2016 Cygnus Award Nomination

I made a post about this on my Facebook Page, but neglected to share the news on my blog as well.

A couple of weeks ago, Chanticleer Reviews revealed the first few titles shortlisted for the 2016 Cygnus Awards, and I’m thrilled to sayUnbroken Light has made the cut. You may recall thatChasing Shadows also received a nomination for last year’s awards, and I’m absolutely thrilled to have been named to the shortlist for both of my novels.

A few more names have been posted since the initial annou...

Some Updates

First of all, I want to say that, no matter who you are, no matter who you choose to love, no matter your faith, I hope you are safe and warm. Know that if you are a reader of mine, I appreciate you so much, and hope only the best for you. And if you’re not a reader of mine, well, pretty much the same thing. Be safe, and if your circumstances allow, I hope you are free to be yourself, through and through.

So. Some updates.

As I said in my previous post, I have moved to a new state and start...

New Beginning

I wrote this post this morning, but if you’re reading it at its publishingtime, then I’m currently on a plane, moving to a new home.

This is one of those things that happened pretty suddenly, all things considered. The right things fell into place, and now it’s time to go forward. It’s exciting and wildly intimidating all at once, as big things often are. I’ve said that so many times now that the words are a little numb, but this is the next step forward for me, and a lot of things are changi...

Author Social Media

About a week ago, I launched an author Facebook page. There’s not much content there yet, but it’s another place where you can follow me other than this blog. In the interest of making everything simple, here are all of my author social media pages / accounts / whatever else we’re callingthem these days:

Star Federation Database: Arkin Species

SF Database Header

One of the most versatile species in the galaxy, arkins are winged, felinecreatures that are capable of adapting to almost any environment. Most studies of the species show that when introduced to a new habitat, the creatures are able to naturallybreed to near-perfect standards within a fewgenerations. They have been observed to survive even in single-biome worlds such as the desert planet Yuna, provided there is prey for them to feed on, though when they are not the apex predator, their abi...

The Future of “Fire and Feathers”

Some of you may remember when I had a story in the works calledFire and Feathers. It was hosted via the application StoryShift and was a fantasy hybrid of the Choose Your Own Adventure genre and serialized fiction. Every time I released a chapter, I would include a choice at the end, and readers would vote on which option they wanted the main character to pick. It was fun while it lasted, but sadly, StoryShift is all but dead now, and most if not all of the stories have been discontinued. It...

Remembering Why I Love to Write

I took a long, long break from writing tofocus on another goal that only recently reached its conclusion: the Renaissance Faire. It was a successful undertaking, but it was a lot of work, and sucked up all the time I had. And do mean all of it. When I wasn’t at my job, I was parked in front of my sewing machine, frantically trying to get as much done as I could. I put off everything else. I did not draw, I did not write, I did not read, I did not exercise, I did not play video games, I did no...

A Tip for Goodreads Readers (+ Authors)

Earlier today, I discovered thatUnbroken Light has more reviews on Goodreads than I thought it did. Problem was, two of those reviews were attached to editions that had been submitted to the Goodreads database independently of the one I had uploaded to my author page. They were listed as separate books, written by separate authors when they should have all been in the same place and by the same person.

I’m not at allupset about this, nor do I think this is anything to be upset over. In fact,...
