New book review posted!

Good morning, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest review for you. Today I share my thoughts on The Girl in the White Gloves by Kerry Maher. Here’s the opening to my post:

A young woman fights for her right to steer her acting career, only to give it up for love. The traits she cultivated as an actress, though, help her in her new role as a member of a royal family. Author Kerri Maher novelizes the life of 1950s star Grace Kelly in the humdrum new book The Girl in White Gloves.

Have a great day, readers!

Into the last week of the month

Good morning, Write Edge readers! It’s the last week of February — can you believe it? And for those of you who haven’t looked at the calendar recently, this year we get a Leap Day. What will you do with those extra 24 hours?

If you’re pursuing a passion or have your eyes on a goal that’s been burning inside of you for a long time, this week’s motivational quote will probably hit home. An extra day in the month means an extra day to explore and push ourselves to our limits, to make ourselves better. It means a day to challenge ourselves, as this week’s quote reminds us:

“Creativity flows when curiosity is stoked.”—Neil Blumenthal

Since it’s the last Monday of the month, I’m featuring other writers on the Workshop. Check out a piece of flash fiction, a long fantasy entry on a well-known publisher’s website, and a story that will make you shake your head at the way things would be done in “the old country.” Find these stories in this month’s writers’ showcase on The Write Edge Writing Workshop!

On Wednesday I’ll share a new book review. Many of you might remember the ethereal actress Grace Kelly. Some of you might not know the full story behind that elegant onscreen persona. Author Kerri Maher did extensive research into the actress’s personal and professional life, and I’ll let you know what I thought of the novelization of the result. The book review of The Girl in White Gloves by Kerri Maher lands in the middle of the week on The Write Edge Bookshelf.

I hope you’ve been enjoying the new feature on the blog, Thursday R.E.A.D.s. This week I’ll share the last installment of my analysis of The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. You’ll also find that on the Bookshelf but on Thursday.

Finally, it’s back to parenting adventures at the end of the week. Find out what the kids and I have been up to on Friday on Growth Chart.

Have a lovely week, readers!

Book review now up!

Good morning, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on The Bootlace Magician by Cassie Beasley. Here’s the opening to my post:

When a young magician realizes that his evil grandmother is targeting the circus he loves, he decides to fight back to keep his new home safe. The only problem is that his grandmother always manages to stay one step ahead of him and his magician friends. Author Cassie Beasley continues the story of Micah and his circus family in the slow-to-start but ultimately successful novel The Bootlace Magician.

The post-Valentine’s week of work

Hello, Write Edge readers! It’s a rainy day here in Central Illinois, but I’m keeping myself warm with lots of writing and thinking about writing. I’ve taken the first tentative steps toward making those publishing dreams come true. It’s exciting and — this might sound weird but also might make sense to many of you — calming all at the same time. I’m glad to get this train out of the station finally.

But first, on to our regular content for the week. This week’s motivational quote delves into the how we end things. I think, if we look even deeper, the implication here is to put all of ourselves into a matter. Only then can we succeed and feel that deep sense of satisfaction that we gave it our all.

“I think a good ending hangs in the air like a musical note. It’s just done.”—Amy Bloom

Next it’s to this week’s new short fiction. I’ve written another flash piece, so I can’t share an excerpt, but I guess the topic of love is still on my brain even though Valentine’s Day is done. Be sure to check it out here on The Write Edge Writing Workshop.

In the middle of the week, I’ll post that book review I promised all of you. Cassie Beasley wrote a sequel to her book Circus Mirandus. The sequel is called The Bootlace Magician, and I’ll share my thoughts on it this Wednesday on The Write Edge Bookshelf.

On Thursday, I’ll bring you the third installment of the newest feature on The Write Edge: Thursday R.E.A.D.s. This month I tackled The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. If you didn’t get a chance to read the first two installments of my thoughts on the book as a R.eviewer and an E.ditor, you can find them here before I share what I thought of the book as an A.uthor this Thursday.

Finally, at the end of the week, it’s back to Instagram. Check out my previous posts with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or on my Facebook author page where there’s other fun content too. Then come back to see my latest Insta-pics on Friday.

Have a fantastic week, readers!

Parenting adventures posted!

Hello, Write Edge readers! I’ve just posted a special Valentine’s Day Growth Chart. Like a little muscle on this day for mush? :> Here’s an excerpt:

“I mean, I think if she’s going to have a crush, it’s going to last a long time,” she explained. “Like, she would take it seriously. She’d tell the boy, ‘You’re sticking around. You’re not going anywhere.’”

“I can see that,” I said. “Of course, that means that if he broke her heart, she’d be devastated.”

“If he did that,” she replied, her tone becoming fierce, “I’d have to hurt him.”

Have a fantastic evening, readers, and stay warm. Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you!

Book review postponed

Good evening, Write Edge readers. I was going to post my review of The Bootlace Magician by Cassie Beasely, but I didn’t finish the book in time to share my thoughts. It’ll definitely be up next week, though, so be sure to come back for it.

Have a good night, readers!

Notes on Tuesday now up!

Hello, Write Edge readers! As promised, I’ve launched a new feature on the blog. Unlike other articles and posts, this one won’t be updated on a regular schedule but I will be updating it every time I have the opportunity to do a talk on writing.

In order to help other writers and boost the #writingcommunity, I’m sharing the abbreviated notes from every talk I did or ever do. Feel free to read, save, bookmark, and share them with others. The first installment is all about setting goals and keeping them, and while I talk about writing in this post I think the advice can be applied to any life pursuit.

Thanks, readers!
