BigVu – Teleprompter App and Video Maker
Have you ever wanted a way to record a short, scripted video quickly and effectively? What about using a Teleprompter App and Video Maker all-in-one app?
Every Friday I share one of my favourite finds of the week — a website, tool or an app that has impressed me.
My Friday Favourite this week is BigVu – Teleprompter App and Video Maker.
What is it?BigVu is a Teleprompter App and Video Maker that allows you to script, shoot, style, caption and publish videos quickly and easily.
How much does it cost? The plans for BigVu begin at $14.99/month for the Starter Plan, or $89.99 annually.
A Teleprompter App and Video Maker in OneIf you have ever needed to record a short video then you’ll know that it is not a quick process!
Tools such as Vidyard – Video Messaging for Business allow you to quickly record a video message for someone.
But, if you need to record a message for public consumption — perhaps to place on your web-site or social media — then the creation process can be complex.
Firstly, you need to create a script.
Then you need to record the video and follow the script.
After that, you often need to re-record the video where you’ve forgotten the script.
Finally, there is the process of editing the video and generating captions for it, before publishing the video online.
I’ve recently begun using BigVu to make the whole video creation process more efficient.
BigVu is available as an app for Android and iOS devices.
You can also use BigVu via a web-site.
The BigVu app incorporates a Teleprompter, meaning you can write a script for your video and have it displayed on screen for you as you record.
When you’ve recorded your video, BigVu allows you to quickly edit the video.
Then, you have the option of adding on-screen captions to the video.
One negative of these captions (for me) is that they are computer-generated by BigVu, rather than generated from the script you have already typed in.
This means that you can end up with some rather odd captions which don’t match your script!
However, these captions can easily be edited via the app or the web-site to ensure what you are saying matches what is on-screen.
You can also add on-screen logos, in-video music and other video effects during the BigVu editing process.
Finally, your video is ready to download and/or to publish to popular online platforms.
For anyone who works as a part of a team, perhaps with Virtual Assistants (as I do with Team Tubb), BigVu has you covered.
BigVu lets you collaborate on a video project amongst different users.
For example, I write a script and record a video in BigVu.
I then send this video to BigVu, where my video editor edits the recording, and my copywriter adds the captions.
Finally, my Studio Manager publishes the video.
This collaboration feature of BigVu makes it a powerful choice for anyone who wants to know How to grow your business with a virtual assistant.
Finally, one of the biggest strengths of BigVu is the training the company make available via their excellent YouTube channel.
BigVu have sought out experts in video making to record training videos.
These videos teach budding video creators on how to better content.
For example, I’d highly recommend the training video on 10 Tips to Look & Sound Pro On Camera With a Teleprompter from communications expert Laurie Brown. It’s gold!
How can I get it?To find out more visit BigVu here.
You can also follow @VideoInspire on Twitter, visit the BigVu Facebook page, or visit the BigVu LinkedIn page.

How MSPs are Partnering with Cisco for Business Success – TubbTalk 84
In this episode, Richard is joined by Marc Inderhees, As a Service Lead, and Sayuri Sato, EMEA Managed Service
Go to Market and Strategy Leader in the Partner Managed Team at Cisco, a global software and cloud solutions company.
Cisco is a household name, but it may surprise you to learn that they’ve changed their offerings in the last 15 years or so, as Marc explains: “The leadership team says we’re very much a software company.
“We have cloud offerings and we’ve made a commitment to move to everything as a service model. We’re market leaders in collaboration, security and networking, and we’re also committed to supporting MSPs in the SMB space.”
How Cisco View Managed Services and the Value of CollaborationTo Cisco, managed services involves partnerships, from fully-outsourced IT support to network and security management. They strive to better empower MSPs to be more efficient, more profitable and to grow recurring revenue.
Cisco are the leading collaboration company on the planet, and as part of that they introduced the Cisco Partner Programme to help MSPs with cloud, go to market and lifecycle services and to accelerate growth. They’ve also worked to enable their partner account managers to better engage with and support MSPs.
The Cisco Meraki SolutionMeraki is Cisco’s full stack, flagship solution and is used by more than half of their MSP customers. It covers a wide range of IT needs, but Marc says that it’s most often used for SD LAN security solutions and in wireless.
The Meraki dashboard gives MSPs a global view of their clients, and it’s all managed in the cloud. It saves them time by allowing them to resolve problems and close tickets faster. This also saves both the MSP and their client money, and it’s easy to configure – simply plug it in and run it.
Why Cisco Recommends MSPs Talk to DistributorsMost MSPs are comfortable with the idea of talking to vendors about software and solutions, Sayuri suggests something a bit different, and encourages MSPs to get in touch with distributors instead.
“Our distributors are like an extended Cisco salesforce, and MSPs can ask them the same questions they’d put to the sales team. They can talk about the solutions available and help the MSP choose the right tools for their needs, and how they can integrate with existing technologies.”
How the Umbrella DNS Solution Benefits MSPsUmbrella, Marc says, is “the leading DNS protection solution in the marketplace from enterprise down to SMB and it’s been successful because of the ease of use and efficacy of the product.”
MSPs who use Umbrella (often alongside Meraki) report fewer tickets and incidents to respond to, which lowers their cost of support and increases their revenue. DNS filtering technology means that everything coming through the internet connection is looked at and the ‘bad stuff’ taken out.
If you’re not sure what DNS is, this article might help!
Cisco use a product called Talos, which, after the US government, has the largest threat intelligence team and database of known risks and threats on the planet. Cisco process millions of threats every day and updates their products almost in real time.
Cisco’s MFA SolutionCisco also offer multi factor authentication (MFA) in their Duo solution. It allows MSPs to secure their RMM (remote monitoring and management). Duo is Cisco’s fastest-growing security technology.
The Duo experience is simple – after signing up to the tool, MSPs are able to install and run it straight away, and can deploy it quickly across all client systems. It’s a ‘set it and forget it solution’ which requires little monitoring and low overheads, and won’t generate a lot of tickets.

