SPECIAL EDITION – CHRISTMAS SABBATICAL
I’m on holiday for the month of December, and that means Robin’s Nest is on holiday as well.
Because Robin needs a break and in honor of the holiday, December is officially my time to regroup, and redirect for the upcoming year.

FRONT PORCH FELLOWSHIP – WHY AM I STILL FIGHTING?
“You’re nothing but a failure.”
The impact of those words was an awakening. A turning point. The words had never been spoken, not explicitly anyway, but I lived with that perception most of my life.
Holy Spirit, in the gentle manner that only He can do, has brought me through agony to know I am NOT a failure. He has shown me I’m a shining star.
So why do I still fight to be worthy? Why do I still yearn for promises He had already fulfilled? This is where I get really vulnerable—I want to be married. I want a husband, I don’t like being alone—I want to be loved and cherished. There’s so many things I need, and yes, want. And yet I “make the best” without, I get by “until…” My stove only half works and it’s been that way for over a year! Who.does.that??? Who lives like that?? I need a car. I need a new bed. I need… the list is long and it’s not extravagant. I want to travel, and that’s not unreasonable. I want to not be tired all the time. And that’s not unreasonable. And part of me feels like I have to “work harder” to deserve it.
SO.NOT.TRUE.
So what is a girl to do?
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! Psalm 46:10
So, rest then. No fighting. No striving. No begging or trying to convince God to do me some little favor.
God doesn’t do favors. He blesses. He gives from His own very nature, from the love that is his very essence.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. James 1:17
I don’t have to fight or strive to win or earn the good will of God. Lack is not His will. Loneliness is not His will. Failure is not His will.
He gave us the greatest gift of all in His Son. That doesn’t mean He’s done giving. That doesn’t mean that asking for the desire of our heart is ingratitude for the gift of salvation.
Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
We walk in communion with Him, we walk in relationship with Him. We seek to please Him and honor Him. He gave the greatest gift when we didn’t even know Him…
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
… how much more will He pour upon us when we’re in fellowship with Him?
So why am I still fighting? Because this truth that I’ve just shared still hasn’t trickled all the way in my head. Because in the waiting, my mind veers off and listens to lies. Lies that tell me I have to “do better,” “try harder,” and push myself til i.just.can’t.
But lies are lies, and Truth is Truth. And the way to silence the lies of the enemy is with the Truth. And sometimes fellowship and the heart of those who love us.
SO TODAY, 17 DECEMBER 2017, I, ROBIN E. MASON, DECLARE I’M NOT FIGHTING ANYMORE. I DECLARE WHAT FATHER GOD DECLARES OVER ME, AND I SPEAK THE TRUTH OF HIS WORD. HIS WORD THAT SAYS HEALING IS MINE, HIS WORD THAT SAYS ABUNDANCE IS MINE. HIS WORD THAT SAYS HOPE DEFERRED MAKES THE HEART SICK—AND HIS WORD THAT SAYS HE IS MY HOPE.
I’m done fighting. I’m resting. And I’m letting go and leaving it in Father’s hands.

Today is that day.
I.just.don’t.feel.like.it.
One of those days when everything overwhelms me and everything crashes in. Hope deferred and my flesh wonders if it will ever happen. And there’s more than one ‘it.’
My spirit man, however, knows the Truth. And my spirit man relies on the One who sustains me. Even when I don’t feel it. Even when I just don’t feel like it.
‘Cause that’s what He is, faithful. Even when we’re not.

THE BLURB:
Japan, 1587. Sen must find a husband to marry into her family’s swordsmith business. She seeks a Christian husband, though Christianity is banned.
Enter Nobuhiro. Third son of a high-level samurai, Nobuhiro fled his harsh father and apprenticed himself to a swordsmith. He yearns to prove his worth.
They seem an ideal match. But for Sen, the choice is faith or family. For Nobuhiro, choosing a Christian ends any reconciliation with his family. Can love be forged from the impossible?

Haibara, Japan—August 1587 “By order of the regent, Christianity has been banned from the nation.”
MY THOUGHTS:
I’ve a new found fascination with Japanese culture, and combined with my love of historical fiction, this story is a winner. The writing seems a little weak in places but not so much to put it down.
