Armed with a New Year’s resolution and a surly attitude toward physical fitness, Erica Sutton hires a personal trainer to whip her pudgy self into shape. What she hadn’t bargained for was Zack Sharp - the owner of Workout World - assigning himself to be her workout nazi.

An obsessed ex-lover of Zack’s notices the attention he is paying Erica and sets out to remove the competition by any means possible.

Now, Erica and Zack are holed up, debating the merits of donuts, sex, and love while their crazy stalker sets out to light their world, quite literally, on fire. It’s a race against time to find their assailant before the relationship they’ve started to build is burnt to the ground.

Erica Sutton is determined to get in shape though she abhors exercising. New Year’s day she goes to Workout World that is run by her old high school crush Zack Sharp. He ends up being her personal trainer and wants to spend time with her. A stalker he didn’t know that he had started attacking Erica and burns her house down. Until they figure out whats going on Erica stays with Zack were the flames of the stalker is not the only thing heating up. It’s an uphill battle to get Erica healthy while keeping her safe from the stalker’s clutches.

In an Oyster Shell – It had some pacing issues and technical flaws but had an overall good storyline and lovable characters that made for a good story.

The Pearls – My favorite part of this book was that Erica was a writer. As a growing author myself, I felt like the writer put some valuable nuggets about writing that I could glean from. I love the irony when an author writes about a writer. It’s fun and you have to wonder how much of it is a little bit of a caricature of their own life.

The suspense was good. The action was fairly constant. I liked that even though the world was literally burning around them they have a good chance to build a relationship with Zack and his son. The conflict didn’t stop the relationship building. If anything it made it stronger.

The romance was steamy. Zack and Erica made for a fun couple. Even though Zack was a trainer he was fair in how he dealt with Erica. I loved his open acceptance of her that made for a loving relationship.

The Sand – The pacing was really off.

Torte―the beloved small-town bakeshop run by Jules Capshaw―is set to hit the stage. But who would have guessed that murder would makes a surprise appearance?

It’s the role of a lifetime for Jules. The Shakespeare Festival has returned to Ashland, Oregon, for the season and Torte has been cast as the supplier of Elizabethan-era treats for the main event. But on the eve of opening night, a brawl between Jules’s friend Lance, the artistic director, and a strapping young thespian named Anthony almost brings down the house. . .and the next morning, Anthony is dead. Jules knows that Lance loves his drama―and his just desserts―but she also knows that murder is way off-script for him. Now it’s up to Jules to cut through a bevy of backstage betrayals and catty co-stars who all have their own secrets―before the curtain drops on someone else. . .

Jules is back in Ashland gearing up for the new theatre season. She’s worried about her dear friend Lance who seems to be falling apart at the seams. He is certain that a certain actor is turning the board against him. Things get turned upside down when that actor turns up dead and Lance is the leading suspect. Jules has to find out who the true killer is so she can get Lance off the hook. She does her usually sleuthing while creating tasty treats in Torte.

In an Oyster Shell – It was an amazing installment of the bakeshop mystery series featuring my favorite character Lance.

The Pearls –  Lance is the star of the show in this book. He is my favorite character. His over the top theatrics always make for an entertaining story. That Lance gets the vital roles in this story was really appropriate and a real treat.

Jules is coming into her own even more. There was less focus on the romance. A little hint of it to keep it interesting. I really liked this story that Lance and Jules’s friendship was the showcased relationship.

The mystery was good. I am amazed that Alexandar creates an intriguing mystery over and over again. It will keep you on your toes with tasty tidbits along the way.

The Sand –  It was a really good book, can’t wait for the next one!

London is never the same after the boisterous Farthingales move into their townhouse on Chipping Way, one of the loveliest streets in fashionable Mayfair. With five beautiful daughters in residence, the street soon becomes known as a deathtrap for bachelors.

Ewan Cameron, estranged grandson of the Duke of Lotheil, is in London because of a deathbed promise made to his father and has no intention of staying beyond his three month obligation. Nothing can tempt him to remain, not even Lily, the beautiful bluestocking determined not only to restore relations between him and his grandfather, but to turn Ewan into a proper gentleman. Ewan, proud of his Scottish heritage, refuses to admit that Lily, a blue-eyed, English girl, has claimed his heart. It doesn’t matter that his big lump of a sheepdog is madly in love with her. Nor is it significant that Ewan can always tell Lily apart from her identical twin sister. Always.

