Character Profile: Bernard ‘Buddy’ Owen
Age: 21
Occupation: KAPPA SO brother
Youngest son of Charles ‘Chick’ Owen better known as The Cappy, Buddy’s family empire stretches from political dynasties, property development and golf resorts. It’s suffice to say he leads a privileged life. With privilege comes the ability to bend the rules in one’s favour.
Leader of the COLDFORD Chapter of Kappa So. Buddy relishes chaos and being allowed to run amok in the Shady City. Rumours leaving the chapter house of the horrific torture inflicted upon the pledges are plentiful but it has been the way since the original Owen founded them.
Having come to the city from the Great States Buddy is a big shark in a pond of minnows. With the whole world at his feet and a powerful family driving him forward Buddy seems a force to be reckoned with. The KNOCK KNOCK CLUB club have found themselves a dangerous enemy.
Buddy made a brief appearance in EP 9 of Volume 1 but did you see it?

Let’s Get Creative
This week we’ve been taking a look at a more fun side of the Shady City from the KNOCK KNOCK CLUB ORIGINS with the BARONESS , boss lady, TABITHA’s relationship with her beloved aunt and how the Knock Knock did some good in the city’s poorest area, THE SHANTIES. It’s time to shine a light on the darker side again because life in the SHADY CITY is tough.
She’s no DAVID FINN but our Boss Lady is certainly creative.
It’s bound to get a whole lot more inventive in Volume 2 but in the meantime along with our REPORTER you are invited into Tabitha’s world.
Volume 1 is free to read on Vivika Widow Online or download for Kindle by clicking HERE.

The Broker, The Boss and The Baroness
The KNOCK KNOCK CLUB was running the same routine it always did. Co owner, Agnes, made sure the patrons were happily seated, the girls were safe and circulating and the stage was set for the evening’s entertainment. Things had been smooth for the most part. Aside for Bette, one of the dancers, having laddered her tights at the last minute. Her partner, TAWNY, was busy laughing, joking and making the customers feel at home. A performer at heart, she would take to the stage herself later that night.
“Better head back stage and get ready,” Tawny said to Agnes as she passed.
Agnes stopped and had took the glass of gin and tonic from her hand and laid it on the bar which she was leaning against, watching the comings and goings of the club.
“You’re going to end up crawling onto that stage if you don’t slow down,” she warned.
Tawny chuckled and rolled her eyes. That was how they operated. Agnes was the den mother to the staff and Tawny got away with being the one they all liked. Agnes didn’t mind being the kill joy. Someone had to run the business side of the club. She loved Tawny but things would have fallen to ruin if she had been left to her own devices.
After another half hour passed Jack, the club compare, ushered off a young singer who had fallen a little flat on her performance.
“I am so pleased to introduce,” said Jack in his thick LUEN accent, “our very own Baroness.”
The crowd cheered. It was lucky it was time to move onto Tawny’s segment because the crowd that had come from the MACK AND SON’S brewery were starting to become rowdy.
Tawny took the center stage with a trombone over her shoulder and with a kiss of her hand Jack departed.
“Good evening folks!” she began. They rang back in their appreciation. “It’s always a pleasure to see you all here. The night is still young so let’s get something with a wee bit ‘a bounce going.”
“We love you Tawny!” one of the Mack’s called. Probably the patriarch Brendan who was inebriated by then.
Tawny swung the trombone back onto her shoulders. “Thanks honey. I love you too,” she replied. “But I’m kinda in the middle of something here,” she jested.
With a few more jokes to warm the audience the music broke in again using the in house band to accompany Tawny.
The barmaid, Gemma, approached.
“There’s a young girl at the door,” she told Agnes.
Agnes kept her view across the club. “How young?” she asked.
“Too young,” Gemma confirmed. “But she says she’s Tawn’s niece.”
Agnes finally looked to the barmaid. “Tabitha?”
Gemma nodded. “Yeah, a pretty little thing.”
Agnes pushed past her. “Don’t leave her standing outside in the alley for Christ’s sake.”
The doorman stepped aside and as Gemma had described there was a pretty young girl of pre-teen age. She had long flowing brunette hair and when she smiled she showed a gap between her front teeth that was girlish and charming.
“Tabs!?” Agnes cheered. “What are you doing here?”
“Is Aunt Tee on tonight?”
“Come in,” Agnes ushered her inside.
It had been the first time TABITHA had seen the inside of her aunt’s beloved club. She looked about herself in awe as she absorbed the atmosphere. She grinned when she saw her aunt on the stage in the middle of her routine. Agnes clutched her shoulder and led her back stage.
“Wait here,” Agnes instructed. “Stay out of trouble.”
The dancer girls had just come off stage and when they saw Tabitha they flocked around her.
“Isn’t she beautiful?” one cooed.
Bette agreed. “She has the most luscious hair.”
Agnes shooed them off. “Come on girls, let her breathe.”
Tabitha looked up to the stair way and saw Tawny come off stage.
“Aunt Tee!” she cried out and ran to her.
Tawny wrapped her arms around the girl and lifted her off her feet, planting kisses all over her face.
“Trouble!” Tawny cheered the nickname she had for her niece. “It’s good to see you. How did you get here?”
“Bus,” explained the girl.
“You should have called. I could have come and got you,” Tawny offered but Tabitha just shrugged it off.
“It’s good to see you again Tabs. Sorry I had to abandon you earlier,” Agnes greeted. She had met Tabitha a few times by then. Tawny was always talking about her niece. She was the only family that the Baroness counted. She had her brother and sister in law of course, Tabitha’s parents, but to her Tabitha was the most precious thing in the world.
Knowing this Agnes had been nervous to meet her the first time. She wanted to bond with Tabitha for Tawny’s sake and she did but she hadn’t expected the kind of girl Tabitha was.
“Your aunt and I are …” Agnes had tried to explain delicately.
Tabitha looked her dead in the eye and said, “you’re a couple of rug munchers. Yeah I know. So what?”
Tawny almost spat out her water with laughter. “Is that what the kids are calling it these days?”
Agnes learned quickly that Tabitha was no delicate little princess. She was unfiltered in her attitude and if she saw something differently she was not shy in expressing herself. She would always accept Agnes without question as long as she made her precious Aunt Tee happy. She seemed abrasive, rough and cruel sometimes but when you really knew her as Agnes and her aunt did it was easy to see a loving child underneath. When they were together, laughing and dancing, they felt like a real family. It was the reason Tabitha insisted on escaping what should have been a privileged life in Filton to find them. It was why the Knock Knock club was the only place she considered home and she would protect it with every fiber of her being.

