Dragon Wings: Drawing Fairies Day Two
I hope you realize that, after a year of drawing dragons, you are going to get a lot of fairies that look suspiciously like my dragons.
Shine on,
Kate

My Year of Drawing Fairies
After 365 days, I am much better at drawing dragons.
But I still have no idea how to draw a human.
Seriously, I drew a man’s face and my son said it looked like a dirty taco.
So I thought, maybe, I could work on drawing humans? But with a little more sparkle? And a lot more magic?
Welcome, then, to my year of drawing fairies.
Because, you know, the world needs a little more magic (and I need a lot more practice!).
Keep creating,
Kate

The End of the Year: Drawing Dragons Day 365
In my mind, when I began, I imagined my final dragon would be big and bright and beautiful. She would rise from the ashes, exploding from my pen, and coloring the world in fury and flame.
But it turns out, that is not what this year has been about.
This year has been about small stories, little victories. It’s been about looking at the world with the heart of a dragon, but seeing, really seeing, with the eyes of a child.
It’s been about wonder and hope. It’s been about joy.
I didn’t need a big old scary dragon this year.
I needed a dragon with a shine in its eye. I needed a dragon that could show me that even with all the stupid mistakes I make and all the ways I fail every day, there is another page on the calendar and another day where I can do a little better and be a little better.
A dragon that says I can do this — we can do this. We can change the world in our little ways.
We can care for each other. Believe in each other.
So that’s what I’m giving you.
Thank you, for a year of dragons. Here’s to another year full of hope and possibility.
Keep creating,
Kate

Almost done: Drawing Dragons Day 364
In my head, as I wrapped up the year, I planned on something big and wonderful. But when it came down to it, that wasn’t what this was about.
I wanted to draw an old friend, a dragon whose lines I had come to know.
More coming soon.
Keep creating,
Kate

A Christmas Dragon: Drawing Dragons Day 359
Snow did not fall, but winter seemed to come early this year. We snuggled up inside, turned on the fire and turned off the tv. We pulled our books close and each other closer.
We imagined the gifts that we could give each other. We thought about what we needed and what we wanted, and really, we just wanted to be happy.
For this year, that is enough.
Wonder and I drew dragons today: Ukrainian Ironbellies from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
He showed me how to fix my pirate ship. His is big – it now covers Mai office wall. Mine is big enough to share with you.
Merry Christmas. Wishing you light and love this holiday season.

Kate

Whoosh: Drawing Dragons Day 358
The duck billed dinosaur looks very focused, flying through the sky, searching for his prey.
Cupcakes.

Hello! Drawing Dragons Day 345
He says hello, like the world knowing the world is big and beautiful enough to see beyond his fangs and accept his fire.

And then there’s joy: Drawing Dragons Day 344
My 7 year old son still draws with joy. The lines come happily. Sometimes, at the end, when the picture doesn’t look right, there is frustration, or anger. But there’s all the happiness in between.
I want to live like that.
Keep creating,
Kate
