Sunday Inspiration: The Lotus

“The lotus is the most beautiful flower, whose petals open one by one. But it will only grow in the mud. In order to grow and gain wisdom, first you must have the mud — the obstacles of life and its suffering. … The mud speaks of the common ground that humans share, no matter what our stations in life.

On The Road Again

I’m probably channeling Willie Nelson because last week, I saw a short clip from the new Ken Burns documentary on country music.

The clip was all about Kris Kristofferson, but Willie was in it, too. Be sure you “tune” in when the series airs on your local PBS station. The date’s not yet announced, but PBS says 2018.

Sunday Inspiration: The Purpose of Life

The purpose of life ”The purpose of life is to discover your gift. The meaning of life is to give it away.” David Viscott

Sunday Inspiration: A Chautauqua Prayer

I was inspired this week by the Civil Rights leader, Rev. Jesse Jackson, who spoke at Chautauqua as we celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the 40th anniversary of his assassination.

Jackson ended his speech with this moving prayer. I was in the amphitheater but unable to hear it, so I was grateful to the Chautauqua Daily for publishing his words this morning.

Book or Blog? What Should I Write Today?

Book or BlogUsually the middle of a book is the hardest part to write.

Endings have so much momentum that they almost write themselves–maybe not well, but still… Beginnings are so fresh, so exciting. If we begin well, we are hopeful we’ll continue that way, too.

Right now I’m in the middle of my next book for Mira.
