September Newsletter: It’s Here!

So, I did a thing. My book Love and Bonds is out today. If you liked my fantasy and paranormal romance books but wanted more steam, well, here it is. So that I don’t confuse my readers who preferred my books with a lower amount of steam, I decided to release this book under my new pen name, Liz E. Cooper.

The ebook is still just 99 cents but today is the last day. However, it is on Kindle Unlimited. I am still looking for hype people. As I mentioned the last time, the person who best hypes my books will win a prize package of hardback books (not just mine), gift card and other swag. Just email me if you are interested.

Lila let out a huff. Clearly, she wasn’t on the same vibration I was on. “You know, with Kai around, I’m not sure how I’m going to meet any guys. He’ll scare them all away.”

I pushed my thumb back at him on my left. “I have him sitting beside me, so you aren’t even near him. They’ll, unfortunately, think he’s my guy.”

He grumbled something I couldn’t hear and sat up in the lounger to look over at Lila. “I can be your wingman.”

She raised her frozen margarita in salute to him before taking a sip.

It took nothing to pacify her.

I turned to him. He was stretched back down again on the lounger. He was wearing black trunks. The muscles in his olive tanned arms, stomach and legs popped under the sunlight. His body was a mass of black ink, but it didn’t detract from his shape, and my eyes kept glancing down at his sculpted thighs glistening under the sun. He could have been a middle-weight boxer or some type of athlete at one point, but the guy kept his six-pack. A slight line of dark hair ran the navel of his hard stomach to the top of his trunks, and I fought with all my might not to trail it with my fingers.

I made the mistake of looking up at his face, and he was grinning, probably at me. Dang it, he knew I was checking him out. That was very much not what I wanted. “Will you be a wingman for me?” I asked jokingly.

He lost his smile. “Absolutely not. I will cock block you this whole trip. I should have mentioned that as a disclaimer. And if you test me, I might just kill any guy who steps toward you.” He seemed very serious when he said that, his eyes flashing red.

Lance’s lycan form shifted back to human, but he still had the golden eyes. He moved against me again, burying his nose in my neck. “Mine,” he growled, still purring. His hand moved to my waist, then moved it over my stomach, inching down until he was almost at my center.

I grabbed his hand, looking around the garage. What in the hell was he doing? Was he actually going to grab me out in public like this? “Uh, sir, I think you need to settle down.”

“Mine,” he growled again before licking my neck and kissing it.

My eyes fluttered, but I tried to maintain some sort of sanity. We were in public, and there was a damaged car in the middle of the driving path. The demon bodies, thankfully, had all vanished after death as they tended to do. Still, none of that mattered because his mouth on my skin felt like warm silk, tickling every nerve in my body.

I needed to move, but I really didn’t want to go anywhere. I wanted him to bend me over the hood of my car and have his way with me. My legs needed to move, but they were made of cement now.

“We need to move the car and get inside. And you need to maybe take a cold shower.” I did too, but I wouldn’t say that out loud.

Music While You Read

Many writers listen to music when they write, and it definitely puts me in a headspace. Certain songs fit right in with scenes in my Paranormal Universe while others fit the overall theme. Check out my playlist for the books in my Paranormal Universe Series.

Some fun ones:

Enemy by Imagine Dragons and JID– This is a great one that fits the theme of battle since every series, Paranormal World, Paranormal Times, Paranormal Rising and Paranormal Lands involve epic battles.

Time by NF– This song is what plays in my head in the post battle scene of Mystic Souls when Amina and Phillip make their sacrificial decision.

Paint it, Black by Ciara– This is Fran’s theme song, from Paranormal Times. It’s badda$$ and so is she.

Treat People with Kindness by Harry Styles– This one might seem odd, but Harry Styles was my inspiration for the vampire and former boy bander, Niles, in Mystic Souls and Lightning and Curses. In Lightning, Niles performs a song, and this is the one in my head he is singing.

Power by Beyonce and Co.- This one is all about powerful women and every one of my books is filled with strong women. No damsels here.

June Newsletter: New Projects

Summer is my favorite season. Yes, it can be unbearably hot at times, but I love the long days and summer fashion. It also is a time to take breaks. This is what I’m doing with my Paranormal World Universe books. But not forever.

Right now, I am going a different route. Spicy paranormal romance. I even have a new author name, Liz Cooper. Happy Women’s History Month! This month I talk more about my writing inspiration and give you a sneak peak of my next cover.

