Today, I’m continuing snippets from an unpublished short story in my superhero series. Background : After Estelle joined their table, Toby, the leader of the Jags gang and the Secret Supers, explained that Gecko’s baby sister is missing. The only clue is the school bus driver’s description of a woman who met the girl. This weekend, we learn a little more about the supers.

“Patrol as Supers in pairs for safety, and when we spot a likely kid, we do a switcheroo to casual gear.” Toby gestured to Gecko and Ice, “You’re one pair; you both know tons of places in the city where kids can hide.” Grinning at Estelle, he said, “We’re a couple; fly around, and slip off to interrogate likely suspects.” “Sure, Toby; tonight?” she arched her eyebrows. “Yep; you and the mare cover west of the connector, and I’ll patrol east with the cat. Don’t dash into trouble; call me before you go visible. Okay?” “Sheesh, I can fry the bullies.” Rolling her eyes at his string of instructions, she voiced a silent complaint to Rockette, “I hate nagging; he’s as bad as Mom.” “Bossy like the cat,” the mare agreed.

Sorry, I skipped last week, partly due to the hurricane, but mostly due to poor internet. October means Halloween and skeletons sprouting from lawns in our neighborhood of Atlanta. Thankfully, the weather is cooler.
I’m running snippets from an unpublished short story in my superhero series. Background : After Estelle joined their table, Toby, the leader of the Jags gang and the Secret Supers, explained that Gecko’s baby sister is missing. The only clue is the school bus driver’s description of a woman who met the girl. This weekend, we learn a little more about the supers. Ice shifted position to face Toby. Brushing a loose strand of platinum blonde hair behind her ear, she said, “I’m in touch with a group that shelters abused women and children. I’ll ask if they’ve seen this girl.” “She’s not abused,” Gecko objected. “Okay, we believe you,” Toby said; “We’ve got to start somewhere.” Gecko said, “Fricka’s been searching every day since Juliana was lost.” Toby drawled, “Hawk’s a good hunter, but, she can’t fly into buildings, or talk to people. We can.” He caught Estelle’s gaze, and added, “Discreetly, of course. Not dressed as Supers.”

I’m running snippets from an unpublished short story in my superhero series. Once the latest draft is settled, I’ll move on to snippets from my next (hopefully) SciFi novel.

“What’s the plan, Big Jag,” Gecko asked. Toby quirked a black eyebrow; “Do you have a photo of the girl?” Gecko scrolled through the images on his phone. “Here’s Juliana,” he showed them a headshot of a girl with big dark eyes and a shy, gap-toothed smile. Capturing the image with the special Farleon app on his phone, Toby said, “I’ll send you guys a copy. Don’t give ‘em away; we’ll keep this search private.” He drummed his knuckles on the tabletop; “Night patrols, and we stop to question street kids.” Shrugging, he added, “Not my greatest plan, but we have to find the kid before she gets in trouble. Reckon the cops can do the major leg work.” He looked at the Jags; “Ideas, anyone else?”

I’m running snippets from an unpublished short story in my superhero series. It was written for an anthology that didn’t get published. I’m debating whether to expand it into a novella or make an anthology with other short stories. Any suggestions are welcome.
Background : After Estelle joined their table, Toby, the leader of the Secret Supers, has just explained that Gecko’s baby sister is missing. Toby continued, “Problem number two, our contact in the cops’ station sent word they’re worried about street kids disappearing. Inspector Parkins suspects child trafficking or something. Reckon the two problems might be connected.” Stabbing his forefinger at Gecko, he said, “Tell them about the chief suspect.” “Okay;” Gecko frowned; “Normally, Juliana rides the school bus with Sofia, a girl from the next building in our complex. The day she went missing, her friend was sick, and neither of the mothers came to meet the bus. Bus driver watched a woman greet Juliana and lead her away. Typical Latina, short hair, neatly dressed; driver thought she was a relative from out of town. Didn’t get worried until next morning when the cops called.” Toby said, “Know it’s not much, but she’s the only hint we have.”

I’m running snippets from an unpublished short story in my superhero series. It was originally intended for an anthology that didn’t receive enough submissions. I’m debating whether to expand it into a novella or make an anthology with other short stories. Any suggestions are welcome.  Sorry for skipping two weeks. Two Sundays ago, I was traveling from London to Atlanta. Last weekend, I was attending a departmental retreat. He winked at her, “Hi, Star.” His special, lop-sided grin sent her pulse racing. “What’s up?” she asked. He nodded toward the younger student, “Problem number one, Gecko’s baby sister is missing.”“Juliana Rosado’s not really my sister,” Gecko explained, “she’s the seven-year old daughter of a family living in my apartment complex. I’ve kind of adopted Juliana; play ball with her after school. She’s a happy girl, not the type to run away; her mother’s frantic. Cops have been searching for almost a week, and the whole neighborhood’s jittery.” After this uncharacteristically long speech, he shook his head and looked at Toby. “Yep; know how it is; ain’t easy to lose part of your family,” Toby drawled.
