Better late than never
Hello, Write Edge readers! I realize I’m two days late to post for this week. It’s been a little bit of a bumpy start to the week with everyone trying to figure out what social distancing actually means. While the kids were technically going to be on spring break this week anyway, the “break” from everything takes on an ominous sound when we’ve been told the “break” doesn’t have an end yet.
News reports have been coming in of people going to both extremes: some hoarding toilet paper and others living it up on the beach with hundreds more. One man — and I’m not making this up or exaggerating — said he was on the beach and not worried about COVID-19 because there was mostly sand everywhere and not as many surfaces to touch.
Well. I truly hope he and his loved ones are okay. But a little caution never hurt anyone, now, did it?
Rest assured, readers, I’m still here and still healthy. Just trying to get into the rhythm of a new (hopefully temporary) way of life. So even though it’s Wednesday, let’s get started on our week, shall we?
First, our weekly motivational quote. I think this definitely goes back to the idea of staying informed, but it’s also inspirational. It reminds us that while we’re living through a scary time, humankind has survived all sorts of catastrophes and survived.
“The failure to read good books both enfeebles the vision and strengthens our most fatal tendency—the belief that the here and now is all there is.”—Allan Bloom
Next is this week’s short fiction. Yes, I know that it was supposed to come out two days ago. Yes, I know that the date on top of it is for Monday. Let’s just play pretend and say it posted that day, shall we?

Parenting adventures up!
Hello, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest adventures in parenting for you (and, yes, it does have to do with COVID-19, because, I mean, why not?) Here’s an excerpt:
Would it be terrible if I admitted that sometimes my most favorite time of day is when I’m at home all alone? If I homeschooled my children, not only would I be responsible for imparting knowledge to them but then when school ended they’d just stay. They’d never leave.

Book review up!
Good morning, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on Follow Me by Kathleen Barber. Here’s the opening to my review:
A young woman moves to a new city for her dream job and brings her substantial social media following with her. What she doesn’t realize is that one of her followers wants more than just her latest posts on Instagram. He wants her all to himself and will stop at nothing to get her. Author Kathleen Barber offers readers a standard thriller about the dangers of sharing too much of one’s life online in the new novel Follow Me.

If you’re not traveling…
Hello, Write Edge readers! It’s the month of spring break, although I’m sure many of you have suspended travel plans due to COVID-19. I’ve spoken to many friends and family who have put off trips and have unfortunately had to cancel one myself. Better to be safe than sorry, even as we look longingly at stock pictures of bright blue skies and happy people holding drinks and laughing like they don’t have a care in the world. Do you know why those people are happy? No coronavirus.
Yes, this is my PSA to continue washing your hands. Several times a day. For at least 20 seconds at a time. If you’re into social media, you’ll find plenty of posts and memes sharing 20-second snatches of popular songs you can sing while you lather up. Check it out. Be the next Camilla Cabello or Lizzo or someone.

New book review up!
Hello, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I’m sharing my thoughts on You Are Not Alone by co-authors Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. Here’s the opening to my post:
In the aftermath of a horrible incident, a woman tries to pull herself together. She stumbles upon a new circle of friends who she believes were tailor-made for her. The more time she spends with them, however, the more she realizes that she might be headed for danger herself. Co-authors Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen follow up their smash hits The Wife Between Us and An Anonymous Girl with the superlative novel You Are Not Alone.

Let’s March toward spring :D
Hello, Write Edge readers! We’re into the third month of this new year and decade. The world is on high alert due to the coronavirus, so this is my public service announcement: please, please, PLEASE wash your hands thoroughly whenever you return from a public place and, for the time being, maybe refrain from offering anyone outside your family a hug or a handshake. Be upfront about wanting to protect their health and yours. Better a few seconds of awkwardness rather than two weeks of quarantine.
Take care of yourselves, readers.
Now, on to this week’s content! If the coronavirus isn’t enough to remind people to be careful and make the most of every opportunity, perhaps this week’s motivational quote will do so. We all get one life; don’t hold back.
“I am … aware that life doesn’t go on forever, and no writer really has … time to waste.”–Corey Flintoff
Maybe this whisper of urgency is the reason why I chose to write a poem for this week’s writing exercise. I know, me and poetry? But it’s good to challenge ourselves once in a while, and, rest assured, this is more story than poem. It’s really a story masquerading as a uniform set of lines that conform to a particular shape. Here’s a quick excerpt:
I remember poking my tongue out as I concentrated on the eye.
I remember my triumph when I threaded a hundred needles in a row.

In the middle of the week, I’ll share a brand new book review. Co-authors Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen have a release coming out tomorrow called You Are Not Alone, and you’ll find out Wednesday what I thought of their latest thriller. Come check it out on The Write Edge Bookshelf!
Finally, on Friday, we’re back to my Insta world and my latest posts and pictures! Aren’t following me yet? Come request to follow me by using my handle, @EktaRGarg, or check out my Facebook author page where you can find the Instagram posts as well as other fun content exclusive to FB.
Have a fantastic week, readers! Now go wash your hands. :>

New parenting adventures up!
Hello, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest parenting adventures for you. Here’s a quick excerpt:
In the last six months, a change has crept across the stage as quietly as a fog rolls in. One day it’s just there, and you wonder how you could have missed it. Now it’s becoming denser, and it doesn’t seem to be dispersing any time soon.

Last installment of this month’s Thursday R.E.A.D.s
Good morning, Write Edge readers! With today’s installment of Thursday R.E.A.D.s, I wrap up this first analysis of a book for the year. You’ll get three more book analyses in 2020.
Today I share what I thought of Erin Morgenstern’s book The Starless Sea from the point of view of a d.reamer. Want to know what that means? Curious about this last installment? Check it out now on Thursday R.E.A.D.s on The Write Edge Bookshelf!
If you’d like to suggest a book for Thursday R.E.A.D.s, please let me know! I’m on the lookout for big book releases so that I can share my thoughts on them and compare them to what other readers felt. I have a few books in mind for this year’s Thursday R.E.A.D.s, but I’m always open to suggestions.
Thanks, readers!
