#Medieval Monday | On this Day in 1437

Welcome back to Medieval Monday! Mary’s Tavern is open, my friends!
Years ago, I purchased this wonderful gem of a book from the Renaissance Magazine. As a lover of historical events, I’ve been able to learn a great deal on a particular day from the time-period beginning with the Vikings to the Renaissance. In addition, there’s a Dictionary of Medieval Terms in the back. I thought it would be fun to explore “On this Day…” and look forward to sharing more in my Medieval Monday posts.
On this ...

Friday Feast | An Unwritten Love Story

Welcome to Friday Feast in the Tavern!
There’s a special story—an unwritten love story I haven’t told. It’s not a fictional tale but one I hold dear to my heart. My own. Sunday marks my 40th wedding anniversary and I’m—we are wondering where the years went. There are loads of memories to treasure. Yet there are a few bad ones sprinkled within the goodness. Those trying and difficult times only made us stronger—added depth to our relationship. I’m a firm believer in never taking anything for gr...

Welcome to Medieval Monday and the month of February!

Friday Feast | Book Clubs and Food

Welcome to Friday Feast in the Tavern! Let’s chat about book clubs. I’ve been attending a monthly book club for 13 years. A thread of conversation began one afternoon (April 2010) between me and a friend at Borders Books. Since I worked in the Romance section of the store, she urged me to start a club, specifically one centered around romance books. You should have heard my groan. I had no interest in organizing another event. My plate—my life was full. In truth, it was overflowing. I told her I...

Friday Feast | A Comforting Bowl of Chicken and Smoked Sausage Cassoulet-Style Soup

Welcome to Friday Feast in the Tavern! So glad you could join us! With winter all around us, I tend to think of soups and stews for meals from my slow cooker or dutch oven. Quite simply, they're full of hearty warm goodness! Today's recipe is brand new this season. As always, I'm constantly tweaking and creating my own flavors, so I'm positive the basic cassoulet-style soup is far different than mine. And as you can see by the bottom photo image, I added Parmesan cheese in my soup, though I didn...

Medieval Monday | Angus or Duncan? The Battle Between the Dragon Knights

Welcome to a special Medieval Monday! This year marks the 10-year anniversary of signing my first contract with The Wild Rose Press for Dragon Knight's Sword. And what a remarkable journey I’ve traveled! For each month during this year, I’m going to share some tales about each of my stories—from scenes never making it to the published book, plots gone askew, and one particular story I’m sharing today. A battle between two Dragon Knight brothers: Angus and Duncan MacKay.
When I first began plot...
