Cecily has always had a huge crush on singer Andrew Holiday and she wants to be an actress, so she tags along when her friend auditions for his new video. However, the director isn’t looking for an actress, but rather the girl next door—and so is Andrew. Cecily gets a part in the video and all of Andrew’s attention on the set. Her friend begins to see red and Cecily’s boyfriend is seeing green—as in major jealousy. A misunderstanding leaves Cecily and her boyfriend on the outs and Andrew hopes to pick up the pieces as he’s looking for someone more stable in his life than the models he’s dated. Soon Cecily begins to realize Andrew understands her more than her small-town boyfriend—but can her perfect love match really be her favorite rock star?

Life is good Cecily is dating her first boyfriend she is making friends after her best friend moved. She’s had a crush on pop star Andrew Holiday for as long as she could remember. She is thrilled when her friend asks her to come along to a filming of his newest music video. Everyone is surprised when she is asked to be an extra on the film. Turns out her girl next door look is exactly what the director was looking for and just so happens so was Andrew. As Andrew and Cecily grow close things don’t look so perfect anymore in her world.

In an Oyster Shell –  It was a really good book I was a little less than satisfied with the ending but this will be a must-read series.

The Pearls – I was enthralled with the concept of a girl’s favorite pop star coming into her life to become something more. Most teenage girls I know of develop a crush on a pop star or two. This book is perfect in bringing to fruition the imagination of millions. The book was really well done.

The characters were great. What I really liked about this book is the characters acted their age. Sometimes when reading a YA the young characters have a little more freedom than what is realistic. Not so in this story.

The romance was sweet. It was a nice push and pull from small-town comfortable romance to a possible Hollywood romance.

The Sand –  I wasn’t happy with the ending. I feel like Andrew’s character took an unexpected turn. It’s not bad there is plenty of room for it to be worked out in the next book. Which I am eagerly waiting for.

Review –

In an Oyster Shell – It was a near perfect story Dorthoy St. James has an amazing grasp on weaving an intricate storyline not only for this book but for the series.

The Pearls – I fell in love with this series with the first book. I was even more pleased with the second book. Who can resist a story that has a lot to do about chocolate? I can’t. I love this small town business that is run by Penn with many adventures to be had.

The characters practically dance off the page. Penn is a strong character almost like an outsider learning to fit in. The town folk graciously take her in as one of their own. I love Bertie and Alethea they are great supporting characters that stand on their own. There are many more characters I was thrilled that Tina, Penn’s sister made an appearance.

I’m still reeling from the mysteries this book presented. There is a severe plot twist that I did not see coming that I look forward to reading more about in the series to come. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. There were a few mysteries that needed to be tied up and it was done well.

This book has really made an impression on me. It’s getting harder and harder to find books as well done as this one.

The Sand –  It was a really good book!

About the Author

Mystery author Dorothy St. James was born in New York but raised in South Carolina. She makes her home on an artsy island community in South Carolina with her husband, a neurotic dog, and fluffy cat. Though writing has always been a passion for her, she pursued an undergraduate degree in Wildlife Biology and a graduate degree in Public Administration and Urban Planning. She put her educational experience to use, having worked in all branches and all levels of government including local, regional, state, and federal. She even spent time during college working for a non-profit environmental watchdog organization.

Switching from government service and community planning to fiction writing wasn’t as big of a change as some might think. Her government work was all about the stories of the people and the places where they live. As an urban planner, Dorothy loved telling the stories of the people she met. And from that, her desire to tell the tales that were so alive in her heart grew until she could not ignore it any longer. In 2001, she took a leap of faith and pursued her dream of writing fiction full-time.

Known for the White House Gardener Mystery series, Dorothy is going back to her roots and setting a mystery series in a Southern beach town much like the one she’s called home for the past 20 years. The Southern Chocolate Shop Mysteries combine her love of fine chocolates, quirky Southern charm, with a dash of danger.

* Dorothy St. James is the alter-ego of the award-winning multi-published author, Dorothy McFalls. She enjoys writing in several different genres. Her works have been nominated for many awards including Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Award, Reviewers International Organization Award, National Reader’s Choice Award, CataRomance Reviewers’ Choice Award, and The Romance Reviews Today Perfect 10! Award. Reviewers have called her work: “amazing”, “perfect”, “filled with emotion”, and “lined with danger.”

