The Other Side of Eve – My anticipation to present it to the public in early 2015 is near explosive.
Thanks to an awesome sidekick and months of hard work The Other Side of Eve has not only been copy edited, but proof read, structured, spell checked, polished and buffed into the novel I set out to create.
My anticipation to present it to the public in early 2015 is near explosive.
Over Xmas holidays I’ll finish off the last of the chapter illustrations. So far 60+ have been created an I look forward to the next 20.
I feel I have created the characters to look exactly what I envisioned, combining silhouetted chapter illustrations and descriptions, and I hope to have left enough room for the reader to create there own interpretation.
Stay tuned for Pre-Launch news, and please signup to be informed of the official launch date in 2015.
This book has been crafted so it can be cherished and loved from the first page to the last.
Stay tuned.
Paul Ikin.

Testing…testing…v.1 .v.2 v.89098

I've been using the online previewers (iBooks, Calibre, ADE, ect) to view my ePub and to help format it. But it came to my attention, "This is crazy!" There are so many variables between them and not one looked close to another. So I went out and bought an iPad and a Kindle Paperwhite to see exactly what my ePub and mobi files would look like on the devices.
Wowwwy! So awesome. I wish I had bought them sooner.
The Book Proofer app through Apple is amazing! And lets me sync my iPad with changes appearing after a few second refresh.
Calibre has done a great job of transmuting ^_^ the epub to mobi and it too looks great.
Although It took me a few days to refine, some reason I had white pages popping up (which did not show up in the previewers), alignment issues and a few images were wack, but I fixed them and so far looking great on both.
Got my cover woking full screen on iPad, chapter images are nice and no too big in size, TOC working inline and on device. I feel there 70% ready, 30 or so illustrations to go and refinements but all is good.
I'm glad I spent all these months figuring out ePubs, it's good skill to know, (saved a few $)
Now I've worked the main formatting out I'll be setting up a pre-order soon through Smashwords I think.., I'll let you know more once it's done. I still have a few questions to ask about that one…this is one long road, but a good one.?

August Update – Website, Posters and Proof Reading
Hello again.
It’s been a busy month with plenty of illustration work flooding in. This is great, although I work extra long hours, but the money I earn will give me time to format the book properly for both print and digital.
As you may have guessed I had to extend the launch date…but I look forward to starting the new year with a Hardback, paperback and ebook!
You may have noticed the website has had a little makeover (v2.0) and I’m preparing for the next instalment with a new book trailer.
Well I better get back to it. Today I’m working on formatting the ebook for Kindle.
All the best,
Paul.

Building a Fantasy Map
As an illustrator I thought building a fantasy map would be fairly easy…however it’s not. Not at all ^_^
There is a lot to consider and fitting it all on one, or three pages is quite a task. I designed mine on paper first, a huge A1 sheet, it was still too small, so I then used 2 and stuck them on my bedroom wall. After a lot of work designing the shape, perspective, weight and style of the land, I could then start making the puzzle.
Mare-Marie is built up in places, poisoned and swampy, desert and desolate in others. I wouldn’t like to get lost there.
The next stage was to recreate the paper verision in illustrator, I chose illustrator for it’s vector properties. The style is quite “Gamey” but it’s a young adult book and I feel it will work.
I have placed my map over 3 a4 size pages. On an ereader it will be on three pages and a link available to a high rez map placed on this site.
I’ll also look forward to the print/poster version. Which will be in full colour and available to download.
Below is the Black and White Kindle Ereader version. I’ve printed it out so I can have a good look at it. So far the North is full (packed full of places, forests, woods, rivers, deserts) and as we go further south the more baron and sandy the territory becomes. As in the novel.
Now lets colour Mare-Marie

I've been so busy Illustrating other peoples books that I'm afraid I'll have to push back the due date for The Other Side of Eve. Hopefully not too long. It's had one sweep through by a professional editor and I'm going to get it proof read+edit one more time over the next month. I wan't it to be just right, not just write. Stay tuned.?

Editing Complete…Nearly!
Happy to announce The Other Side of Eve has been edited! (Thanks to Melissa-Jane at M.J. Editing)
Now the single chapters have been packaged up as a complete manuscript and put through for another overall yet scrutinising read through.
Once done I’ll be able to start formatting the manuscript for Print on Demand (Ingram Spark) and ebook (epub and mobi).
So far Amazon, Goodreads, Thorpe-Bowker and Smashwords have approved my account status/accounts as an author and I can publish when ready.
Whats next? I have the map to finish, 20 or so chapter illustrations and of course the formatting.
So still a bit of work to go. (No to mention promotion…) But so very happy to have come this far.
Five years in the making! One year of editing. 600 pages of love, anxiety, adventure, fantasy and tears!
Till next time.
