New links plus my digital update for Apr 3, 2012
Will I someday color SiP, Echo and Rachel Rising? What's it like to work with DC? Why I am writing the How To Draw series? This is the Q&A in my recent chat with Tim at Comic Book Resources Robot 6.
Rachel Rising: The Shadow Of Death, made Hot Pick Of The Week at Inveterate Media Junkies, who called the book "a triumph".
A wonderful review of Echo: The Complete Edition, at Comic Book Nerds Are Hot (why yes… yes they are.).
On Twitter today: "
That's why I put my books on comiXology, and I'm very pleased with the results. You can find my books in all the good comic shops, but there are shops that don't carry my books. For readers in that situation, you now have digital options to stay up to date. I'm sure you're already using the convenience of ordering print through any of the good retailers with online sites. Now, you can also be a part of same day release excitement and read the new issues of Rachel Rising the day they come out. You don't have to avoid spoilers on the Wednesday forums anymore!
What I'm hearing more and more is, fans read it first online, then buy the print to keep and cherish. If that's how you do it, my brick and mortar partners and I like that system just fine. Whatever gets you through the day with a smile on your face. I think we're all realizing pretty quickly that nothing replaces a book in your hands. It's like the difference between a picture of lunch vs a real lunch.
In the world of art, gorgeous images can be enjoyed many ways and it's all good. In the world of books, there's nothing like the real thing. Because comics live in both worlds—which has always been our strength— we've had the most questions entering the digital age, but we're finding our way and I have to say it's kind of fun. My publisher anxiety of the last couple of years is easing as it becomes more evident that the two worlds we live in (images & books) are beginning to sort it out and will find a way to coexist. Every digital customer I've talked to still buys books at their favorite shop. And if your shop doesn't carry it, or you're not near a shop, or you live in a country where the delays and costs are bad… well, you're not stranded anymore. You can be part of the comic book news as it happens via digital, and comfortably build that collection of gorgeous, real books for your library.
Finally, our industry has become the epitome of Spock: the unusual love child of two worlds producing a brilliant and ultra-modern medium—comics in the 21st century.
Unless of course, I'm wrong. In which case I'm going back to bar bands.

Rachel & Echo links around the web today…
Some great articles and reviews around the web today on Rachel Rising, and Echo's comiXology debut.
Kotaku.com included Rachel Rising #6 in a short list of "Six Comics That Will Make You Rethink Your Place In The World".
I spill the beans on everything in this new interview at Newsarama.
Doc Curmudgeon at WizardWorld curbs his wrath when it comes to Rachel Rising. This review made me laugh. Funny guy.
Page 45 looks at Rachel Rising #1 through the eyes of a true scholar.
Horror Haven Reviews endorses Rachel Rising on comiXology. Note: since the article came out a few days ago, the release date of Rachel's first TPB, titled The Shadow Of Death, has been delayed a couple of weeks. This trade is already on my webstore though, if you'd like to get a print copy now, today, immediately.
Broken Frontier notes Echo's digital debut with some very nice words from comiXology CEO and co-founder David Steinberger. Thank you, David.
And, just in case you missed it, The AfterEllen.com Huddle included a memorable scene from Strangers In Paradise in its short list of Best Kisses. The amazing thing is, Francine and Katchoo's lip-lock was the only one not from a movie. Forgive me for being 12 years old but, that's awesome!
These are just the ones I have seen personally. If you find more, please let me know and I will repost. Articles, reviews and word of mouth are all the advertising I have. My work rises or falls on the power of the people to pass it on. It's been a great ride so far and I'm still here, working, because of you. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for my career. Every time I sit down to make a new book I feel the responsibility to do my best work ever for you. With your support and a steady supply of Diet Coke, I will keep trying!
comiXology debuts ECHO today, NOW!
Today is a big day—today Echo debuts at comiXology!
Now you can read Echo's saga on your 2-way wrist radio or whatever digital device you choose. This week comiXology is releasing issues 1-15, plus the first three TPB collections. Issue one is just .99 cents. The remaining issues are $1.99 each. The first TPB, Moon Lake is just $6.99 and also comes with bonus material: aka sketches and designs. These prices are so low for one reason: we want you to read the series! Go, enjoy!
The rest of the series, issues 16-30, and the final 3 TPBs, will be released next week!

ECHO On ComiXology Wednesday!
Sci-fi fans, gird your loins! Echo will make its digital debut this Wednesday 28th with issues 1-15 and the first three trade paperbacks. The rest of the series, issues 16-30 and the final three trade paperbacks, will hit next Wednesday April 4. This is a correction to my earlier update that the entire series would release the same day.
Echo is the story of a normal woman encountering a highly abnormal problem… a liquid metal armor harboring the power of an atomic weapon. Naturally, the makers of said armor want it back. What follows is a deadly chase across the western desert and a hard look at the darker side of man and science.
Echo won the Harvey Award for Best New Series in 2009.
Trust me, you need to read Echo before you date or marry any nuclear scientists, secret U.S. weapons contractors, Chinese double agents or Ford mechanics. You'll thank me later.
Two interesting things to note about about Echo… a couple of well-known ladies from Strangers In Paradise appear in the story. Yes, it's all one Terryverse.
The other interesting is: in the story, a web hack makes a website that gets him killed. The URL for that website was given in the story and it's a real URL. You can go there and see what happened to it. Only one or two readers every figured that out and emailed me about it. Will you be number 3?
I love hiding things like this in my posts. I suspect only 3 people read my blog, I like giving you a million dollars each as a thank you. Sadly, I don't have the money, so I'll give you priceless info instead. I used to hide the same thing in the lettercol and legal indicia of my early books. I called it the Little Typy Stuff. I hid clues and answers to the story in there for true fans who were reading every word of the book. Once the word got out about The Little Typy Stuff, I sort of slowed down on it. But this blog is a great place to hide a secret. If I type the answers to life, the universe and everything, only you and I would know. And I trust you. Anyway…

SiP Back Issues Found!
Are you trying to collect a complete run of Strangers in Paradise? If so, this may help: Just got off the phone with my friend T.J. who owns and runs my local comics shop, Third Planet, here in Houston. He recently acquired an almost complete collection of SiP single issues, (over 100). Many issues of SiP were underprinted and sold out immediately, making it very difficult for people to find them later. You may be on the prowl for one of more yourself. If so, give T.J. a buzz at the Third Planet Facebook page and he'll be happy to help you.
You may have read in interviews with me that I got into comics because in 1992 I walked into a comic shop and discovered the self-publishing movement. Third Planet is the store I walked into. So T.J. and I go way back and he's always had a fantastic shop. It's like Santa's workshop in there, with all the books, sci-fi, golden age, all the American and Japanese toys and models and figures, cards, you name it. If you're ever in Houston, a visit to Third Planet is highly recommended.
Rachel Rising 7 Update
April 18. That's the day Rachel Rising 7 will be in stores all over the country, and online for same day release at ComiXology.com
You've seen this image for a few months. It is the cover to #7.
