#AtoZChallenge: Naming Characters in Finding Eliza
From StephanieFishman.com:
Sometimes authors use the people or places in their lives to name their characters. My characters' personalities are not based on the people in my life or in my family's past, but their names are influenced by them. As a genealogist, I've got a bank of family names hidden away in my head.

#AtoZChallenge: Meet Finding Eliza’s Main Character, Lizzie
From StephanieFishman.com:
For me, a story needs a strong character. I don't care how much action there is in the book if the character can't carry the show. When I started writing Finding Eliza I wanted to make sure that I had some strong women in the story. You've already met Blue, Claud, and Gertrude. In today's A to Z Challenge post you're going to meet our main character, Lizzie.

#AtoZChallenge: Why I put a lynching in Finding Eliza
From StephanieFishman.com:
The world created within the pages of Finding Eliza mirrors our world. It is a realistic, contemporary piece of fiction that also dips a toe into the historical genre through the Hines family diary. Because it shares realistic experiences, it touches on the dark sides of life: pain, loss, and bad choices.
Through these diary entries, we discover family secrets that uncover the lynching of a loved one. We see that the effects of a crime don't stay in a vacuum of the pa...

#AtoZChallenge: Meet Gertrude from Finding Eliza
From StephanieFishman.com:
When I started dreaming of the character of Lizzie in Finding Eliza, I decided to make her a little broken. Lizzie's parents have died, and she has struggled throughout her life with the whole that loss left behind. She needed a strong family to keep her afloat. In creating her personality, I started thinking about who would have affected her growth and development. My granny was a huge part of my life and who I have become. Lizzie needed a granny. Enter Gertrude.

#AtoZChallenge: Friendships in Finding Eliza
From StephanieFishman.com:
"The Gals" of Finding Eliza happen to be four women - Gertrude, Abi, Claud, and Blue - who have walked through life forever. I based their relationship on the real-life friendships that I've seen modeled by my mother-in-law and her crew. Come meet them!

#AtoZChallenge: How I found Everett Springs (Finding Eliza’s setting)
From StephanieFishman.com:
Growing up in Georgia, I got the best of both worlds. I lived outside of Atlanta and had access to the city whenever I wanted while my family lived in the country and let us visit when we could. I loved seeing all of the state from the fields in the south to the mountains in the north. I still grin and relax the minute I cross a border into home. When it came to determining a setting for Finding Eliza I knew one thing: It had to be there. Everett Springs was born.

#AtoZChallenge: The Dark Side of Stories in Finding Eliza
From StephanieFishman.com:
With the good in life comes the bad. Sometimes stories have a dark side to reflect this. In Finding Eliza, the darker side to life shows in several ways through the history of the characters and the history of the events that affect them. As a reader, I long to connect with characters that are real. I need them to get angry and have flaws. If they are too perfect, too happy, I end up feeling like they are there to mock the darkness that can pop up into my own life. I...
