Only 99¢ The Stone Family Haven
A man who has been burned too many times. A woman who’s running from her ex. Will they help each other heal and find a second chance at love?
★★★★★From kindle all-star and USA Today author, Taylor Hart! The South Port Beach Series!
Brooks Stone, FBI superhero, strike that, demoted FBI now … doesn’t want to talk about why he had a mental break a year ago. He doesn’t want to talk about his dead partner. He really doesn’t want to talk about why the tremor in his hand won’t go away. When he agrees to watch the family Inn for two weeks, he finds himself looking forward to the peace of South Port. Too bad he meets a strange woman with eyes that remind him of the ocean and an attitude so bad, she could scare off any lethal assassin, except him of course.
Serenity Rome only knew one thing about life; it was hard. Good thing she could do hard. She’d done hard when her father had left when she was ten. She’d done hard when her mother had been given the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s five years ago. And she’d done even harder when the man she’d married had turned violent and threatened to kill her. Now, as she rus for her life, all she knows is that she has to find the Conquistador’s gold. The gold her family journal proves she had claim to.
When she wakes up on a park bench, and discovers she’s face to face with Brooks Stone, one of the infamous Stone family, she has no idea why he offers to have her stay at his family Inn. She only agrees to it because it gives her an opportunity to learn more about this treasure. Not because the man is gorgeous. No. She could care less about how gorgeous he is or how he seems to see right through her lies, but wants to help her anyway. No, she doesn’t care about any of that.
As these six Stone siblings find a way back to each other, they must learn to let go of what doesn’t matter and cling to the things their parents always wanted for them--family, love, and fun memories on the beach.
**Excerpt from The Stone Family Haven:**
This had just gotten real.
Brooks remained calm. His training had prepared him for every kind of situation. It felt good to focus on something besides new recruits or cleaning. “You want to talk about it?”
“No, I don’t.” Her tone was soft.
Brooks wanted to pull her into him and just hold her. That was odd for him. He wasn’t a guy who initiated physical affection, even for someone he knew well. But this woman looked tired and was clearly frazzled. He had so much respect for her. She was tough, even sleeping on park benches.
Too bad his trust issues had been off the rails since Agent Mac and Evans and … the shrink at the clink, as he’d started calling it in his mind. Yet he found himself asking, “Will you come stay at the inn? Help out with the cleaning?”
“I … I don’t know.” She looked at the money in her hand. “I feel bad enough even taking this.”
“No.” No way was he taking the money back. And no way he’d let her sleep on park benches any longer. He found himself wanting to help her more than he’d wanted to help anyone for a long, long time. “It would be doing me a favor. I promised the place would be clean and that I would do it, so I don’t want my brother thinking I couldn’t pull through.”
A slight smile tugged at the edges of her lips. “So I’m helping you out, am I?”
Flirting. Was she flirting? Brooks wasn’t good at flirting—another thing his brothers teased him about. He could get by, but it wasn’t his forte like it would be Marshall or Trent’s. “It would help me out in a big way.”
Those ocean blue eyes met his. “How do I know you’re not some weirdo who’s going to kill me?”
He wanted to laugh, but he kept a straight face. “I guess you don’t.”
She snapped her fingers. “Oh, right. I forgot. If you wanted me dead, I would be.”
He didn’t know how to respond. She was definitely flirting.
“I guess I could use a shower and I could stay a few days while I figure things out. And I definitely would work hard.”
“Perfect, let’s go.” He began walking down the beach, hoping she’d follow.
She did. “I’m not afraid of work.”
“Good. And you would have to eat meals with me, too. I hate eating alone.”
She stopped. “What?”
“My last girlfriend wouldn’t hardly eat, and I hate eating by myself. So if you stay, you have to eat meals with me.” He put his hand to his chest. “As a favor.”
She laughed. “This is crazy.”
He wouldn’t give up. “I know it sounds strange, but not eating with me would be its own kind of punishment.”
The corners of her lips turned up. “You care that much if I eat with you?”
“Oh yeah. C’mon,” he said. “You stay, help clean, eat meals. It’s not so bad. And then you can figure out what to do about this dirt bag ex.”
“I don’t even know your name.”
He put his hand out. “I’m Brooks. And you know I’m a Stone.”
She hesitated, clearly evaluating something. After a minute, she shook his hand. “Nice to meet you, Brooks.”
“And what is your name?”
“Serenity,” she said. She winced as she pulled her hand back. “Ouch.”
