Getting settled and late-night walks

The Padre and I made it safely to Manchester and then safely to Carlisle, and The Nomad met us at the station. We had a little hiccup getting The Padre installed in his bed and breakfast, but once we figured that out, it was great. It’s a really super looking little place. We’ll find out…

Train spotting?

It’s cold and raining. Probably going to be normal, and that’s fine. The Padre and I are waiting in a little glassed-in lobby on the train platform. It’s out of the wind and rain. At the moment, we’re trying to figure out whehcih coach we’re on. We’re supposed to be on coach D, but we’re not…

Leaving tomorrow!

Hard to believe it’s almost here, but I leave for the United Kingdom tomorrow morning! Two whole weeks of incredible history, beautiful country, and much-needed best-friend time with the other half of my brain. I snapped this photo of the London Bridge on my last trip back in 2013, and I’m eager to get back…

Introducing the Ginger

The Ginger And now … the life of the party. Seriously, Sarah Beck is one of the funniest people you’ll ever meet, and I’m so incredibly excited that she’s coming with The Padre and me! No stranger to international travel, Sarah has spent a summer in Hungary before, helping with sports and English camps for teens…

The Best No-Bake Cookies Ever

Everybody likes no-bake cookies (or “Bakeless Biscuits” as they’re called across the pond), but nobody has the confidence to make them. They usually turn out wrong, people say. Either they’re too soupy or they’re too dry. Well, I don’t mind saying I make a mean no-bake cookie, and I thought I’d share the recipe in…

Triumphing over tongue-tied terror and general introvertedness

Sunday afternoon, Crosshair Press put on a reading and signing event for my two novels, Nameless and Finding Fireflies, hosted by at a dear friends’ house. It was actually really great! I read from both books, with only minor hiccups and substituted words (nobody seemed to notice when I flubbed up … yay!). We also…

Introducing the Padre

The Padre I’m super excited to have my dad coming along for the great UK Adventure of 2015. Both he and my mom are big into traveling, but usually by car. So this will be the most epic trip he’s ever been on. He’s been to Mexico and Guatemala on mission’s trips with me, but…

Her with the pink boots

Behold! My new hiking boots! They are epic. But they are pink, which is okay. I got them 50% off, and they’re comfortable and waterproof and a name brand. But the pinkness? Yeah, not what I was expecting. But it did make me laugh.

Introducing the Nomad

The Nomad Katie isn’t a nomad in the strictest sense because she has a house she lives in … but she’s only there rarely. The rest of the time she’s traveling around the world taking photographs and interviewing people on camera about ministries and missions opportunities around the world. I’ve known this crazy kid for…