Deathly Dreams Cover Teaser

Currently I’m going through the editing process for the sequel to Deathly Touch that I plan to release in May. Sorry, it took so long but I wasn’t even sure I was really going to do a book two. However, the feedback was unexpected, and I decided to pause my other works and give the second chapter in Evan and Jazmine’s life.

Here’s a brief and very rough draft summary of Deathly Dreams, Paranormal Rising Book 2:

Evan’s return after six months comes with a dark secret he won’t share, but he isn’t the only one withholding deadly information. With nightmares causing many in her town, including her, injuries and eventual death in the real world, Jazmine must race to find out who is behind their possible curse before time runs out. But can the pair work out their ever-growing problems to find a solution in time?

Horror Movies that Inspired My Writing

The Ruins- This is a creepy one and left me very respectful of Mexican ruins and plant life. The main takeaway was the killer plant life and if you’ve read Mystic Bonds and Mystic Journeys you will recall how plant life is anything but harmless in that world.

Cabin in the Woods- This is just a fun one where once again there are a cast of characters fighting off evil much like in my books. Except I hope my folks are smarter.

The Thing- One of my favorite horror/sci fi films of all time after Aliens. I love this one because of the group of personalities and not knowing if your colleague is a monster. That theme plays heavily in Mystic Awakenings and Mystic Souls.

Aliens- Ripley is all of the things. I even quote one of her lines from this movie in one of my books. I love a bad-ass heroine. If you are looking for someone who is no nonsense from the start, check out Fran from the Paranormal Times series (Mystic Memories and Dark Hauntings).

I celebrate black authors all year round and in honor of this month, I’m going to share some black authors in horror, fantasy and paranormal romance.

Horror– Tananarive Due –

Check out her first book, My Soul to Keep, that I’ve read (I love horror movies but, admittedly, don’t read it as much). Stephen King called this book an eerie epic and that he loved it. I’ve read a few of her books and would highly recommend her.

Urban Fantasy– Me! Just kidding. L.A. Banks was probably the most popular Black UF writer before her passing. I find it really hard to locate other black UF authors on Amazon via a keyword search but there are a ton in the indie realm that I have found on facebook and instagram. I just recently downloaded Whitney Hill’s first book, Shadow’s of Otherside. It’s gotten a lot of attention. I actually found her because she DID come up on a related search of my book on Amazon.

Paranormal Romance– Kimberly Lemming- Check out her book That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon.

The title should tell you what kind of ride you are getting. It had plenty of steam and the characters are fun.

January Newsletter: New Year, Same me!

January is my quiet month and it’s also a lazy one. I am no fan of the cold and find it only useful to bring in snow because a girl likes the view of a winter wonderland! But, yeah, when’s spring, again?

This month I’m finishing up the first draft of the sequel to Deathly Touch, Deathly Dreams. Look out for the cover in the next newsletter or two. I hope to release it in late April. Then I’ll be moving on to write the sequel to Dark Hauntings. I’m slowing down so just those two are my publishing goals for the year.

How I’m Inspired

Finally, I’m picking back up on horror movies that inspired me. If you recall, I am a HUGE horror movie fan, so it stands to reason that I’m going to be influenced by them. Here are the next five movies that affected my writing and how:

30 days of night- First, I’m a huge vampire fan and I liked that this one did not romantize them, which was unique and terrifying. I also liked the bond between the lead male character and his brother (Amina and Charles, anyone?). The Conjuring– This one is all about the supernatural and family and love. The franchise is a favorite of mine. I love the bond of the family and the ghosts experts. They supported each other very well through horrifying times. The theme of helping in odd and scary times is huge between The Six in my books.The Mist– Monsters, both the human and beast kind, make this a good watch. I’m always fascinated how people show their true colors or revert to their worse selves when faced with troubling times. When the supernatural come in the mist, you see how a small group of people trapped in a grocery store come undone. My Paranormal World Universe is all about how humanity changes and adapts when the supernatural take over and if you’ve read any of the books, you know it’s not all holding hands and helping. 28 days later– Again, another apocalyptic movie that I enjoyed. It starts showing how the main character fights to survive after waking up in a horrifying world and how humanity responds and changes. As I noted, this is huge in my books which are post-apocalyptic. Poltergeist– Another family supernatural tale. If you can’t tell, I’m big on themes of friendship and family in scary times and how supportive and sacrificing they can be. There are siblings in my Paranormal World books and in Deathly Touch (and will be in the Dark Hauntings sequel). I also have a sister, so it just feels natural. Book Spotlight