“Did I hurt you?”
“No, I just … hurt my wrist a couple weeks ago.”
“The dirt bag ex?”
She frowned, then looked away. “Yeah.”
He already wanted to teach this guy a lesson. Surprisingly, he trusted this woman. That wasn’t common for him. He had a feeling, like a hand softly on his back, letting him know he was being guided to help her. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” She rubbed her wrist.
He nodded down the beach. “Let’s get back home.”
“Okay.”
Home. Had he just used that word?

From the author:
It might sound silly, but I like ‘secret identity’ themes.
So I decided--why not give you a whole collection about these kinds of people. And why NOT include my newest Secret Undercover Jamaica Jagger Billionaire----IN THIS COLLECTION?
I love the idea of people NOT knowing someone’s true identity. Especially when they are famous or super rich or … something that our society has deemed as ‘super important.’
I love watching a regular person interact with this ‘important person’ and then discovering…that they actually ARE super cool people … not because of anything society has said….only because ----they are giving or kind or unselfish or…any of Christ’s attributes.
And—I love that ‘super important’ person to recognize their true selves---in viewing themselves through the ‘first time’ eyes of someone else who doesn’t know them yet.
Books included:
The Christmas Groom
The Barefoot Groom
Last Play
The Football Groom
The Undercover Groom
★★
Plus-- Bonus Jagger Books:
Secret Undercover Billionaire

Watching the play of emotions across her face, he let out a low whistle. “Seems like there’s an interesting story.”
Hesitating, she figured why not spill to a complete stranger? “No, not really. Actually, it’s quite cliché—girl meets boy, falls in love, plans wedding on a Hawaiian beach, and … boy doesn’t show up.”
Seeming to measure her revelation, he squinted. “Ouch.”
His reaction made her laugh. “To boot, I found out later he and my best friend …” She couldn’t even say it.
“Ah, I’m sorry.”
Waving her hand in the air, she grunted out a laugh and wagged her finger at him. “See, I wasn’t going to tell anyone that story this weekend.”
Not reacting for a second, he said, “Why not? Everyone has pain. Most of us wouldn’t be here if we didn’t.”
She hadn’t thought of that. She’d been focused on the meat market and hadn’t even thought about what others were going through. She squinted back at him. “So what’s your pain?”
She knew, from the look on his face, it was the wrong question to ask, but the journalist in her had to know. And, she admitted to herself, maybe it was more than just the journalist who wanted to know.
Letting out a breath, he put his hands up in surrender. “Nothing to tell.”
Suddenly London felt naked. She’d just bared her soul, and he hadn’t reciprocated in the slightest. She had a flashback to Dillon and the way he would never engage about personal things without drastic measures. “No, of course you don’t have a story.”
He snapped his head up. “What?”
“I sit here and tell you all about me …” She let out a derisive laugh. “Man, I guess I’m the emotional, needy one in my seven circles of hell.” She moved to get out of the hot tub.
“Wait, don’t leave.” He put his hand out. “Just calm down.”
But she was already out, wrapping her towel and sliding into her flip-flops.
“You say I didn’t reciprocate, but you didn’t even ask my name.”
Rattled, she hesitated and stared back at him.
He didn’t answer.
And then it hit her. She cringed and shook her head. “No.”
Moving to where she’d been sitting, he picked up her book and held it out for her. “I’m Cooper.”
All she could do was stare at him.
Without blinking, he lifted one shoulder into a shrug. “You gotta admit I’m right about the spark.”
How humiliating. London had walked right into his little trap, and he’d played her like a piano. What a manipulative slime ball. Ripping the book away from him, she rushed toward the fence. “Nice line. Go try it on someone else.”
* * *
Hustling to breakfast the next morning, London tried to get rid of the traces of humiliation that had burned through her all night. After she’d uncomfortably excused herself, she’d heard him laughing the whole way through his yard and out of the gate.
As if he hadn’t embarrassed her enough, he’d laughed at her after totally setting her up. Forget the fact that she’d snuck into his yard. Forget the fact that every part of her had reacted to the man. Forget the fact the kissing had been amazing. Forget it all. He should have told her who he was in the beginning.
He had flat-out lied to her. He said he’d snuck in through the gate. Jerk!
Then he’d manipulated her into revealing her pain, probably some psychology tactic in mind control. After all, he’d written books on it. She’d stayed up late last night working on the article about the master of manipulation himself. Of course, she told the readers the funny story of how she snuck into his yard and how he got into the hot tub with her all the while concealing his identity, but in the end, he’d proven what he was.