Lily Farthingale, the scholarly twin, dreams of becoming the first female member of the Royal Society. She grabs at the chance when the elderly Duke of Lotheil approaches her with a proposition—he’ll admit her into the Royal Society, if she helps him to establish a relation with his estranged grandson, Ewan Cameron, a very rough-around-the-edges Scotsman who hates everything English. Between shootings, explosions, and Lily’s abduction, Ewan ends up falling in love with Lily in this Pygmalion-inspired story.

Ewan Cameron is in London to fulfill a deathbed promise to his father to live with his grandfather Duke of Lotheil. He has no intention of getting involved with any of the gently bred ladies. He is going back to Scotland in three months time at the end of his agreed-upon stay. Lily Farthingale is focused on getting into the Royal Society intending to be the first female to do so. The Duke of Lotheil who is the head decides to use that to his advantage to socialize Ewan. Neither Ewan and Lily have plans to fall for each other.

In an Oyster Shell –  It was a little slow for my taste and didn’t keep my interest as much as I would have liked.

The Pearls – I love a good Regency. This had all the makings of a good one. It had society dukes and ladies. I always love the descriptions of the dresses and food. This book had it all.

The characters are interesting. Ewan was a fun character because he was a stubborn Scot. Lily was ahead of her time with her scholarly knowledge and ambition. It worked well in this story. There was some fun supporting characters.

The romance was sweet. The two characters made for an interesting mix. Ewan’s resistance made a good story.

The Sand – The pacing was slow and it was hard to stay interested in the story. It was not my favorite Regency.

Fairy tales are simply tales, told and re-told, but changed over time.

It has been four months since Maggie learned the dark truth behind the tale of the Princess and the Pea and freed Princess Lindy from the cursed Emerald. Lindy is now back in the past where she belongs, queen of her tiny Scandinavian country, and Maggie is a fully reformed ex-stalker.

Except … she can’t stop doing internet searches on Lindy and her country.

One morning, Maggie wakes to find history turned on its head. Apparently, you can’t destroy a centuries-old curse without consequence. In order to prevent the changes in history from wiping out the present, Maggie resurrects her stalking gene and learns that fairy tales don’t stay dead for long.

Or at all.

Back in 1623, Lindy is juggling a threat to her family, a handsome new guard she’s not supposed to have feelings for, and a cursed Topaz with ties to the tale of Thumbelina. When past and present collide, Lindy and Maggie are brought together again, and another of Andersen’s tales turns from twisted fiction to chilling fact.

Maggie is back in present time with Lindy in the past. Maggie is constantly checking history on Lindy when one day she finds it changed. She is alarmed and Lindy’s brother goes back to find out what is going on. Turns out there is another altered stone that is changing history. Maggie and her brother go to another country to investigate what is going on. They find something there they never expected. They are then sucked into another time to help turn history back to the way it should be and save their family from a wretched curse.

In an Oyster Shell – A satisfying sequel to Emerald Bound.

The Pearls – This is a great series that is imaginative and well done. It would help to read the first book as there is a lot of references to it but not a lot of explanation. I would not recommend it as a stand-alone but both books are really great so its worth it!

The characters are distinctive and well-developed. Maggie is a strong heroine. There is a vast cast of characters but they all stand strong on their own and there is no confusion. I really liked Maggie’s brother he was a supporting character but he added so much depth. Other supporting characters did the same.

There was a smattering of romance interwoven in the story which I really liked. I feel the choices that the author made with one of the romances was really bold and refreshing. The ending was imaginative.

The Sand – The ending got a little philosophical it wasn’t my favorite but it wasn’t bad either. It’s just personal preference.

Sofia Capri survived life as a mob wife, but living with drop-dead gorgeous FBI agent Logan Stone has its own challenges. Step one? Host his family for Christmas dinner.

