Sleepy: Drawing Dragons Day 343
My little puppy was sleeping at my feet. So I drew her as a dragon. She warms up my toes.

Dance the Funky Chicken: Drawing Dragons Day 341
The thing about my grandma Nancy, is that she filled up the room with her big and bright personality. With her voice box gone, we’d lean in to figure out what she was saying.
I’ve been thinking about her lately as we near the end of the year.
She always encouraged us, and I feel that now, even us I struggle through the hard stuff.

Kate

The dragon is in the details: Drawing Dragons Day 340
The dragon is in the details — the little bumps sliding down her back. I wish I hadn’t put them there. And then there’s that chest; all those confused lines in mismatched sizes.
But those wings are just so lovely and the eye turned up is quite fine.
The dragon is in the details, and this one shines, despite some things, and in celebration of others.

Kate

Chinese Dragons: Drawing Dragons Day 337
I started drawing this dragon, and it reminded me immediately of Ursula LeGuin’s celebration of life. After a night filled with writers, artists, and loved ones discussing her work and how she lived in the world, the night ended with a Chinese dragon, flowing into the hall, filling us all with joy and wonder and sadness and hope and everything good and possible.
Here’s wishing your life feels like that.

Spit: Drawing Dragons Day 334
I am holding a candle.
I will light your way.
I just need to light it.
But I cannot find my fire.
It is all spit and smoke.