MindDoc – Your Mental Health Companion
We’re often aware of our moods as they are happening, but wouldn’t it be useful to have a mental health companion to help us stay aware of the fluctuations in our mindset over time?
Every Friday I share one of my favourite finds of the week — a website, tool or an app that has impressed me.
My Friday Favourite this week is MindDoc – Your Mental Health Companion.
What is it?MindDoc is an app that acts as a mental health companion. Every day, the MindDoc app asks you questions to help you become more aware of your moods and wellbeing.
How much does it cost?MindDoc is free to use for basic features including mood tracking and community access.
A premium subscription to MindDoc, which opens up additional features, cost from $8.99/month.
A Mental Health CompanionOne in ten of us will struggle with a mental health challenge at some point in our lives.
Be it anxiety, depression or any other mental health issue, I speak from experience when I say that quite often, this challenges can sneak up on us unaware.
Having been diagnosed with clinical depression in my early twenties, to this day I still struggle to notice the “red flags” that I may be slipping.
Thankfully, my wife helps keep on me on a healthy path, which I’m very grateful to her for!
However, after a recent episode, I started to think about how I could monitor my mental health and wellbeing more proactively.
I’ve explored before how journaling can help you improve your life, and I journal every day.
Additionally, I’ve started using the MindDoc app, which acts as a mental health companion.
Three times a day, the MindDoc app will pop up and ask me a series of mental health related questions, such as, for example:-
Have you lately been thinking about the same topics, without coming to a solution? Are you feeling hopeful about the future?Do you feel a sense of inner unrest or agitation? Then, MindDoc asks you to rate how you’re feeling, using positive and negative keywords such as:-
AchievementEmptyInterestTired
Merely the act of answering these questions and thinking about how you’re actually feeling can be powerful in managing your mental health.
However, MindDoc also reports back to you with an overview of your mental health every 14-days or so.
For instance, I hadn’t noticed the stress and anxiety I was taking on-board during a recent busy spell. For me, I was just “busy”.
But, MindDoc highlighted that I’d been suffering from poor emotional heath, and so I was able to take action to ease off and be kinder to myself.
The MindDoc app also offers you to a connection to BetterHelp, one of the largest online counselling platforms worldwide.
BetterHelp counsellors are licensed, experienced therapists who can help you with a range of mental health challenges.
During these challenging times, we could all do with being more aware of our mental health state-of-mind.
I think the MindDoc app is a valuable addition for anybody who is looking for a mental health companion in their lives.
How can I get it?The MindDoc app is available for iOS and Android devices.
To find out more, visit the MindDoc web-site here.
You can also follow @MindDoc on Twitter, visit the MindDoc Facebook page or visit the MindDoc LinkedIn page.

Gener8 Ads – Be Rewarded For Your Own Data
Advertising is a fact of life. We are bombarded with all sorts of ads. But have you ever wondered if you could be rewarded for your own data, used in advertising?
Every Friday I share one of my favourite finds of the week — a website, tool or an app that has impressed me.
My Friday Favourite this week is Gener8 Ads – Be Rewarded For Your Own Data.
What is it?Gener8 Ads is a web-browser extension that customises the advertising you see and rewards you for viewing them.
How much does it cost?Gener8 Ads is free to use.
Be Rewarded For Your Own DataAdvertising is an accepted way of modern online life.
We are bombarded with adverts at every turn, yet most of these adverts are not relevant to us, nor are we personally rewarded for the attention these ads take from us.
You can use ad blockers to reduce the intrusion of advertising as you browse.
Plus, a web-browser like Brave – Secure, Fast & Private Web Browser, helps put you back in control of the adverts you see.
But, if we accept that advertising is the resource that pays for a lot of the content we consume for free online, how can we accept adverts but be rewarded for the attention we give to them?
Gener8 is a web-browser extension that rewards you for the advertising you are served online.
When you sign-up for Gener8, you complete a profile that helps ensure you are served advertising that is relevant to you.
For every advert you are served, you are rewarded with Gener8 credits.
Then, you can cash in Gener8 credits to buy vouchers, merchandise, or even donate money to charity.
Sam Jones founded Gener8 to help reward users for their own data.
You don’t have to click on adverts to be rewarded for them, and any adverts that are displayed replace the adverts that you would otherwise have been served.
I’ve been using Gener8 Ads for a few weeks now, and I genuinely haven’t noticed any increase in intrusions by online advertising.
Despite this, I’ve earned 78 credits (almost enough for an £8 Audible voucher). Not bad, considering I’ve not changed my browsing habits at all!
Gener8 make their money by taking a cut of the advertising revenue you are paid.
Consider that end-users are typically never rewarded for the advertising we are served, I like the idea of the Gener8 Ads revenue sharing model.
If you’d like to earn some passive income for your web-browsing, then Gener8 Ads is worth checking out.
How can I get it?To get more information about Gener8 Ads.
You can follow @Gener8Ads on Twitter, or visit the Gener8Ads Facebook page.

