NANOWRIMO

It’s not for the feint hearted.

I’ve won three out of four years.

It was hard.

It was easy.

It was terrifying.

At it’s best, it’s a joyride. It’s flying across uncharted territory on dragon wings.. and at it’s worst, it’s an Ogre. A creature who rises out of the very walls, throwing boulders at my carefully created outline, tearing down the walls I created word by word.

And yet I finished.

But it wasn’t easy. Every year there is this point where nothing gels. Where I can’t figure out where my plot dropped off to and .. worse. I hate all my characters.  Those are the days when I have to re-read my story. When I have to create stuff out of nowhere.Sometimes it takes re-reading what I wrote. Sometimes, just talking it out.. but it always happens.

My story appears.Magic happens.

My story takes off on it’s own. I’ll truly have no clue what my characters were going to do or even why they did what they did.

So, if your thinking this task is impossible, or to terrifying a commitment to consider.. you might be right.

But, what if…

What if in the dreariest part of winter, you decided to clear off a month to do something you love.

One single month.

A month where you spend time doing something for yourself. One month writing the story you’ve kept at the back of your mind. One month thinking outside of the box. One month thinking of yourself.

Consider NANOWRIMO.

One month,

One person committed to something bigger than themselves.

One novel that craves to be set free.

One word at time.

What do you have to lose?

Interview with Terri Rochenski

503a8-sots2btour2bbutton2b3

I read a sample chapter of Terri’s first book several years ago and it stayed with me. The characterization.. the flow of words, seldom do books remain in our heads for years and yet.. Terri’s did. I was very excited to find out that Secret of Souls is now out.. I was even more excited when Terri agreed to be interviewed!

~ ~

Terri, they say every book has a story and that every story has a meaning. Can you tell me was there special meanings (to you) behind Secret of Souls?

The Pool of Souls series came into existence due to a rough patch I experienced in my 20s. I was involved in a cult-like church, and had NO CLUE I was being manipulated and used by those ‘above’ me. Hyla’s story began as a whisper when I escaped, and developed over the next half-dozen years.

Does any particular character in this book draw you more than others? If so.. why?

Jadon. While he isn’t the love interest of our heroine, his character always clattered for attention whenever I would sit down to write. Although arrogant and confident, Jadon, an Elite Soldier of King Eadread Eotherian, is a likeable young man, one with an endearing flaw.

Those who aren’t familiar with your work, can you tell me what your preferred medium is? Do you find you write primarily in paranormal, contemporary or are you a solid history buff?

I have two loves – total opposites – which makes it a smidge tougher to market myself. Fantasy, like LotR, and historical romance, like Pride & Prejudice. My mind has been toying with the idea of merging them. Perhaps THAT is the answer to my muse’s happiness.

Now to some practical questions. Old fashioned or new fangled. You know what I mean. When you write are you a pen and paper kind of gal, or as Laptop only person?

I’m definitely an old fashioned kind of gal. I like to write scenes down on paper, that way when I enter them into the computer, they get a 1st round of edits. Also, using a pen keeps me from hitting ‘backspace’ every other word.

Last question and I have to ask it, you know I do. Which do you prefer? Dragons or Bunnies?

LOL! If it’s Falkor of The NeverEnding Story, then by all means … dragons. Bunnies? As long as they STAY OUT OF MY GARDEN!!!!! they’re alright.

Thank you so much for stopping by Terri. I enjoyed your interview! If you want to know more about Terri and Secret of Souls.. keep reading!

Escape.

That should be Hyla’s first thought as her people are chained and imprisoned for no imaginable reason.

Instead, Hyla finds herself traveling through a land void of Natives, with human soldiers pillaging in desperate pursuit of her, and in search of the mystical Pool of Souls—home to the one man who can save her people.

Or so she believes.

Led by her faith in the deity Fadir, Hyla is met along her journey by Jadon—a human male and fierce King’s warrior, and his childhood best friend Conlin—one of the few Natives aware of his Fadir-given Talents.

Protected by Jadon, guided by Conlin, and with an unfailing belief in the purpose of her pilgrimage, Hyla carries on.

Like her, though, another searches for the Pool, and should he gain access first, everyone she loves, and everything she knows, could be lost.

Forever.

An Inteview with Michelle Ziegler

michelle ziegler

They say every book has a story and that every story has a meaning. Can you tell me was there special meanings (to you) behind Winter’s Sweet Kiss?

-All my stories have a small bit of me in them, but my first story might have the most.  Before I got my happily ever after I was the girl on the date at Hooters or having the pervert across the table from me.  If I hadn’t lived this story, there is no way I would have been able to come up with it.  I suppose it was a reminder of the crap you have to get through in order to find the really great.  Oh.  One last thing.  There is a scene where I remember my pet chicken.  I guess she gets to live on through my writing.

Tell me a little about your story, Falling For You. How did you come up with your ideas for it?

-I have no idea.  A very good friend of mine was a love addict I suppose.  She went through a lot of very, very, very bad dates with people from a real online dating site.  She inspired me to show the fun side of the world’s new way of dating.  The rest of the story seemed to write itself.

Does any particular character in this book that you more than others? If so.. why?

-Abby.  She’s the best friend I wish I still had these days.  Life gets busy and people grow up.  Everyone wants someone who is there for them no matter what.  Sometimes you need someone to remove the ice-cream, or Cheeto, from your hands-or hair, such as Darci’s case.

Those who aren’t familiar with your work, can you tell me what your preferred medium is? Do you find you write primarily in paranormal, contemporary or are you a solid history buff?

-My heart is solidly placed with paranormal writing, but I’ve only been published in contemporary romance as of today.  Don’t worry though.  I have a paranormal short coming out in Oct.

Now to some practical questions. Old fashioned or new fangled. You know what I mean. When you write are you a pen and paper kind of gal, or as Laptop only person?

-  POST IT NOTES.  I love sticky notes.  I will write on whatever is in front of me.  I find working through a problem area of a story to do better on paper.  Of course though,  I love my Surface tablet for my primary writing tool.

They say asking an Author what her favorite book is, is like asking the ocean to stop moving. So that being said, do you have anything in mind? What is one of your favorite books? Why do you love it so much?

-Anne of Green Gables.  I love the bits of romance and the peek at history.  I guess I loved to step into Anne’s world.  She was that little girl I could relate too.  For whatever reason, it’s one of the few books Iwill read over and over again.

Last question and I have to ask it, you know I do.  Which do you prefer? Dragons or Bunnies?

-Ugh.  The bane of my existence.  Give me a Dragon any day! We have a huge bunny infestation around here.  Lend me yours?  My poor plants aren’t fairing well.

Thank you so much for that fun and interesting interview Michelle.
