Chick-Fil A and Transplants

Another great response to my request for emails about your first time ever tasting a Chick-Fil A sandwich.

From "Lisa"

We've eaten so many times over the years that we can't remember our first chick fil a experience. However, my 16 year old son had a bone marrow transplant last November. For infection safety reasons he was placed on a restricted diet that allowed no restaurant food or drink.  The hardest part of that diet was not being able to have chick fil a. The first place we went when the restriction was lifted was to chick fil a. It never tasted so   >>>>>   Read Entire Post

Christmas Before Halloween

I recently spent some time with a friend, "Tracy." She is a wonderful human being. But times are tough and she is beginning to lose her sense of hope.

The sputtering economy has almost, but not quite yet, crushed her business. Her income is a fraction of what it was just five years ago. As a result of the financial stress, she is working more. Her marriage is suffering from the strain of too much work, too little money, and no meaningful time just to be together. Tracy's mother is ill and needing full-time care. Her kids are about to become teenagers, and Tracy can't figure out the best way to help them navigate the toxic culture we've created for adolescents where sex reigns and violence is just the norm. Very simply, Tracy is suffering from a hope deficiency.

As the elections roll around, a lot of folks will look to the returns for hope. Perhaps some will come, perhaps not. But I do know this: Christians are   >>>>>   Read Entire Post

Rich Towards God

In the matter of

God's goodness

we have got to be

irrational.

This is the way it is

with love, for instance,

and with any other

deep down, visceral persuasion.

We go beyond reason,

we do not trust

appearances.

All surface indications

to the contrary

we have got to believe that

God is good,

unfailingly good to us.

Even in the thick

of troubles,

in moments of

dire tragedy,

calamity,

disaster,

God is being good.

This is illogical,

it is nonsense

but it is true.

His goodness

is never

one whit diminished,

obscured

or blunted.

Workplace Violence

Hard to believe that, three years, later the government is denying Ft Hood victims Purple Hearts by classifying Nidal Hassan's attack as "workplace violence" rather than terrorism. Perhaps he was just motivated by a video   >>>>>   Read Entire Post

First Time Ever

I recently asked listeners like you about the first time you tasted a Chick-Fil-A sandwich. In talking with my friend, Crazy Wayne, who is celebrating his 40th year with Chick-Fil-A, we got to remembering the first time we ate that famous tasty sandwich.

For me, it was through my girlfriend. She grew up eating at the Chick-Fil-A in the mall. My town had none. She saw a new standalone Chick-Fil-A on North Druid Hills Road here in Atlanta. In fact, it was the first standalone location they ever opened. We went together and she was right. It was great!

And not long after, I asked her to marry me.

Your responses have been great. I'll share some of my favorites over the next few weeks. Here is the first - from C.

Back in the mid nineteen sixties, we, (Woolworth), had a rather successful store and Coffee Shop in the Greenbriar Mall.  The coffee   >>>>>   Read Entire Post

The Heart's True Home

I've been having fun recently doing one-on-one coaching in the area of personal development and faith. Never done something quite like this before so my friend and I are making it up as we go. And it's been a pleasant surprise how much we are both benefitting from the journey and conversations.

We have landed on the process of reading a portion of a book each week, and then using that as a springboard for growth-producing conversation. And re-reading the best book on prayer I have ever come across has been a real delight. Forgotten just how powerful Richard Foster's book, Prayer: Finding the Heart's True Home, is.

Foster's a Quaker with a passion for prayer, and his book introduces you to 21 kinds of prayer. From simple prayer to the prayer of examen to healing prayer to the prayer of suffering. Really rich stuff. Highly recommend it as a refresher to your prayer life or paddle shock therapy if   >>>>>   Read Entire Post

4 Signs

Just completed reading the final version and newly released 4 Signs of a Dynamic Catholic, by Matthew Kelly. We shipped a free copy of this to all our Ambassadors at the Dynamic Catholic Institute, and it will soon be available at Amazon and other places.

Matthew and I partner at the Dynamic Catholic Institute, and this is his first major faith book in a decade.

The book is fantastic. Four things make the difference between highly engaged Catholics (and believers of all persuasions) and disengaged ones. Matthew's book is brilliantly simple and practical. Can't wait to begin giving it to friends to help them grow forward too by adopting the 4 signs. Good   >>>>>   Read Entire Post
