inkstuds:

Up and coming uk cartoonist Lando, joined me in my London flat for a chat about his self published work from Decadance Comics and his new book from Breakdown Press, Gardens of Glass. Lando’s style reminds me of what Frank Santoro and I used to talk about with the idea of fusion comics, where you see someone pulling from so many different sources and creating something completely new.

so since you write and draw comics, are you a writer or an artist first? which is the most fun?

There’s a joy in coming up with what you’d like to see someone else whose work you’re excited about draw, and then working with what they send back. And also I like how it feels when you’re given a solid story and your job is to convey that visually. ( I guess I do that kind of stuff less)

I think growing up I was really into telling stories with pictures. Soo that’s drawing but I don’t like drawing nearly as much if it doesn’t have a story or ideas behind it. I think of myself as doing that.

in regards to the change of format of MW publishing, how do you think it'll change the trade reading experience? or rather, do you think it will at all?

My hope is that it’ll free up how I think about the comics and the kind of directions I take it in. With a lot of the Alphabet to infinity I felt like I was going back and forth between it being just a slow meandering and there being the kind of plot stuff that King city had.

In a way just learning more about Adventure time made me think of how I wanted to do future Warheads. How they focus on shorts that build on the whole.

but yeahh, who knows. It’s always an experiment.

wont lie I started reading prophet by pirating it. but it was so good I've bought every trade. thanks for making great comics

I’ve certainly pirated my share of comics sooo it’s cool. ( I read All star Superman like that)

My theory has always been that people who like the stuff will prefer buying it on paper— but thanks. I’m glad you like it.

Go Brandon Graham. Press release…

Issue #8 will be an extended 40-page long release

The New York Times bestselling series THE WICKED + THE DIVINE will expand to 40-pages for issue #8 for the regular cover price of $3.50. This special issue will feature a Brandon Graham variant cover full of party-hopping punch.

Now that the eleventh god is here, it’s time to party in THE WICKED + THE DIVINE #8. You’re invited. Everyone’s invited. We can sleep when we’re dead—but when you’ll be dead within two years, you may as well turn up in your pyjamas. After seven issues of egomaniacs, it’s time for an issue where the crowd is the star.

THE WICKED + THE DIVINE #8 will be available for $3.50 on February 25 with Diamond Code DEC140772. Cover B (Graham) will be available with Diamond Code DEC148276.

The cut-off for pre-orders is the coming Monday, so speak to your retailer if you want to secure a copy.

Also, as mentioned above, issue 8 is longer than normal due to formalist nonsense getting entirely out of control.

I had a blast drawing this fan art that will get printed on a cover.

I have two friends who are convinced that Coat of Arms from MW (is that his real name?) has two dongs like Nik, but I think it's just a case of long balls. Can you confirm; two dongs or long balls? Also are we gonna see more of him? I'd read a Coat of Arms

I don’t think I said his name in the book yet. & yeahh, I’ll do more with him. I like drawing him and his Ant pal.

but yeah, he just has a big old man penis and long balls. Although not to be out done by Nik In Warheads,Simon Roy drew the character  Long John in Prophet with 3 penises. Hey kids comics!

I’m glad we had this talk.
