Officially launched at a delivery event at the end of last month, deliveries of the Cybertruck began last week and it is now appearing in Tesla showrooms--see piece in Dezeen. Thanks to Stephen Hendrickson for the heads-up.

Thank you Please Come Again

"Growing up in Mississippi, the only place Kate Medley could get Indian food was from a BP station...

"The owner of the station was Indian, and every morning he’d arrive with Tupperware containers filled with the food his wife had made that morning. If you knew, you knew to ask what they were serving that day. They had a microwave, they had some tables. You could heat it up and eat it there or you could take it on your way...

"Grown now and living in Durham, North Carolina, Medley is a photojournalist. But she still thinks about gas stations. Her book Thank You, Please Come Again explores the complexities of the independent gas stations throughout the American South. The project took her 10 years and covers 11 states.

"In the book’s introduction, Medley writes, “Our politics may be polarized, our economics stratified, our neighborhoods segregated, and our rhetoric strained, but still nearly everyone regularly passes through these same commercial spaces. We fill up the tank. We relieve our bladders. We grab a cold one on the way home from work. We take advantage of Friday night’s ‘prime rib special.’ We may rub elbows as we pass the ketchup. In an increasingly atomized world of mediated interactions, we have fewer and fewer communal spaces that unite us.”from lyz's substack essay/review of Kate Medley's book. Thanks to Matt Dallet for the heads-up.

1950 Dodge Convertible; 1952 Dodge half-ton.

  .

From Alex Emond: "Not sure what the old convertible is. (AL: 1950 Dodge?) Maybe not a good idea to leave a convertible outside, roofless, for decades. Just a local junkyard, like a private cemetery...
"Here's a '52 Dodge pickup with a story to tell. Judging by the wheels on this truck , I don't think it belongs to this Mr. Schnitzler any more . I wonder if the W. stands for "Weiner". Sorry."

Suzuki Sidekick Sport

From Markus Anstadt: "This version was only produced between 1996-1999. It had a 1.8 liter, 120hp powerplant. They were known as the Vitara or Escudo in the rest of the world. GM/Suzuki collaborated on a model known as the Tracker in North America."AL: we posted these Suzuki COE pickups for sale a while ago. And how about the Citroën Suzuki Samurai?

1957 Fargo; 1949 Ford F-1. Saskatchewan

From Alex Emond: "A couple more pick me ups from that mystery plot near Kyle, Saskatchewan. Both trucks are worthy of reincarnation. I didn't take many shots because I was, technically, trespassing. No owners around. I did a quick walkaround and left. Handsome trucks, for sure.

FC Jeep. Montauk, NY.

From Jonathan Welsh: "Jeep's Forward Control trucks of 1956 through 1965 came in short-wheelbase FC-150 and longer FC-170 versions. All models were 4-wheel drive. While initial sales were promising, demand slowed and the company sold only about 30,000 of the FCs over the model's nine- year run. This one makes an eye-catching rolling advertisement."

AL we caught a couple of these FC Jeeps  in Colorado Springs a while back.

Land Rover Defender, Deer Isle

Caught the euro-Land Rover on a sharp November day on Deer Isle, Maine. Here are a couple Maine Land Rover stories we posted a while back. TDI is diesel, right? The "Defender" has always sounded a little road-ragey to me.

...then drove home, crossing Eggemoggin Reach on the D.I. Bridge. Bad hair day.

International R-130

Alex Emond caught the truck down a back lane in Lafleche, Saskatchewan. We posted a tuned-up R-120 he shot a few miles away in Shaunavon, Sask. AL caught this R-110, one of our favourite trucks, in Colorado Springs. Then there was the R-100 in Pennsylvania, the Maine R-110; an R-130 back in Saskatchewan; and R-210 in Maine and an R-150 in New Hampshire.

1951 Chevrolet Styleline sedan (la Vielle Voiture)

From Alex Emond: "Back lane, Lafleche Saskatchewan. The white graffiti is all French--Fransaskois. "Vieille vouture" .. no kidding. Like homemade tattoos on top of killer patina. There was some extra loud rock music emanating from the back of that building . Anybody who's into old iron and early morning rock is all right with me."

And then (thanks to Alex for the heads-up) there's ICON's '52 Chevrolet Styleline coupe..
