Taking a breather isn’t the same as giving up

Don't see resting as giving up. Look at it like an investment of time. The time you spend resting yourself and your spirit, doing something that refreshes you, will ultimately produce a better product in the long run.

A manuscript’s wild ride across the pond and back again

About a year and a half ago, I wrote a post about coping with a content/structural edit. It was the first manuscript I’d ever had “for real” edited, and when it came back dripping with red ink, it kind of threw me for a loop. It wasn’t that I expected it to be perfect. I just think some part of my brain thought that after …

7 kittens at Safe Haven Farm

Autumn is my favorite time of year on at Safe Haven Farm. The weather gets cooler, the colors of fall start showing, and it’s more and more common to find pumpkin-flavored stuff everywhere you look. But this autumn, we get a special treat. Our cat, Amelia Pond, had kittens! Seven of them! I’m a cat person, all the way. I love dogs, but cats are …

Can a woman serve the Lord best as a single?

One of the things I love best about being single (and self-employed) is the freedom to be in ministry. No, I’m not in full-time ministry, but I am free to do ministry whenever I want. I can drop everything and go help a friend move. I can move my schedule around so that I can take month and help friends in another country. Whatever God …

When our daily bread doesn’t come daily

All my life, I’ve wanted to be a writer, and I’ve wanted to be able to make a living at it. In February of this year, the Lord made it possible for that dream to come true. I’m still writing books and blog posts, and I’m getting ready to start beating the street for more copywriting clients. One of the writing outlets that I’ve been …

My Story | Big Daddy Weave

If I told you my story You would hear hope that wouldn’t let go If I told you my story You would hear love that never gave up If I told you my story You would hear life but it wasn’t mine

Frozen chili, nosy birds, and sleeping on pine cones

My parents and I went “for real” camping last week. I’d been wanting to go for ages, but it never seemed to work out. So we got the opportunity and jumped in Dad’s old HHR and headed for the mountains with our tents, our camping chairs, the coffee pot, and other odd and assorted camping supplies. It was pretty fantastic. We camped for three nights …

My idea of a vacation

As you’re reading this post, I’m curled up in a sleeping bag in central Colorado, probably freezing my backside off and loving every moment of it. My parents and I are out camping this week with no cell phones, no laptops, no internet, and no indoor plumbing, so I’m writing this post ahead of time. I love camping. Always have. Cooking over a campfire, sleeping …

6 books you’ll find on my writing shelf

I love books. I actually have a problem because I love books so much. My Kindle is getting full, and I need to purchase an eighth bookshelf for my upstairs office/library. It’s kind of awesome and kind of overwhelming and kind of bad all at the same time, but it is what is, I guess. So I thought I might share a few of my …

Lessons I learned from Realm Makers 2015

As a writer, it's easy to bury yourself in your characters.... It's really no different from when a non-writer is too busy or is too much of a people pleaser. You can get lost in the noise, and it's important to take the time to slow down and remember who you are and what God has created you to do.