Friday Coffee and Bookish Speaks – The insatiable beast that is a blog

It’s been a while. I’m drinking a freshly roasted coffee from Costa Rica with a little cream. What are you drinking?

I must apologize for a long time now I have been doing the bare minimum for this blog. I haven’t done a discussion in a long time. I think I am getting really burned out on this blog but I am hoping to work through it.

I heard someone say once that a blog is an insatiable beast that constantly has to be fed. It is so true. To have a successful blog you have to keep fresh content coming and coming. If you slack your numbers go down quickly.

I feel like I am juggling so many plates in the air that some have dropped. Unfortunately, the blog has suffered a bit. I keep doing it because I have worked so hard to get Writing Pearls to where it is today. I can’t let go of that momentum I have built.

I have gotten back into doing my own writing again. I am working on getting some more books out. I recently republished my first book Wake of 30. Though I’ve been idle here I’ve been very busy to bring you even better content that you can safely tuck away on your bookshelf.

Please be patient with me as I work out a balance. I will figure this out and I will keep Writing Pearls going.

If you have a blog? Do you feel like it’s hard to keep up sometimes?

In Celebration of the relaunch of my book, I’m giving away a free signed copy.

The Italian Job meets Bourne Identity meets Spy Kids in this sequel to Proof of Lies.

What if saving yourself meant destroying everyone you love?

Still reeling from everything she learned while searching for her sister in Italy, Anastasia Phoenix is ready to call it quits with spies. Then she and her friends learn that Marcus’s—her kinda boyfriend—brother, Antonio, has also gone missing. Luckily, they track down Antonio in a fiery festival in England, only to learn he has been working for the enemy, Department D, the whole time. But Antonio wants out. And so does Anastasia.

But before any of them can leave espionage and their parents’ crimes behind them, a close friend turns up dead. No one is safe, not while Department D still exists. So Anastasia and her friends embark on a dangerous plan to bring down an entire criminal empire, using every Dresden Kid they can find.

As their world becomes surrounded by spies, and the children of spies, Anastasia starts to question who she can really trust. Including her best friends…

Anastasia got her sister back and she’s ready to run away and start a new life with her. Plans are derailed when her companion Marcus’s brother goes missing. She’s drawn back into the tangled web of being a Dreden Kid. Her and her small of group of friends hatch a plan to take them down once and for all. It becomes more difficult when what they thought was the truth is not reality at all.

In an Oyster Shell – A riveting addition to the Anastasia Phoenix series. I am looking forward to the next book.

The Pearls – I love this concept of spy kids cleaning up the messes of their corrupt parents. It will pull at your emotions it’s a little sad at times but very interesting. The premise is good and well executed.

The characters practically jump off the pages. There are quite a few characters but you know who is who and it does not get confusing. The author does a fantastic job of making the characters distinctive and interesting enough you find yourself rapidly turning the pages.

The suspense was intense and I really liked it. Usually, this is where I talk about the romance of the book but I feel the suspense was more prominent. There were lots of twists and turns. It was hard to figure out what was going to happen I like being consistently surprised.

The Sand – Anastasia was rigid at times in the future I would like to see her be a little more malleable.

When tragedy leaves two babies in Kay Donovan’s care, she reaches out to her friend William for help. By the time she stumbles her way through the grief and day-to-day survival, William has become a significant part of their lives. Untangling the connection would be far more difficult for everyone than becoming a real family. But isn’t marrying someone because it’s convenient rather old-fashioned? Kay doesn’t think so. The problem is she’s in love with William, and that’s a little inconvenient when discussing marriage like a business deal.

William had been biding his time in the friend zone. All romantic hopes are put aside when Kay faces one trial after another. Until Kay suggests that their friendship might be enough to make them a family. He’d love to marry her, but can it work if she’s only trying to do what’s best for the kids?

Kay Donovan is in the midst of tragedy. She has just gotten custody of her two nephews that have recently lost their parents. The first person she calls is her friend William. He stands by and helps her with whatever she needs. She starting to see that they are the makings of a family. What she doesn’t want to admit is that it would be more than a marriage of convenience for them she is in love with him. William has been waiting in the friend zone for a long time for something more.

In an Oyster Shell – It is an expertly crafted story that will touch many emotions.

