February 28, 2011 — Astronauts Alvin Drew and Steve Bowen participate in a six-hour, 34-minute spacewalk doing maintenance on the International Space Station: “Bowen and Drew installed the J612 power extension cable, moved a failed ammonia pump module to the External Stowage Platform 2 on the Quest Airlock for return to Earth at a later date, installed a camera wedge on the right hand truss segment, installed extensions to the mobile transporter rail and exposed the Japanese “Message in a Bottle” experiment to space.” (NASA)

How do you draw/design space crafts? Do use photo references? It seems like designing something like that would be very hard...
Thing about spaceships is that they don’t have to be aerodynamic. So they can look like anything.
I do like how Nasa ships look. but I tend to look at a lot of Japanese robot stuff from the 80′s because I like the stank they put on things.

ANCESTOR, a four part sci-fi comic, will be serialized in ISLAND starting in Island #3, which comes out in September.
Matt and I have been working real hard on this story, and we’re really excited for it to hit shops in a few months. It’s about cults of personality, the nature of consciousness, and anxiety. It’s the most ambitious work that either of us have undertaken.

Man, this is a fun line up of books.
Here’s some thoughts on just the top row. (maybe I’ll do other rows later)
BAOH– was the only thing I ever delved too deep into by
Hirohiko Araki of Jojo fame. I love that it’s about a hero who has powers because he has an awful brain parasite–that’ll change his body in order to survive.
Nausicaa– I like this comic more than anything else Miyazaki has done-(I think that’s saying a lot) -I always compare it to AKIRA in the way –that I think Akira gets weaker as a story as it goes on. Like at the end Kaneda, who in vol 1 leaves a girls he got pregnant & never thinks of her again, is in charge of a new Empire– hmmm, that’ll should out well for everyone. but Nausicaa only gets stronger and has one of my favorite endings of any comic.
Appleseed– I’m so impressed by what Shirow does with comic panels and storytelling. I’m always joking how this book would be in every comic class taught but it’s amazing work is hidden in a cyborg cop comic -soo academics wont find it.
FIST OF THE NORTH STAR!!!– I think this is the best thing to come out of the Mad max movies. I imagine it’s creators Buronson and Tetsuo Hara watching the 80′s MM like –that was cool but what if it had a LOT more exploding heads.
(justy is ok)
Dirty Pair– I might’ve mentioned that I love this book…Adam Warren going from making fan comics of the untranslated DP anime, and then managing to get the rights from it’s creator to do his own version, layering it with his own influences of western cyberpunk sci fi. It’s amazing that this book even exists and then what he did with it is even more fantastic.
From this wonderful site.

Please tell me, was there ever a king city 2? because I only heard tokyo pop rumors and what not. And I really wanna see more cat masters.
There was more than what Tokyopop published. I did half of it there in KC book one and then finished it at Image in issues and then in this big collection
I have another story idea that I might run in Island for a short about Joe & Earthling years later. but who knows when I’ll get to that. also thanksss
.

I saw you at the ECCC panel and SOMEHOW didn't recognize you. Like, I literally went on about it when my friend asked what comics he should read and loaned him my copy of king city. And there you were, being brilliant all over that panel. And I was sitting
That is the nicest, thank you.
