"Vessel: Terra Santa Pulp"
Acri, 1084. Un ragazzo fiammingo affamato viene colto in fragrante in atti di cannibalismo. Il ricco mercante inglese Driskoll Cook lo punirà in modo esemplare, scatenando contro di lui i suoi feroci cani mastiff, cambiando per sempre la vita del ragazzo, e anche il proprio destino. Antiochia, 1098. Le truppe crociate assediano la città. Yaghisiyan, l’Emiro selgiuchide osserva dalle mura alcuni cristiani scavare nel cimitero, a fianco dell’accampamento, per disseppellire i corpi dei compagni, arrostirne pezzi e divorarli. Manda degli emissari a Goffredo di Buglione, a capo delle truppe crociate, per protestare contro l’antropofagia diffusa tra gli infedeli. Nasce la leggenda dei Tafur, i diavoli viventi, i superstiti della legione degli straccioni di Pietro l’Eremita, bande di assassini, stupratori e cannibali che portano l’orrore in Terra Santa, affiancando gli eserciti cristiani. Un fiammingo sfregiato, Vessel, è a capo di una delle bande più efferate di questi criminali. In attesa di potersi vendicare di Cook, parteciperà alla presa di Gerusalemme del 1099, al massacro delle truppe egiziane e saracene e di gran parte della popolazione. Ma il giorno della vendetta nei confronti di Cook e dei suoi cani da sangue si avvicina; un'efferata battaglia nei dintorni di Nablus, dopo la presa della Città Santa, potrà rappresentare la grande occasione per Vessel.

"Vessel: Tafur Armageddon"
I Tafur, i leggendari diavoli viventi, superstiti della legione degli straccioni di Pietro l’Eremita, divisi in bande di assassini, stupratori e cannibali, portano l’orrore in Terra Santa. Un fiammingo sfregiato, Vessel, è a capo di una delle bande più efferate di questi criminali, facilmente riconoscibile per il loro vessillo: la testa di un mastiff a fauci spalancate, su campo rosso. Dopo la presa di Gerusalemme (1099) al fianco dei crociati e la battaglia di Nablus contro l'odiato Cook, Vessel e i suoi uomini, tra i quali il gigante iberico Portanero, l'assassina Chenay armata di roncole, l'ex-frate psicopatico Serafino coi suoi apostoli eretici, il vecchio Tarasios che riesce sempre a ingannare la morte, Bruma, la misteriosa guerriera senza memoria e altri figuri saranno in azione nella Battaglia di Murisvan (1101) e la Presa di Cesarea (1102), e dovranno vedersela col Re Tafur in una storia di vendetta in salsa pulp e soprannaturale. Il Sacro Catino, piatto in cui Gesù aveva consumato l’agnello pasquale durante l’ultima cena, una potentissima reliquia, il vero Santo Graal, recuperato nel Tempio di Erode a Cesarea, cambierà le sorti della vicenda.

La graphic novel 'The Inhabitant of the Lake' scritta da me e Stefano Cardoselli (edita da Independent Legions, anche in italiano) ha appena vinto il Bram Stoker Award! Sono felicissimo, anche e soprattutto di condividere questo strepitoso risultato (vista la concorrenza super-top) con un altro autore/artista italiano, e caro amico, come Stefano.
Dedico personalmente questo premio (il mio terzo Bram Stoker Award) a tutti i miei lettori, e ringrazio Ramsey Campbell per averci consentito di adattare a fumetti il suo celebre racconto 'The Inhabitant of the Lake'.