The Pearls – It was a story born of tragedy that which blown was soften by the beautiful friendship that Kay and William share. It’s the premise of the whole story and it was a really good one. The concept is good and well executed.

The family dynamics in this story are heartwarming. Kay and William with the boys make a great family. There is also William’s sister and her family. The story is family oriented and I love it.

The romance was sweet. William waited a long time to be more than a friend to Kay. The feelings grew as the helped each other raise the boys. It is one of the best romances that I have read.

The Sand – It was a good story.

About Amanda Hamm

Amanda Hamm has released more than twenty books in various genres. She uses a pen name for some of her books. She has her reasons.

Most of the works under Amanda’s real name – if that is her real name – are love stories featuring Christian characters.

Two of her childrens’ books, Beyond Wisherton and Back to Wisherton, were released without creating another pen name because Amanda’s own children are very proud of their influence, particularly the fact that the books contain “absolutely no mushy stuff.” Unfortunately for them, she’s gone back to her romance roots with the latest book, released in January.

Wealth has a price. Everyone wants something from you. For one woman, that something was my DNA. One minute, she was kissing me like we were going to strip it down and goat it. And the next, she was ripping out my hair for a paternity test—andthreatening to torpedo my latest deal. I don't play these kind of games. And that damnably sexy woman with the alluring eyes and mistaken agenda is about to learn that the hard way…

Millionaire scion Jagger Hamilton didn't father Kennedy Price's nephew. That doesn't mean he can't use the situation to his advantage. She wantshim to take a paternity test. He wants her in his bed.

He shouldn't.

She's blackmailing him, and she's playing dirty. He could try to use thefamous Hamilton charm to turn her into a powerful ally… But she makes him feel… Way. Too. Much.

Kennedy Price isn't asking much. Just for the powerful, sinfully hot, andnotorious playboy to be a decent human being. But he's used to using thatfilthy, sensual mouth for getting what he wants.

And he wants her.

She’s determined not to fall for him. But there's no avoiding his charisma,or his bed, where she threatens to lose more than the standoff between them. She just might lose her heart.

Kennedy Price is dressed to kill and she has one agenda getting Jagger Hamilton’s DNA. She is convinced that he is the father of her nephew she just needs the proof. Jagger is looking to obtain the hotel of Kennedy’s boss. She uses it as leverage to get what she needs. Jagger is willing to take the test but more than that he wants Kennedy all for himself.

In an Oyster Shell – It was a cute story that kept me engaged and has stayed with me long after I put it down.

The Pearls –  I loved that Kennedy was not Jagger’s type but yet she got his attention. I love the premise of a heroine who is determined to bring a notorious playboy down to size. I was not disappointed in the least.

Kennedy and Jagger were great characters. The interaction of the two was quite entertaining. The supporting characters were good and added depth.

The romance was full of sparks. It will take you by surprise as it did the characters. It is totally worth reading. A romance that will leave you swooning.

The Sand – It was not a clean romance.

About Sarah Ballance

Sarah and her husband of what he calls “many long, long years” live on the mid-Atlantic coast with their six young children, all of whom are perfectly adorable when they’re asleep. She never dreamed of becoming an author, but as a homeschooling mom, she often jokes she writes fiction because if she wants anyone to listen to her, she has to make them up. (As it turns out, her characters aren’t much better than the kids). When not buried under piles of laundry, she may be found adrift in the Atlantic (preferably on a boat) or seeking that ever-elusive perfect writing spot where not even the kids can find her.

She loves creating unforgettable stories while putting her characters through an unkind amount of torture—a hobby that has nothing to do with living with six children. (Really.) Though she adores nail-biting mystery and edge-of-your-seat thrillers, Sarah writes in many genres including contemporary and ghostly paranormal romance. Her ever-growing roster of releases may be found on her website.

The Unbroken Heroes are back! Agent Dare Servant is aghast at this fellow Ops members settling down. He knows without doubt that the domestic life will never be for him - the thrill of the chase and the high of danger to strong to ever give up. But when a quirky and charming caterer ends up smack dab in the middle of a criminal mastermind's plot, Dare will uphold his honor and protect her. Even though she pushes all his buttons. Even though her beauty drives him to distraction. Even though he's in danger of losing his heart to her and hanging up his Shadow Ops life for good…

Dare Servant is close to getting the incriminating evidence he needs on a guy he’s been trying to take down. He is focused on his career and has no plans of settling down. When an unsuspecting caterer gets in the middle of one of his stings he is caught up protecting her. She surprises him by helping him and he is in real danger of losing his heart.