Rescuing Sofia from her former mob life and saving her kidnapped son was enough to earn Logan a place in her life, but a mysterious phone call before dinner threatens the security he'd give anything to provide.

When Sofia's son and Logan's nieces disappear from the festivities, the illusion of a normal Christmas shatters, hurling Sofia back into her nightmares.

In an Oyster Shell –  A short novella that gives you a peek into the stories of the characters in the series.

The Pearls –  A Christmas romantic suspense is a unique genre that I thoroughly enjoyed. The suspense in this story kept you on your toes.

The characters were well established. It helps that there was a lot of backstories. Logan was stoic but full of romance for Sofia. Sofia was a little skittish but Logan worked hard to break through her defenses. It made for a great story.

The romance was firey. There was some hesitancy on Sofia’s part but it had a satisfying ending in the long run.

The Sand – Sofia was a bit off-putting at times.

About Cindy Skaggs

Cindy Skaggs started gambling because she needed a quick financial turnaround for an investment opportunity, and her father was right there to pony up the bankroll. She learned valuable lessons that night in betting, bluffing, and folding, until she’d turned a dollar in nickels into some serious money: twelve dollars for a middle school yearbook.

Cindy grew up on stories of mob bosses, horse thieves, cold-blooded killers, and the last honest man. Most of those stories were even true. She has ten siblings, some of whom are older than her mother, has nieces and nephews older than her, and once went to a horse auction with John Wayne. Well, with him in the sense that he was there, and she was also… there. She was the munchkin in line for his autograph with tangled hair and bruised knees that liked to dance on her daddy’s dusty cowboy boots and listen to his tall tales.

With her love of storytelling and heroes, it’s no wonder she turned to books and stories after her father died. She skipped most of the eighth grade to bury herself in books while hidden in her closet, because she was still looking for the perfect story and the last honest man. Her search took her around the world with the Air Force as well as around the world with her education. She’s visited more countries than she can remember, nearly every state in the U.S., and has more degrees than the Tin Man.

As a single mom, she’s still gambling, betting on herself for the first time in her life, turning her lifelong love of storytelling into the one thing she can’t live without: writing. She writes 10,000 words a week in cafes and coffee shops, and some of those 10,000 words are even worth reading. She has an MA in Creative Writing, is working towards her Master of Fine Arts, and has three jobs, two kids, a Pushcart Nomination, more pets than she can possibly handle, and more works in progress than the crew filling potholes after a long Colorado winter.

Facebook is her guilty pleasure, the Twitterverse her happy place, and her blog the one place she’s not telling stories (fictional, anyway). This time around, she’s holding out for the last honest man.

Blog Tour with Review – Nights at Seaside by Addison Cole

NEW RELEASE…

Sweet with Heat: Seaside Summers features a group of fun, flirty, and emotional friends who gather each summer at their Cape Cod cottages. They’re sassy, flawed, and so easy to relate to, you’ll be begging to enter their circle of friends! All books can be read as stand-alone novels.

Nights at Seaside by Addison Cole is the sweet edition of New York Times bestselling author Melissa Foster’s steamy romance novel Seaside Nights. The stories and characters remain the same and convey all of the passion you expect between two people in love, without any explicit scenes or harsh language.

In NIGHTS at SEASIDE…

Sky Lacroux has finally realized her dream and opened her own tattoo shop in Provincetown, Massachusetts. She’s happy as can be, preparing the shop for its grand opening and renting a cottage in the Seaside community while renovations to her new apartment are being completed. The only thing missing is the one thing she longs for, and has no control over—love.

Sawyer Bass, a professional boxer, plays his guitar at a local bar to escape the painful reality of his father’s deteriorating health and a recent health warning of his own. But when he spots a stunning brunette across the room, escaping reality goes out the window, and the beautiful woman becomes the focus of his next song—and maybe even the rest of his life.

When Sawyer walks into Sky’s tattoo shop and sees the woman from the bar—Sky—the chemistry between them is instant. Sawyer is everything Sky could ever hope for in a man. He’s honest, loving, sensitive, and potently virile—but boxing goes against everything Sky believes in. The closer they become, the more she realizes that her alpha boxer is waging his own emotional battle—only the battle she thinks he’s waging isn’t the one that threatens to tear them apart.