The next steps …
“Mrs McElroy,” the doctor introduced himself. “Or should I say, Nurse McElroy,” he added.
Jessica smiled. It had taken a failed marriage and the death of her ONLY SON to bring her to that point.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity, sir,” she replied. “When I returned to nursing after so long I didn’t think I would manage but I completed the training and I’m very much looking forward to settling in. The HARBOUR HOUSE facility is beautiful.”
DR WINSLOW leaned back in his chair and scanned her entire frame. “Sometimes our path in life comes a little later. I, myself, didn’t enter medical school until my mid twenties.”
Jessica was in her forties now. She had began a nursing course at seventeen but met Walter, married quickly, quit her course and had her son DORIAN. When Dorian died she struggled to find her purpose in life again. She wanted to help people like Dorian. She had failed her son by letting her lose touch but she could help others who were consumed with depression, anxiety and who’s dark thoughts were drawing them away from everyone who loved them. She couldn’t stop her boy taking his own life. She couldn’t reveal the secret he tried to take to his grave but Harbour House was the perfect place to make sure it didn’t happen again.

Hathfield Bay: The Waves
Stadium: Bay Park

A spirited team from the Hathfield Bay Islands, their competitive edge is always trumped by the enjoyment of the game. Their love of the game and the enjoyment of their fans will always be more important than any trophy. What is best known about them is their friendly spirit and the welcoming atmosphere of their stadium. Given the beach side setting, travelling fans often make their visit a holiday.
Known for the standard age of their fans being older than the rest of the league the Islanders are always well treated at away matches. Trouble doesn’t suit Hathfield so when the fans of BELLFIELD caused trouble and damage to the stadium after a disappointing result, the public were shocked.
Supporting the team and supporting each other is important to the islanders. The sponsors – Moray Marina – is the location of the ‘FEED HATHFIELD’ program and has been running since the first great recession almost closed the bay down.
Our most notable Shady City fan of Hathfield is TAWNY, affectionately known as the Baroness. An islander herself she is best known for being the aunt of KNOCK KNOCK boss lady TABITHA. Tawny, like her favoured team is spirited, friendly and willing to enter the thick of the action when the moment calls.

Character Profile: Tawny McInney aka The Baroness
Age: 56
Occupation: Founder of the KNOCK KNOCK CLUB
Features in: KNOCK KNOCK
Tawny was a much loved figure in the Shanties area of the city where her club is located. A singer, performer, comedienne she was never more at home than when she was on her stage making others smile. Affectionately known as the Baroness by her patrons. With the help of her partner, Agnes, she has learned to navigate some difficult events.
A native of the Hathfield Bay Islands she travelled to the city with her brother Rob in search of more opportunities. The first recession had almost closed the bay down and resources on the islands were limited.
What is most distinctive about Tawny is that she is the aunt of Knock Knock boss Lady TABITHA. Where most see Tabitha as ruthless and, dare we say, murderous, Tawny sees another side of a her niece and they are close. Despite Tawny being laid back and kind natured she can be fiercely protective of those she loves.

She has the reputation of being flaky and colourful in her views of reality. Having experienced a mental break down her fragility is exposed when her beloved club comes under attack.
Tawny had some influence in a big event of Knock Knock Volume 1 but is still yet to make her appearance. Available free to read on Vivika Widow Online or download for Kindle by clicking HERE.