A jerk.
A fake. He’d made her reveal everything and then took advantage of her.
Marcia was right. It was their duty to expose him. Deception was his master key. The relationship guru giving advice to all these people, preaching about upstanding character and high value, and then luring women in and wringing them out like a dishcloth.
To think London had told him about her nonprofit dreams while he just sat there and figured out how to psychologically analyze her. All night she’d shifted in her bed, hating that she’d actually fallen under his spell somehow.
None of the feelings had been real between them.
Professional relationship guru. Pshaw!
She’d even felt badly she’d lied about being a personal assistant when he’d lied about … about … what, exactly, was she the most upset about? Okay, maybe he hadn’t lied to her, but she’d felt tricked. And it’d brought up all the old feelings about Dillon and his manipulative tactics.
The only good that had come out of it was she had stayed up most of the night researching and writing a kick butt article on him. She knew Marcia would like it. She just needed a few more things to polish it off and she could send it.
She’d even sent off a few emails, contacting people from his past and asking some questions. Cooper Harrison wouldn’t know what hit him.
Rushing into the main hall, London saw most of the guests getting up from their breakfasts.
Since she wasn’t actually here to meet someone, London hadn’t bothered putting effort into how she looked. She’d barely thrown on her makeup before putting some gel in her hair and scrunching it up. Today was the kind of day she loved the cursed, curly hair she’d been blessed with. She could scrunch it and go. Getting to the breakfast table, she grabbed an apple, a power bar, and a bottle of water. She needed to focus on getting through the one-on-one in a pleasant way and getting more information.
His laughter from yesterday haunted her.
Stuffing the food into her laptop bag, she dug inside for her phone and then pulled up the itinerary.
Today there were two break out sessions, one with Cooper and one with another woman.
Pulling out her apple, she took a bite and yanked the hardback book out of her computer bag, glaring down at Cooper Harrison. In the picture, he wore a soft, white silky looking shirt, a pair of jeans and bare feet. The Teton Mountains loomed in the background, and he had a full beard. The beard had been the thing that had thrown her off. “You’re going down,” she muttered.

Only 99¢ The Stone Family Treasure
A man who lost everything. The woman who won’t believe in true love. Will they finally forgive themselves and find the gold?
★★★★★The exciting conclusion of the Stone Family Romances! From kindle all-star and USA Today author, Taylor Hart! The South Port Beach Series!
Hunter Stone, Navy SEAL didn’t want to wake up to the news that he’d lost … him. The person he’d been with for so long. And, he really didn’t want to hear that his family thought he was losing it. Because he was a SEAL and SEALs didn’t LOSE it!
Cheryse Skye didn’t need to be reminded that death was inevitable; she’d been running from that reality for three years, since her first husband’s death. Too bad losing one of her best friends triggered all of the memories. All the pain. All the … loss.
When Hunter wakes up a second time and discovers he’s lost an eye, it actually makes him feel better to bear a scar on the outside; it reminded him that nothing came without sacrifice. Too bad he gets discharged from the only thing keeping him going; the Navy.
Being back in South Port isn’t a fairytale, especially since he’s working at his brother’s bike shop and living with the other brother who is on him twenty-four, seven. It gets worse when he wrecks into the woman he’s always loved…and hurts her. Now he has to get his crap together or risk losing everything.
As clue after clue is revealed, will the Stone siblings be able to finally find the gold their parents always wanted them to have? And discover the gold they’ve always had within themselves?
As these six Stone siblings find a way back to each other, they must learn to let go of what doesn’t matter and cling to the things their parents always wanted for them--family, love, and fun memories on the beach.
**Excerpt:**
Trey sighed. “Hunter, you know you can’t be a SEAL without your eye. They won’t let you.”
He was done? This information shook him to his core. He glanced at Kensi, then Ava, then back to Trey. That must be why there was a tickertape parade here. They didn’t know how he would handle the news.
Kensi squeezed his hand. “It’s going to be okay, Hunter. We are here for you. You can have your eye prosthetic. They say you’ll look normal; you just won’t have vision. We’ll bring you back to South Port with us. Trey already has guys boxing up your house in Virginia Beach. It’s all gonna work out.”
His mind felt like a ping-pong ball. He tried to speak, but there was that dang cotton mouth. He remembered the same feeling from when he’d woken and Trey had told him about Trent.
