It Is
I break my body for you like Jesus never would. I have given my very life force to you and you still want more. I place your steps, each one in your best interests. I clue you in when you have none. I make it easy for you so you’ll never have to know how hard it is. I take the punches. I field the insults thrown because I forget to perform your role.
I am only one person, acting as two. I am one sex, living in a society built for two. Ours is a partnership with one partner, a machine running...

Red Flower
Her beauty is apparent. The petals wrapped about her are only an impression of her true beauty. Her environment will not allow the petals to unfurl, to open in total. She will remain wrapped until dusk when her surroundings are shaded and that feeling of being overly watched and exposed flees with the sun’s final dip.
As night falls and all is dark, she will open, showing her brilliant center. There will be no eyes upon her silken skin, not even those hidden intruders that keep her closed i...

Rainbow’s End
In farm country, determined to find the soy field that this rainbow landed in. I figure at least I will find soy beans.

Pat Robertson and the 700 Member Club
Good evening, Pat. I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know what it’s like tonotbe wrapped in the embrace of senility. More importantly, there comes a time in everyone’s life to quit, or retire. I feel like your poor religious mind retired when I was eight. That was over thirty years ago, as well, my earliest memory of you. I can’t speak for the relevance of your show back then, as I was busy playing, but I don’t even have to watch it now to know. The media gives us all a glimpse of...

Everything
You say it will be better soon
The storm will break and still
It means everything
The things you say to me
I almost believe
I almost decided
Then it rains some more
Storms make up my mind
Every hasty decision rings
It all comes down to this
Not what you say
Not how it’s said
The song of your heart blares
Drowns out the promises
Floods the cellar of my dream
Collars my neck so I won’t fight
Against the wind
Around the issue
This is how it all gets better
And this time not for pretend
I...

Clockworks
The cogs are spinning, one in another
Teeth are breaking, well-worn and aged
A cog misplaced spells malfunction
The machine
Clockworks ticking as we march
A band suggests our tempo
Our feet tap the rhythm
The brass is chipping
The copper is stretching
The iron pocked and rusting
Only the face remains untarnished
No longer safe under glass

The Final Mix…
Anne-Marie (Scottishmomus) sent me a version of this song yesterday and I was amazed once again that my music inspired her lyrics. This is absolutely the final version of this song.
I wrote it when I was seventeen, ca. 1993, and it has evolved so many times since. It’s almost as if it has been looking for a final mix all these years. The music and lyrics needed to match. So there you have it, all the way from Scotland, the missing piece…
Thanks, Anne-Marie!