Review –

In an Oyster Shell – It was an okay addition to the series this had a more instantaneous love than the other books had.

The Pearls – I love this series you get all the stories with none of the explicit scenes. I am so glad that Addison Cole is doing a sweet addition to these books. It means I don’t have to miss out on the great stories.

The strongest component this series has going for them is the characters. Sky has been in the other books so it was fun to see her story. Each character is distinctive and has quirks and qualities that set them apart from the rest of the group. That the author can create so many characters like that is truly a work of talent.

I liked the conflict of putting a peace-loving person together with the boxer. I loved that Sky and Sawyer had to make compromises to be together. It made for an interesting read.

The Sand –  The romance was a little more rushed in this story than it was in the others. It was a little too quick for my taste.

Review – Secret Santa Baby by Robin Covington

Review – Secret Santa Baby by Robin CovingtonSecret Santa Baby by Robin Covington

Goodreads

Tessa Stoneman hasn’t been able to get long-time friend and business partner Nicholas Boone out of her head since they shared a single kiss in college. Even when she dated Nicholas’s best friend. Now that she’s giving up her position at GameNerdz to strike out on her own—and now that she’s single—maybe it’s the right time to see if there’s still something between them.

Nicholas knows once Tessa leaves the company she helped found, they might drift apart. Before she starts her own company in the new year, he wants to woo the woman he fell in love with during college. So he poses as her Secret Santa, gifts her with items from the song “Santa Baby,” and plans a big reveal at the company holiday party. But when his best friend wants to rekindle his romance with Tessa, will Nicholas lose his last chance?

Tessa Stoneman is leaving the company she helped start. She is hoping this Christmas she will be able to reveal her feelings for Nick that she has been harboring since college. Little does she know that Nick rigged the office Secret Santa so he would get her and dazzle her with presents from the song Santa Baby. He plans on revealing himself at the Christmas party until his best friend declares he still has feelings for Tessa. Nick is worried it won’t be the Christmas for declaring his feelings after all.

In an Oyster Shell – A little steamy novella that will get you in the holiday spirit.

The Pearls – I loved the theme of the book that was centered around the song Santa Baby. The meaning behind it was poetic.

The Characters were well defined which is hard to do with such a short amount of story.

The romance was sweet and tantalizing. I really liked Nick pursuing Tessa even though she did not know it at first. It was a really great love story! It was fulfilling even if it was on the short side.

Her grandfather, a retired army colonel, drives her to a resort in Maine where she can heal in peace while the authorities track down the man who almost killed her. To Lanie’s dismay, he hires a bodyguard to protect her. Lanie’s nightmares are debilitating, but giving up control of her life is unacceptable.

Former Army Ranger Matt Saunders knows all about nightmares. He’s spent the last year recovering from an injury he sustained during his last tour and the hellish events that caused it. Anxious to prove that he is fit to go back overseas, he accepts the bodyguard job. The resort is everything they imagined – tranquil, safe, and a place to heal. Gradually, they open up to each other and realize they have a lot in common – except their future plans. When a resort video goes viral, Lanie’s stalker knows just where to find her.

In an Oyster Shell – An amazing romance that was perfect. I wish there was more like this one!

The Pearls – I love that this is a clean romance. Clean doesn’t mean there are not some sparks. It’s just handled well that makes for an intruiging read that makes me want to go back for more. I loved this romance and will continue to support this author in her continuation of the series.

The retreat that they find themselves at is sweet and makes for a great setting. I love the details the author puts in like the sassy mugs that have unforgettable sayings. The retreat center offers a lot of different activities that puts characters in situations where they shine.

The characters made this story a page turner. Lanie and Matt were both haunted and broken and how they help each other through their respective traumas made for a great story. I really liked this book!

The Sand –  It was near perfect!

