COUNTRY FEVER

18+ book and not for those who are faint of heart

COUNTRY FEVER

by: S.E.ISAAC

“So that means…” I couldn’t finish my sentence. My words fell away.

“Yep, we’re roommates. Sorry for not telling you back in town, but your day was already rocky, and I didn’t want me suffering the same fate as the computer.” He smiled sheepishly. “I hope you don’t hate me.”

“No.” My voice was weak. “May I have a seat?” I gestured toward the leather couch.

“Of course.”

I walked over and sat. Today was a day from hell. Not that having a hot guy as a roommate was bad. I’d have no complaints about watching him stroll around the house in his boxers…or briefs.

“Kathleen?”

“Huh?” How long had I zoned out?

“Want me to carry your bags in?”

“That’s all right. I’ll get them.” He frowned. “Something wrong with that?”

“Well, honestly, yes.” He sat next to me. “You’re a lady and I’m a gentleman. There are certain things a gentleman should do, like carry a lady’s bags for her.”

“I have hands. How do you think they got into my car?” I raised an eyebrow.

“I have no doubts of your capabilities, and if I had been there, you wouldn’t have loaded your bags.”

“Well, I did, so I can unload them.”

He shook his head. “I’m going to show you Southern hospitality. Not all men are spineless.” He appeared dead serious.

“We can unload them together.” I smirked, thinking victory was mine.

“Kathleen,” he said low, making me tremble. He leaned into me. “I have handcuffs.” Oh, my, yes, please handcuff me and have your way with me, sheriff. The thought of him naked and against me made my blood boil. I felt my cheeks flush. “I’m not afraid to use them to get my way.”

God, sign me up for that ride. I felt a throb between my legs. I hadn’t been with a man in years, six years to be exact. If Mr. Sheriff wasn’t careful, he’d find himself naked and handcuffed to the nearest bed.

“You play dirty, sheriff.” My voice was low and broken.

“What can I say? I like to win.”

I faced him. We were a few inches from each other. I turned my body toward him, my legs now touching his. He sat there speechless.

“Fighting dirty can get you into a lot of trouble, sheriff.” Opening my mouth anymore was going to get me into trouble. I hadn’t expected to meet Mr. Yummy pants. What would any other woman in my shoes do?

“Is that so?” He grinned his devilish grin.

“Quite so, because I too can fight dirty.”

The look in his eyes changed. It went from seductive to predator. I’d seen that look on lions’ faces before they pounced on a gazelle on the Discovery channel.

“Fighting dirty with me can get you into a lot of trouble, Kathleen.”

My name off his lips made me throb more. This man had my blood flowing.

“Looks as if we’re both bound for playing dirty and trouble.”

Dip in the pool

Went swimming with the boys, in the backyard. These two are like archnemesis and best friends. I like to call it “bipolar brothers”. Refereeing these two was more exhausting than swimming! Now, I’m feeding them pizza. Hoping their filled bellies will make their brains slow down….mama needs a break!

I want to work on my book, but do I have the energy? Let’s hope so. If anyone wants to donate energy or babysit, let me know :-p

Happy Reading!

Take a peek….

Train to Anguish

Light beamed down on my face, as we passed through the ten-mile tunnel that led to Lynx Canton. The half an hour train ride seemed to last an eternity. I was the only one in the train car. I had no other passengers to pass the time with to ease my nervousness. I was filled with nerves, confusion, and rage on the inside but kept an emotionless composure on the outside. Emotions were my enemy. I had known that since day one.

The Academy of Anguish was an all-male war academy. The word academy is just another way of saying canton without making it political, but everyone knows Academy of Anguish is a lifestyle not an educational system. The males left the walls of the academy, conducting themselves in a variety of ways, often in a warrior way. When they caused trouble, they weren’t questioned by the law, simply returned within the walls to receive whatever punishment was deemed necessary, if any. Therefore no female would be foolish enough to subject her body to the agony, torment, and suffering that may wait within those walls. With the academy, there was no guarantee of survival.

The academy reached out past their walls to the Nevan government, because they wanted a female test subject not of Lynxan blood. It was decided that I would be the one to go in exchange for a political alliancey agreement. My father had selfishly signed my fate away to the unknown and with only a care for their people in mind.

The academy provided an outfit before my departure. Black pants, black boots and a black tank top. I was told I would not need to bring anything with me. I was to simply get on the private train at the Nevan train depot and everything else would be taken care of. My father tried to hug and kiss me goodbye, but I ran to the arms of my mother, who kissed me swiftly and whispered ‘I love you’. I found the strength somehow and walked out the door. I never looked back.

Now, here I am sitting on a train to doom and not a friend in the world. Most females would be bawling their eyes out in my current situation, but I knew better. Even when you felt like no one was watching, there was always someone watching. And I refused to be seen as weak.

The train finally reached the end of the tunnel and the glow of lights from the academy walls could be seen. The Academy of Anguish was much bigger then I had imagined. It looked like a fortress that went on for miles and miles. The train began to slow down, as I continued gazing out the window in amazement. My focus came back to the train when I was jarred forward as it halted. I stood up from my seat and looked at the exit doors. I knew once those train doors opened up, there was no turning back. I’d be forever marked.

What’s up, Doc?

~ ❤ ~ Who doesn't love Bugs Bunny? What a catchy phrase. ~ ❤ ~

What has everyone been up to? Anything new and exciting? I have been busy with household stuff and attempting to write, while juggling being a mom. Let me tell you this, herding cats would be much easier to do. I spent this morning eating popcorn and watching Home Alone 2 with my two younger sons. Movie is super cute, still. I didn't realize that Trump was in it. (Removes political comments) The cast overall is a powerhouse one. Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern (he plays a great idiot!), Catherine O'Hara (I kept thinking about Beetlejuice movie), and John Heard. There were so many other actors that you may not have recognized throughout the movie. Totally worth watching by yourself, with family, or friends!!!

That's my movie recommendation for the week.

Don’t judge a book by its cover ;-)

~ ❤ ~ The cover is the only thing innocent about this read!!! ~ ❤ ~

Is it hot in here or is it just the mystery man siting in the corner of the coffee shop? Aughbreigh Kelly keeps her cool and finds her way to the front of the line, but not before glancing at mystery man. Their eyes meet and Aughbreigh is ready to swoon. 'Head up, eyes front, and no drooling', she tells herself, but will she be able to resist such a treat?

The Hunt

We have returned from the hunt, but maaaaaan, am I exhausted. I feel like I haven’t slept in years. Jetlag is in full force too. Anyone want to babysit so the three adults can get a few days worth of napping in?
