Update from Realm Makers 2015
Greetings from St. Louis! The Realm Makers Conference is in full swing. We’re on the second day of the craziness, and we’re all having a really spectacular time. Last night was the annual costume banquet, replete with all sorts of amazing outfits. Today appointments continue and so do the sessions and networking. I’ll have a full report after the festivities are concluded, but let’s just … Continue reading Update from Realm Makers 2015

Pitching a new novel in a few days
I don’t like crowds, but I do love writing conferences. There’s something awesome about being in a room full of people who speak the same language you do. You can talk about your characters, your storylines, your imagined worlds, and they won’t look at you like you’re nuts. You can talk about hearing voices in your head without making people worry. Very early Thursday morning, I’ll … Continue reading Pitching a new novel in a few days

Hanging with Hoochild and TaterTot
My favorite two year old "asked" to go back to the zoo this past weekend. How could I say no? Her buddy, TaterTot, and his mommy tagged along too. Here are some of our adventures from the day!

Gray hair is a proud part of my story
I found my first gray hair when I was in my early 20s. At the time, I was a youth worker, heavily involved in the high school ministry at my church. At first, it was kind of shocking. I mean, I was only 20-something. How could I have gray hair? Not many people believed me. Understandable because I was still awfully young. But I knew where they were. As I…

Shatter Me | Lindsey Stirling and Lzzy Hale

Confessions of an imperfect storyteller
Stories aren't about being perfect anyway.... You can't have a story until something goes wrong. You can't tell a story until the characters screw up somehow. And if your story comes from your own screwed up, upside-down, utterly confused heart, why do you expect it to be perfect in the first place?

The checklist for building the perfect spouse?
I love lists. I didn’t used to, but then my brain got too full. Without lists, I wouldn’t get anything done. Now I make them for everything–tasks for the day, groceries, the process of book production, scenes left in novels, etc. But some folks make lists for things I’d never even though of–like lists for what they want in a spouse. I heard about this phenomenon years ago when an…

Lift Your Head, Weary Sinner | Crowder
All who’ve strayed and walked away, unspeakable things you’ve done Fix your eyes on the mountain, let the past be dead and gone Come all saints and sinners, you can’t outrun God Whatever you’ve done can’t overcome the power of the blood

Why I don’t wear makeup
Anyone out there remember caboodles? They were really popular when I was a kid, and one day a friend came to visit my house with hers. And, of course, it was full of cheap knockoff makeup. I think she bought it at Wal-Mart. I can’t remember. But because little girls were supposed to be into […]