About the Author

Kerry Evelyn has always been fascinated by people and the backstories that drive them to do what they do. She graduated from Bridgewater State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and Sociology. A native of the Massachusetts South Coast, she taught in an inner city elementary school before moving to Florida to teach in a rural setting, and then in her own neighborhood. Fast forward a few years, and she’s now a crazy blessed wife and homeschooling mom to the two sweetest kids you’ll ever meet (she’s also super biased). When she’s not homeschooling or writing, she’s mentoring moms through Mom Mastery University, sharing essential oils, and planning super fun events for her kids and their friends (although her own kids have yet to be impressed, being that every event has some sort of learning snuck in to it). She loves God, books of all kinds, traveling, taking selfies, and escaping into her imagination, where every child is happy and healthy, every house has a library, and her hubby wears coattails and a top hat 24/7.

Series Prequel

The Taylor Twelve. Sons of a preacher but far from saints, these men are nothing but trouble.

Tarnished Saints' Christmas is an introduction to each of the twelve Taylor men when they were children. Told by the eldest son, Thomas, the author lets the reader into their lives one memorable Christmas. Each chapter is devoted to one of the brothers to show the trouble they caused in their earlier days which carries into their present lives as well, therefore giving them the title of Tarnished Saints.

The story is approximately 15,000 words followed by excerpts from some of the Tarnished Saints books.

This is a twelve book series. Five of the books are now available with the next one coming this fall. Watch for another of the brothers' stories to be released every few months. Be sure to see the book trailer on the author's amazon page or website at http://elizabethrosenovels.com, where you can also read excerpts or see sneak peeks of the upcoming covers.

The twelve brothers of the Tainted Saints series make an appearance in this Christmas story. Each chapter has an expose of each of the characters in their childhood. They are up to no good in this Christmas tale. Each brother has their own troubles they bring to the table.

In an Oyster Shell –A small taste of what to expect in the Tainted Saints Series.

The Pearls –  This was a fun little novella that introduced me to the tainted saints. It makes me want to continue on with the series. The boys were up to no good I can just imagine the trouble they will get into as adults.

I liked that the book ended with a chapter from each coming book. It made me really want to read the series. I love the idea of the tainted saints.

The shining moment of this tale was the family getting together at Christmas. It was heart-warming.

The Sand –  It was a nice sample.

ARC Review – One Christmas Kiss in Notting Hill by Mandy Baggot

ARC Review – One Christmas Kiss in Notting Hill by Mandy BaggotOne Christmas Kiss in Notting Hill: A feel-good, heartwarming Christmas romance by Mandy Baggot

Isla Winters loves Christmas – especially the parties! Prosecco-infused everything is her ideal start to the busy festive season, and she can’t wait to wow her contacts in international construction throughout the month of December. But everything changes when she’s given a new remit: right-hand girl to the head of the New York branch.

Chase Bryan’s marriage has fallen apart. Given a secret project, he moves to London for the holidays with his two young daughters, hoping to dive in and ignore the distractions of Christmas. Problem is, he’s been saddled with Little Miss Candy Cane.

Isla’s wheelchair-bound sister, Hannah, lives life to the max. Isla’s unofficial second job is to keep her sister from trying to take over the world – but what will happen when Hannah starts to pay attention to Isla’s love life? One moment in Notting Hill could change everything…

Join Isla and Chase in a sparkly, festive London, where a little winter magic is just around the corner.

Isla Winters loves that she plans her company’s Christmas party every year. Everyone is anticipating what the theme will be. She is expecting to have a busy Christmas this year not expecting she is going to have to play go to girl with an American colleague. Chase Bryan is in London to start a new project for the company. He does not expect to be blown away by Isla and all her Christmas Charm. They enjoy the holidays with Chase’s two daughters. Isla does not know that Chase is there to compromise everything she holds dear in Notting Hill.

In an Oyster Shell – A romantic story with a nice side of heat that will leave you feeling warm this holiday season.

The Pearls –  What drew me to this story was the setting of Notting Hill. Notting Hill is one of my favorite movies so reading a book set there was an ideal match for me. I was not disappointed.

The characters were vibrant and compelling. Hannah was a bright character who was often a catalyst for Isla to move and pursue the more exciting things in life. Chase was a great love interest who was intriguing with what he brought to the table.

I love the contrast the author uses of Chase the American and Isla with her British roots. It made for an exotic romance that was a little bit steamy. It was a sweet romance that had a satisfying ending.

The Sand – It was a good book.
