1965 Chrysler 300, Denver.

Markus Anstadt spotted the car in Denver. One of these was on the block at BaT a while back. Maybe our favorite Chrysler is a 1966 Newport we saw in Harvard Square. Another: the 1975 Newport Custom we saw just down Mass Ave, halfway to Central Sq.

c.2000 Jeep Cherokee. Cambridge.

We posted a passel of Cherokees from Charlotte, NC –and another Cherokee of this era, also in Cambridge.. Boxiness and modesty appeal, after the unrelieved sameness of contemporary SUV's.

Chevrolet Astro, Cambridge

Always liked Chevrolet's first take on the minivan. GM produced them from 1985-2005. They weren't even that mini, but smaller and more nimble than the standard cargo van of the era. Their boxiness made them easier to live in, or out of, if you were inclined to #vanlife, which many paddlers and mountain people were when I was living in the Canadian Rockies. Or, as we knew them, the Rockies.

Kincaid, Saskatchewan

From Alex Emond: "Here's a mid-Fifties Dodge with a wooden flatbed, and a '50 Chevy grainer.  The Dodge is concealing a Ford F-100. This bunch was in Kincaid, Saskatchewan."

Where the Buffalo Roam

From Alex Emond: "The truck was just outside Ponteix, Saskatchewan in a yard belonging to Red Coat Trail Bison. Handsome machine that needs some help to be roadworthy, but good for the soul, just to admire.
"Speaking of bison, or, as I prefer,"buffalo"–I went for a long hike down in the Grasslands National Park a few days ago.  It felt like October, and the lyrics from "Home On the Range" were playing out before me. What a magical place."

2016 Scion FR-S & the Japanese Drift

The car lives in Brooklin, Maine. Real-wheel drive. Nimble. Fun. You can hear it coming. Did you see our piece on Japanese Drift cars–like the Toyota AE86–a couple weeks ago?

Dauphines, in Amsterdam and Saskatchewan

From Alex Emond, in southern Saskatchewan: "Here is a little car perhaps more suited to the streets of Paris than a backyard in Lafleche, Saskatchewan. A tiny (845c.c.) engine smaller than most Harley-Davidsons. Mets-en qu'j'ai aimé ça!"AL: These cars were wildly popular in Montreal. And on the Law of Dreams book tour in Europe, we were taken out to dinner at Dauphine, a restaurant in an ex-Renault dealership in Amsterdam. Speaking of tiny cars, my piece on Richard Scarry's classic children's book, Cars and Trucks and Things that Go is in The New York Times Book Review this week.