On the Other Hand …
When the DISTILLERY bell sounded at the end of a Friday the next port of call for the Mack workers was the KNOCK KNOCK CLUB. It was a great place for them to wind down after a week of hard work. The club always welcomed them with open arms.
Paddy and his brothers – Kieran and Aiden – always went. At age twelve, Alfie was too young.
“I want to see the titty shows,” Alfie insisted.
“He’s a lad,” their father, Brendan beamed, tousliing Alfie’s hair.
Their mother, Anne, clipped Alfie’s ear for his language. Despite his protests he was left behind.
Brendan frequented of the club back in his younger days but now retired from the factory and wheelchair bound he attended less and less. On the days he did visit he was treated as a special guest by the boss lady, TABITHA.
Brendan clutched Paddy’s arm as he was leaving. “You be sure now and keep them in line. You know what they get like when they have a few.” He meant Paddy’s brothers as well as the Mack workers.
Paddy smiled in reassurance. “Don’t worry, Da.”
Kieran was the eldest Mack son by a number of years but couldn’t be trusted to contain the rowdy bunch from the factory having been known to get out of hand himself, especially when booze began to flow. Paddy was the level headed one so it was always up to him to keep a lid on anyone making nuisances of themselves.
And so with their usual table the Mack’s and their team settled in for a good night. It had all been quite tame so far in comparison to other nights. Paddy was enjoying a glass of his family brand with Tabitha for company. They both had their backs to the bar and were overlooking the patrons, a combination of two powerful empires within the south of the Shady City.
Kieran and some of the others were playing poker. One of the KNOCK KNOCK GIRLS – a leggy blonde with small, doll – like features – was sat on his knee with her arm around him, helping him play his hand. The mood was jovial and relaxed.
“You haven’t said anything about my new dress,” Tabitha was saying.
Paddy looked at her. She was wearing one of her many well – fitting, specially designed LUEN dresses. She wasn’t really expecting Paddy to say anything about her dress. She knew he wouldn’t know a Luen designer from any other. All the red dresses looked to the same to him. He suspected she was just looking to steer the conversation. She was a beauty. She was tough, confident and wily but she was incredibly self absorbed.
“You know you always look great,” he replied. His Bellfield accent placed emphasis on the R.
Tabitha scoffed as though he had been the one to bring it up. “Aren’t you sweet,” she grinned, patting his arm flirtatiously.
“Get off!” one of the Knock Knock girls growled at a factory worker. Her cry had been so loud the singer on the stage hesitated.
He had clutched her around her waist as she carried a tray of empty glasses to the bar. She had pushed him away playfully at first. Then she had given him a polite warning. When he refused to leave her she became irate. He tried to snatch her long, brunette pony tail.
Tabitha’s expression switched from flirty grin to a severe growl. “Deal with that, or I will.” It was a warning not to be taken lightly.
Paddy made his way hastily to the scene figuring the worker would stand a better chance with him than he would Tabitha. He pulled the worker away from the girl.
“She said to let ‘er go,” Paddy warned.
The factory worker was bald, a BELLFIELD FC tattoo etched on his thick forearm. He was so inebriated with alcohol he was unable to stand steady.
“I was just avin’ a lil fun,” he groaned. His eyes almost rolled in his head.
Paddy’s warning became sterner. “If she wants ye she’ll come to ye. Ye know the rules.”
Satisfied he had made his point Paddy turned back to the bar.
“Yer no the feckin’ boss in ‘ere,” he growled the worker. He reached out and pushed Paddy by the shoulder.
Kieran’s laughter rang above the commotion. “Oh, ye should’ne have done that!” he cheered.
As Paddy twisted his fist had clenched. He threw it at the factory worker catching his chin in a teeth clattering blow, sending him falling onto the sticky floor. The Mack’s and their workers cheered. The Knock Knock girl watched Paddy in bewildered amusement.
“It’s grand,” he assured her. “He’ll be sorry when he sobers up.”
The girl took her tray to the bar and Paddy returned to his spot beside Tabitha.
“Another for Paddy, Lisa,” Tabitha instructed the bar maid. “He’s doing the fucking security’s job for them.”
They both watched in amusement as the factory worker carried himself back to the table, still clutching his chin. The rest of the Mack party were teasing him mercilessly. Aiden Mack provided a dramatic reenactment.
Mack and Sons will be making their entrance into Knock Knock Volume 2.

So where did it all go wrong?
“VINCENT BAINES,” he began. “Son of the great composer Fredrick Baines, a concert pianist by age twelve and a professional violinist by fifteen. By all accounts you are a remarkable man. So where did it all go wrong?”
Vincent remained straight backed on the chair, his arms clasped across his lap.
“I received a call from Elizabeth BECKINGRIDGE,” explained the former music teacher. “She needed someone for her nephew, George. He had been causing trouble I suppose and they thought that some music lessons would calm him down.”
The doctor sniffed. He took a note in the yellow papered pad in front of him.
“We all know about the business with the Beckingridge family. It was very well documented at the time. Thanks to modern technology the press shot of you being brought in by the police, hands on your head, can still be found.” The doctor watched for a reaction but Vincent gave none. He continued. “I think in order for us to really get to the route of the problem we will have to dig a little deeper.”