Have I Been Pwned – Check if Your Email Address is in a Data Breach
How many organisations have you shared your email address with over the years? Hundreds? Thousands? Have you ever wondered whether any of those organisations have been involved in a data breach?
Every Friday I share one of my favourite finds of the week — a website, tool or an app that has impressed me.
My Friday Favourite this week is Have I Been Pwned – Check if Your Email Address is in a Data Breach.
What is it?Have I Been Pwned is a service that allows anyone to quickly assess if they may have been put at risk due to an online account of theirs having been compromised or “pwned” in a data breach.
How much does it cost? The Have I Been Pwned service is free to use.
Check if Your Email Address is in a Data BreachI’ve written extensively about Cyber Security for Small Businesses, and the importance of keeping clients data secure.
However, data breaches can and do happen. But how do you know if your data has been breached?
Have I Been Pwned is a web-site created by Microsoft Regional Director and web security evangelist Troy Hunt.
Hunt put together the site after what was, at the time, the largest ever single breach of customer accounts — the Adobe hack.
After the Adobe hack, Hunt said he did a post-breach analysis of user credentials and kept finding the same accounts exposed over and over again, often with the same passwords. This then put the victims at further risk of their other accounts being compromised.
(There’s a big lesson there about using a strong password and making sure you use different passwords for different web-sites).
Data breaches are rampant, and it’s hard to keep track with whether your data has been breached.
That’s where Have I Been Pwned can help.
Simply visit the web-site, and enter your email address.
Immediately, you will be told whether your email address was involved in a data breach and which breach(es) it was involved in.
If you have not already changed your password for the sites that you find have been breached, then now is the time to do so!
You can also freely subscribe to get notified when future pwnage occurs and your account is compromised.
Have I Been Pwned will send you an email as and when it discovers new breaches that your email address has been involved in.
I talked to Kevin Lancaster of ID Agent about The Dark Web and Keeping Managed Service Provider (MSP) Clients Safe, and it’s truly terrifying to understand the market there is amongst cyber criminals for our personal data.
I’d recommend using Have I Been Pwned to stay aware of how data breaches can affect you.
How can I get it?
To find out more visit the Have I Been Pwned web-site.

A List of Powerful Remote Monitoring & Management (RMM) Tools for MSPs
My blog post with A list of Professional Service Automation (PSA) Tools for MSPs has proven to be very popular, so I thought I’d create a similar post looking at another essential product for Managed Service Providers – the RMM.
A Remote Monitoring & Management (RMM) tool is an essential part of any Managed Service Provider (MSP) business.
An RMM tool is the software that helps your MSP business to proactively find, monitor and update client endpoints. These endpoints are traditionally workstations and servers, although modern RMM tools can monitor and manage smartphones, network devices and much more.
Why use an RMM tool?By using RMM tools, you can automate many maintenance tasks and proactively be alerted to any issues that will affect your client.
You will find that a good RMM tool minimises the time you spend travelling to client sites, and allows your service desk to deal with multiple clients concurrently — a real efficiency (and, in turn, profitability) gain for your IT business.
Which RMM should I use? There are dozens of RMM tools available to MSPs and IT Solution Providers.
Some questions to ask yourself when researching an RMM tool include:-
What type of endpoints do I want to monitor? Some RMM tools are PC-specific, others manage Apple Mac products, and others manage network devices. Which devices will your MSP need to manage?Do you require patch management? Do you want to monitor endpoints, or proactively update them with the latest software? If you want to proactively update, is it just Microsoft products you want to manage, or other 3rd party products too?Do you need PSA integration? If you’re already using a Professional Services Automation (PSA) tool, then you will want to make sure that any RMM tool you pick integrates with your PSATo help you research and choose your perfect RMM tool, here is an alphabetical list of RMM Tools for MSPs.

We also need to do more to support young women when they choose our industry.