As if anticipating what he would need, a nurse pushed a drink with a straw toward him. “Here, sir.”
Hunter drank the water, which tasted so good as it slid down his throat. Of course, every SEAL was prepared for a game-ending injury. Sometimes, like with Trent and his dad, it was bye-bye, time to check out. Now, it was … what the heck was it? What would he do with his life?
Ava patted his hand. “It’ll be so nice to have you in South Port. This all can work out.”
Hunter wasn’t stupid. Throughout the past year, he’d acted more like his brother Trent than himself. He’d been reckless, and he had purposefully taken on the hard assignments. Maybe he’d been trying to get himself killed.
He would’ve been angry that Trey hadn’t consulted him about boxing up the house and getting it sold, except he’d had the same idea a million times. He didn’t like being there. He didn’t like wading through all the memories of Trent.
Perhaps the only thing he had liked was a chance to be reckless. He’d liked going out there and doing what he needed to do without worrying that anyone cared about him. The work had saved him.
Of course, he thought of Cheryse. Dang her. They hadn’t spoken since that night.
She’d texted him that she was sorry she’d slapped him.
He’d texted her that he was sorry, too.
So there it was. He had lost Trent, then Cheryse. The last year of his life had been one of Dante’s circles of hell, a montage of recklessness and loneliness.
“Okay,” the doctor said, holding out a clipboard. “If I can just get you to sign these waivers, then we’ll get you back for the eye surgery. Believe me, son, no one will even know you ever had this eye injury. You’ll look like everyone else. When your good eye turns, the other eye will turn, and everyone will just think you’re like everyone else.”
The doctor’s grin broadened. He seemed a bit too perfect. He was one of those fancy doctors who was used to putting people’s bodies back together. A plastic doctor who was used to making every soldier look … normal.
Well, he wasn’t normal. Revulsion filled him at the idea that no one would know. There was no way he could cover the scars inside him. The idea that he would just be normal really pissed him off. “I’m not doing it.”
“What?” the doctor asked, still holding the clipboard.
“I’m not doing the surgery.”
Trey crossed his arms. “Hunter, you need to get the surgery to fix your eye. Don’t be afraid. It’s gonna be seamless for you.”
Hunter seethed. How could Trey even insinuate that he feared some procedure? “I’m not afraid,” he said, forcing himself to sit up and immediately regretting it. He hadn’t considered how dizzy it would make him. It must be the fact that he had been shot in the eye. He braced himself with his hands on the hospital bed.
“Son, just hold on now. Lie back down, and let’s talk about this,” the doctor said, dropping the clipboard and grabbing one of his shoulders.
Hunter ripped out the IV in his arm. He pushed himself off the bed, propping himself up with one hand. “Trey, get my clothes. I’m not having the surgery. I’m going home.”

**Excerpt from The Stone Family Haven – Included in this Collection!**
After a few minutes of willing her eyes to open, he found himself moving to her side. What was she doing sleeping in a park? Did she know the kind of riffraff she could run into around here?
Brooks glanced around. His FBI eyes memorized everything, roving over the guy in the corner of the park with a shopping cart and a guy by a tent next to the beach. He couldn’t see anyone else. He snapped back to her.
As if sensing that someone was there, her eyes flashed open and she jerked up. “What are you doing here?”
He didn’t back up, only crossed his arms. “No, the question is what are you doing here?”
She scooted back on the bench, a bag beneath her falling to the ground. “Go away.”
He bent to get it.
“No!” She fell on top of the bag and then scrambled to her feet, giving him a crazed look. “Get back or I swear, I’ll hurt you.”
Deep, ocean blue. The kind that reflected a perfect ocean day. Yes, his daydreams had paled in comparison to the real thing.
She waved her hand in front of his face. “Hello? Take a step back, please.”
Blip.
“Oh.” He obeyed, wondering how long he’d been creepily staring at her. “Sorry. I’m not a threat to you.”
“You’re not?” She stashed the plastic shopping bag into her bag and let out a sardonic laugh. “You’re hovering over me like some weirdo and you’re not a threat?”
Brooks noted it looked like there was a book inside the triple layered bag she was stuffing into her backpack.
“What are you looking at?” she asked, zipping her bag shut and then turning away from him as she tied the purple jacket around her waist.
