Released today, by Independent Legions, the graphic novel KRAKEN INFERNO - The Last Hunt (124 pages, full color), written by me and Stefano Cardoselli (who also illustrated it). The paperback edition is for sale at Amazon.

Synopsis: In a world ravaged by man’s bottomless greed, the high seas roll with oil rigs dredging the last of nature’s most remote resources, and the oceans bleed with tar and pollution. Their peaceful lives disturbed by man’s plunder, the mighty kraken rise from the depths to defend their homes and attack the oil ships—swallowing filth and spreading carnage. But the captain of the kraken-fighting ship, Inferno, is not the kind of man to fear this ocean monster. In fact, he might not even fear death at all—because once a man has lost the thing he once lived for, there is nothing left in him but heartbreak… and the deepest, coldest need for revenge. In this tale of lost love, man’s destructive nature meets nature’s most destructive force. Dall'Introduzione di Ramsey Campbell: Ho scritto “L'abitatore del lago” nel 1962, quando avevo sedici anni. È stato il mio primo tentativo di creare una divinità lovecraftiana, vale a dire, un'entità aliena scambiata per un dio dai suoi adoratori umani. È diventato un elemento centrale del mito di Brichester, il mio piccolo contributo alla tradizione di Lovecraft. Inizialmente questa divinità è nata col nome di Glaaki, ma una rivelazione successiva ha chiarito che l'ortografia corretta è Gla'aki, invano semplificata dall'editore Vittoriano Percy Smallbeam per renderla più semplice per il linguaggio umano. In quasi sessant'anni l'influenza di Gla'aki nel mondo è cresciuta ben oltre quanto avessi potuto immaginare da  adolescente. Sono nati profili Facebook e Twitter col suo nome, ha ispirato canzoni e giochi dedicati, ed è stato raffigurato da pittori e scultori. Un'intera antologia, The Children of Gla'aki, è stata realizzata come omaggio a questa creatura, e tutto questo mi ha commosso e onorato. Di recente ho ridato vita a Gla'aki in un romanzo (L'ultima Rivelazione di Gla'aki) cercando di rendergli giustizia, quello che non avevo potuto fare da adolescente. Ora gli eccellenti Alessandro Manzetti e Stefano Cardoselli hanno adattato il mio racconto in una graphic novel, impreziosita dalle splendide illustrazioni espressioniste di quest'ultimo, ispirandomi di nuovo.
Non puoi mettere da parte un buon mostro.