In an Oyster Shell – It was not my favorite book it was not clean and relied on the sexual relationship more than anything to carry the book through.

The Pearls – I love a special ops book. Dare Servant was ever the special law enforcement guy. It made for an interesting premise.

There were some gritty realities in the story but was interesting. There was the gruesome reality of the sex trade. I was glad the author had her hero fighting hard to put an end to those things.

It was a sweet ending that Dare had a change of heart. It was nice that the heroine could stand up to the walls he had built up around himself.

The Sand –  I was disappointed in this book. This publisher usually puts out really good books and that was not the case this time. As I mentioned before it relied heavily on the sex factor and I don’t like books like that.

Kelly’s back.

How can two simple words make Dylan Bronstad’s heart ache and sing at the same time?

Even seven years ago, Kelly Anne Leeson had possessed that power. Back then, all Dylan wanted to do was drink and make love to her. Really, it was no wonder she’d climbed out of his bed and walked out of his life, leaving him with nothing but a nasty hangover and the lonely memories of their time together.

Today, Dylan’s life is on track. He’s sober with the support of his family and his tight-knit group of friends. But Kelly could derail all he’s worked to accomplish. Unfortunately, he can’t seem to stay away from her.

Lured by the offer of her dream job, Kelly returns home to Crawford Falls and the friends she’d abandoned a lifetime ago. Mending those broken relationships will require some honest answers and a fair amount of forgiveness.

But facing Dylan will take a lot more—like maybe a suit of armor to protect her battle-weary heart and the secret she fears she’ll never be able to keep.

While Kelly searches for a way to maintain the safe life she’s created for her son, Dylan works to remind her of the relationship they once had.

Just as they rekindle their relationship, secrets and half-truths threaten to destroy everything.

Kelly Anne Leeson left home seven years ago is back. Dylan is torn he doesn’t know why she left all those years ago but wants to get to know her again. Kelly has a secret she’s been keeping all alone. Not only does she have to protect her heart but the heart of her son. As Dylan knows more he will do anything to make up for lost time.

In An Oyster Shell –  It was a sweet second chance romance with great characters.

The Pearls – It was a sweet concept of a small town homecoming to face what she left behind. It was well executed and was a great story to follow. I love small hometown stories.

The characters were fun to follow. Dylan was a strong hero with his demons to battle. Kelly was a great heroine with a fire that sparked between the two of them. Her son was a cute kid that was well represented. Sometimes kids are not well done in stories it was not the case in this book.

The romance was sweet. I loved that Dylan pursued Kelly with a passion. I like that she was cautious. I also liked that she had some atoning to do as well. I get tired of the guy always being the one to be saying sorry. It was well balanced and refreshing.

The Sand – It was not a clean romance. There were some awkward scenes that didn’t really work with the story.

Alan Rothwell, Marquess of Ravenscar, is furious when unconventional heiress Lily Wallace refuses him purchase of her property. He can’t even win her over with his infamous charm. But when fever seizes him and they’re trapped together, horrified, Alan realizes Lily’s attentions will compromise them both! His solution: take Lily as his betrothed before desire consumes them completely…

Lily Wallace is off her beloved island and in England to find a suitable match with her inheritance. She runs into Alan Rothwell, Marquess of Ravenscar who wants to buy her property she has just inherited. She refuses. Fate would have them cross paths again and they are left alone for a couple of days while Rothwell is down with a fever. Convinced that she has been compromised he declares them betrothed. If only it were that simple she gives him a run for his money.

In an Oyster Shell –  A tantalizing romance that has a palpable tension that will get your heart racing and your fingers turning the pages quickly.

The Pearls – The author had a deft hand with words. She had great word economy. I appreciate good books that make me have to look words up. It was entertaining but I also learned some new words. That is always thrilling for me.

The romance was intense. The tension between Lily and Allen was jumping off the pages and captivating me. There were real struggles for the two as they were both stubborn and had to fight to be open with the other. It was a riveting adventure to read what happens with the two of them.

I loved Lily as the heroine. She was a mystery at first that was delightfully untangled by Lord Ravenscar himself. He was a troubled man but Lily challenged him and simultaneously sought to soothe the festering wounds of his past. They were really great characters that brought the story to life.