“Nothing.” Whatever was in the triple layered bag was important to her. Or something she was hiding. Could it be the reason she was running? “I was only trying to warn you that it’s not smart to sleep at a park.”
She took off in the other direction, calling back, “Your warning is noted.”
He couldn’t help but follow her. “Wait.”
She glared at him and pivoted to walk toward the street. “Why are you following me?”
This was laughable, but he wanted to know some things about her. He kept pace with her. “Listen, if I were a threat to you, you’d already be dead.”
She stopped walking, her eyes sweeping up and down his body. “Why would you say that to me?”
He stopped, too, feeling out of sorts. He didn’t have on a T-shirt; only running shorts, socks, and shoes. He put his hands up. “Sorry. I’m not going to hurt you, but I am glad you’re treating me like I am.” He gestured to the park. “Not that you shouldn’t have been worried about threats long ago, like before you slept there.” She had a smudge of dirt on her cheek and her clothes were rumpled, but dang, she was gorgeous.
No. No. No. He couldn’t be thinking that.
She crossed her arms. “Why are you following me?”
His mouth was dry, which was uncommon for him. “I’m not following you. Listen, the realquestion is, what are youdoing sleeping in a park?” She was too old to be a runaway. The shadows around her eyes told him she was older than he’d first thought. Mid- to late-twenties, if he had to guess.
“I don’t have to answer to you. You’re the one hovering over me, telling me if you wanted me dead, I’d already be dead.”
Her words hit a nerve. He put a hand up. “I was concerned for you. I’m sorry if I hovered. I wouldn’t have killed you.” If she knew him, she would know how stupid that sounded.
“So you have killed people?”
Crap. He ran a hand through his hair and turned away from her. Maybe this was just … stupid. The only thing that kept him here was the voice he’d heard minutes ago. “Let’s not talk about that.”
“You think you get to decide what we talk about when you wake me up and talk about killing me?”
He whirled back to face her. “I wasn’t talking about killing you. I said, if I wanted you dead, you’d be dead. Big difference.” He reminded himself she was a civilian, not a military person or a Stone sibling. “Sorry.”
She stared at him. “You don’t scare me.”
Brooks didn’t comment on the fact that she was indeed scared. “Look, do you know what could have happened to you sleeping in the park?” Out of nowhere, photos of the women who’d been killed by Evans appeared in his memory.
“I’m fine.” She walked past him toward the ocean side of the park. “And by the way, you’re theonly threat to me.”
“Me?” He followed her. Maybe he was overreacting. Actually—no, he wasn’t. “You could have gotten hurt by someone. Believe me, there are people way worse than me around here.”
“But I didn’t get hurt.”
“Why are you sleeping in a park?”
She paused. “None of your business, weirdo.”
He grunted out an exasperated laugh. “I’m a weirdo?”
Again, she walked toward the beach. “Your word, not mine.”
He hesitated, then followed her. “Actually, I think you used the word first.”
She rolled her eyes. “The point is that you should go away. Mind your own business.”
Pestering someone was not his usual style. He felt compelled to help her. There was some kind of connection from earlier. A connection he couldn’t put his finger on. Not just a physical connection, though that was undeniable for him. “Do you need money? Food?”
She stopped long enough to put out her hand. “If you’re offering money? Sure.”
“Oh.” He never brought money with him. “I actually don’t have money”
“Of course you don’t. Just go away.”
He watched her hurrying away, feeling helpless. The same way he’d felt when the blood had oozed from Agent Mac’s chest.
Anger surged inside him, pushing him to take off back to the park and then through town. It was a good thing she didn’t want his help. He couldn’t help anyone anyway.

After a few minutes of willing her eyes to open, he found himself moving to her side. What was she doing sleeping in a park? Did she know the kind of riffraff she could run into around here?

Levi Jackson, ex-Navy SEAL is only back in Haven to build a house, then profit and reinvest the money in his dream project in Alaska. A dream project that will land him on easy street. He deserves easy street after losing his wife to cancer five years ago and recently getting shot.
When his mother guilt trips him into going on a blind date, he never imagined that the woman he'd be going with would be the woman who broke his heart twenty years ago. The chemistry between them surprises him and he doesn't know if it started when she slipped onto the back of his motorcycle for the blind date or when he 'accidentally' kissed her the next day. The only thing he knows is that this whole thing means nothing. Nothing at all.
As truths from the past get revealed, both of them will have to make a choice; open their hearts to love again or let the lies of the past destroy what could have been the best blind date ever!
