A Real Fish Story

Now for a real fish story. One that did not get away.

I put a couple pictures on my last blog post that might have been a bit misleading. I put a picture of my grandpa and me with a bunch of fish. He caught the bigger two. Naturally. And I had a picture of my mom and one of my aunts with a bunch of fish. Needless to say, I have a little ‘splainin’ to do.

The first time I saw that picture of my mom and aunt with the fish, I thought, “Wow! They caught some nice...

The One that Got Away

There are fish stories and then there are fish stories. Inevitably, the best ones are about the one that got away.

I like a good fish story as much as the next person. But this one is not quite like the rest. It is about the one that got away, but not quite in the way you might think. For it is not about fish at all. (Despite the pictures.)

Writing is one of those crazy endeavors. You need to be crazy to do it. Either that or you have so many words in you tha...

Stupid Stuff

Sometimes I write stupid stuff. And then I post it.

Okay, truth be told, I usually post the stupid stuff. (Some of my friends tell me that all my stuff is stupid. But with friends like that…) Then again, who knows if it is stupid unless you post it. Well okay, I usually know. But I post it anyway.

So in reality, I guess that I am not that bright.

Truth be told, I try to write stuff to make people think or at least muse a bit. I try to write stuff that is pertinent to my life, albeit usually...

Plagiarism

I hope God does not mind, but I do not always give my source when I quote the Bible. It is not that I am choosing to do what is expedient. It is that I want to speak truth into people’s lives without getting into too much trouble.

Okay. So it is not necessarily true that I do not want to get into trouble for my faith. The thing is that I just want to speak truth into people’s lives, and some people just do not want to accept those truths when they know the source. For instance, one of my son...

Right or Expedient?

There used to be a saying that said you always choose what is right over what is expedient. Now, it seems like the saying has gone the other way and everybody is choosing what is expedient while not even considering what is right.

I know that you cannot say everybody or always. At least not without some repercussions. After all, there are no absolutes. (The last sentence is not an exception, just a paradox.) But it sure seems that people are choosing to do what is expedient rather than what...

No Official Dress Up Days

Christmas Sweater licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0

There is no official dress up day when going back to work or school in the new year, but it seems that the first days (or maybe even the first month) back are always, “Wear the Clothes You Got for Christmas” days.

I am not sure if it is as prominent or at least as noticeable these days as it used to be, but it seems that everybody likes to wear any clothes they got for Christmas on the first day back from New Year’s Day. Or maybe that is just me....

Privilege

I saw this video about privilege a couple times that made me think a bit about life. Which is what it was meant to do. (Regardless of what comments were made.)

If you have not seen the video, you ought to. Just for a little perspective. Here is a link to the video so you can check it out. I’ll wait. But here is a little description of the video in case you do not want to watch it yourself now.

There is a race for a one-hundred dollar bill. I am not sure of the distance of the race, but the o...

Liking Other Writers [1]

Botón Me gusta by Enoc vt

I like it when other writers comment on my blog or Facebook page or retweet my Twitter posts. It gives some validation that maybe I can write. Not that validation is necessary, but it is always nice when somebody other than a friend or relative says that maybe, just maybe, I can write.

I love that my friends and family like my writing. Or at least say they do. I know not all of them are my Facebook fans or Twitter followers, but I do not e...

Smoke Detector Battery Replacement Time

I wonder why it is that the smoke detector battery low indicator (a harsh beep about every thirty seconds or so) always goes off in the middle of the night. Either right after you are settled in and are in that perfect REM state or a couple hours before you get that right amount of sleep.

We usually change out the batteries in our smoke detectors each year. If we remember, right around the time we go off daylight savings time. But if not, right after that annoying battery low indicator tells...

I Still Have Not Seen It

Star Wars: The Last Jedi
The poster art copyright is believed to belong to the distributor of the film, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the publisher, Lucasfilm, or the graphic artist.

As of the moment of this writing, I have not seen it yet. But by the time I post it, I will have. Hopefully. Until then, I will just go around with my fingers in my ears saying, “La, la, la. I can’t hear you.”

There are always must see movies that I have not seen yet. This year, it just happens to be ano...
