Kingdoms of Vivika Widow

Navaria: Famously the setting for the events of 'Red Snow'. Navaria is a cold land filled with intrigue and tales of witchcraft. Ruled by the Von Garr dynasty from Castle Kroestov the people are held in fear by a curse of madness that plagues their monarchs. Navaria holds many secrets amidst it's grey landscape and the Navarians have been known to be ruthlessly savage. They are set in their ways and when newcomers arrive over their borders it always arouses suspicion. Navaria:

Elgany: Viewed by outsiders as a land of sophistication and culture Elgany is a beautiful kingdom built along the banks of the Chessy River. They are ruled by the Marlaud dynasty. In the centre of Elgany lies the grand Mardaux Palace which boasts over 500 rooms. King Benjamin lives a lavish lifestyle and his queen, Manon, bears jewels the likes of which no queen has ever seen. However, the true face of Elgany lies in the Derremont in the north. There the brothels and ale houses bring men from all walks of life together to whisper a plot. King Benjamin's days on the throne are numbered. Elgany:

Ravensedge: Ravensedge is perched high in the Alinway Mountains east of Navaria. The Sparrington Hold boasts some of the greatest and most powerful knights the world has known. Ruled by the Deveraux dynasty from Castle Sparrington the people of Ravensedge are a mystery. To breach the high fort is to observe a kingdom of lost ideals, a world where values long gone are preserved. The feared Knights Guard, sworn to protect the Deveraux family, have been without war for generations but they wait. They train and they prepare because one day a war will come to them again. Alnwick A smaller kingdom with great power. Alnwick lies as a landmass of its own. The people of Alnwick have been known to stand strong in the face of adversity. Alnwick is ruled by the Steward dynasty from Eccleshall and despite successfully avoiding the disagreements of their neighbours Alnwick still yields a force capable of matching their larger foes. Susiname:
The largest island of the southern provinces. Susiname exists outside the laws of man. Its savage land contains beasts not seen anywhere else and its shores are controlled by blood thirsty pirates.
The head of the provinces changes frequently and the social divide between the rich and poor will never be closed but beneath Susiname’s rough exterior beats the heart of a beautiful country with boundless wealth.

‘The Drowning Pool’ by Syd Moore: A Review

‘The Drowning Pool’ by Syd Moore is a brilliantly intruiging story of horror and betrayal.

Set in modern day the heroine, Sarah Grey, is drawn by ghostly apparitions to a time when her name sake in the 1800’s was accused of witchcraft.

The overall plot is reminiscent of old horrors of the 70’s which although not everyone’s cup of tea I love.

The story was well written and had a very fast pace. The narrative was written from the main characters prospective which engaged the reader but at times used words and phrases that noone would really write in memoirs so I found it a little condescending.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of Syd Moore’s novels.

Overall I rate: VVVV