The Sand – It was on the steamy side not as clean as I like.

About Lara Temple

Lara Temple writes strong, sexy regency romances about complex individuals who give no quarter but do so with plenty of passion. Her fifth book with Harlequin Mills & Boon, ‘Lord Ravenscar’s Inconvenient Betrothal,’ will be published in March 2018, and is the second in her Wild Lords series. Her four previous books are: Lord Hunter’s Cinderella Heiress, The Duke’s Unexpected Bride, The Reluctant Viscount, and Lord Crayle’s Secret World.

When she was fifteen Lara found a very grubby copy of Georgette Heyer’s Faro’s Daughter in an equally grubby book store. Several blissful hours later she emerged, blinking, into the light of day completely in love with Regency Romance but it took three decades of various fascinating but completely unrelated careers in finance and high tech before she returned to her first love.

Lara lives with her husband and two children who are very good about her taking over the kitchen table for her writing (so she can look out over the garden and dream). She loves to travel (especially to places steeped in history) and read as many books as possible. She recently went looking for that crowded little bookstore but couldn’t quite remember around what corner it was…hopefully it is still there and another girl is in the corner by the window, reading and dreaming…

Lizzie Barber runs a successful flower shop by day and secretly hosts the Naked Baker webcast at night to help pay for her younger sister’s education. To keep friends and family from finding out about her sexy secret, she’s put her social life on hold until her sister’s education is paid off and she can stop filming the webcast.

Blue Ryder fell hard for Lizzie when he met her a year ago, and he hasn’t been able to get her off his mind since. Everything about the feisty little brunette, cuts straight to his heart. Though Lizzie has turned down every invitation he’s extended–Blue is not about to give up trying.

Renovating Lizzie’s kitchen brings Blue further into Lizzie’s life, and the oven is not the only thing heating up. One night and one powerful kiss changes everything. But when Lizzie’s secret is revealed and the safe bubble she’s hidden in shatters, true love may not be enough to put the pieces back together.

Review –

Blue Ryder has been asking Lizzie out for a year. She has been turning him down at every invite. Blue will not stop trying and Lizzie’s resolve is getting weaker. She is hiding something from everyone she cares about. Lizzie is the host of the webcast Naked Baker. She is making a lot of money to put her sister through school. She is putting her social on hold until her sister is out of school. Blue is rennovating her kitchen which puts him close to her. He treasures the notes and baked treats she leaves with him often. When she agrees to go out with him he is thrilled. The harder Lizzie falls the more worried she gets that her secret will tear them apart.

In an Oyster Shell – A sweet but sexy addition to the series its a new chapter in the series and I am excited to see where it goes.

The Pearls – I reallly like Blue. I was surprised that he got his own book. I like how the author weaves characters from other books and gives them more life in another story. I really liked Lizzie she was sexy and sophisticated. There was minimal supporting characters but the ones there where added depth.

The Naked Baker plot was so interesting. That Lizzie turned something sexy into a thriving business was very creative. I liked the coflict that it added between her and Blue. It was really cool how he surprises her in the end.

The romance was sweet. I like that every  romance in this series has its own premise. It surprises me every time what this author comes up with. I like that this particular romance was tested and turned out true.

The Sand – I was a little dissapointed that the previous characters I fell in love with are no longer in the series. I hope the author gives them at least a cameo in other books.

He spends twelve hours a day in front of his computer, rarely leaving the seclusion of his beach-front property, where he’s come to finish his latest thriller — that is, until free-spirited Leanna Bray nearly drowns in the ocean trying to save her dog. Kurt’s best-laid plans are shot to hell when he comes to their rescue. Kurt’s as irritated as he is intrigued by the sexy, hot mess of a woman who lives life on a whim, forgets everything, and doesn’t even know the definition of the word organized.

Leanna’s come to the Cape hoping to find a fulfilling career in the jam-making business, and until she figures out her own life, a man is not on the menu. But Leanna can’t get the six-two, deliciously muscled and tragically neat Kurt out of her mind. She tells herself she’s just stopping by to say thank you, but the heart-warming afternoon sparks an emotional and unexpectedly sweet ride as Kurt and Leanna test the powers of Chemistry 101: Opposites Attract.
