Bombay Hangovers on the SheThePeopleTV The Round up 2021 booklist

The Round up 2021 by SheThePeopleTV booklist compiled by Archana Pai Kulkarni includes Bombay Hangovers.

Wonderful to share space with fascinating authors of fiction and poetry. Am I over the moon?!

“This is the first collection of short stories from an accomplished poet. Rochelle Potkar, who grew up in Kalyan on the edges of Bombay, demonstrates her intimate connect to the city’s denizens with an easy verve. From the bylanes of Kamathipura to the Ambarnath fast local, from the hopeful textile mill employee of 1980s’ Bombay to the “humid passion” with which Flora Fountain’s second-hand booksellers operate, places and people are brought alive with Potkar’s skilful keyboard strokes. The plots serve as the canvas on which she paints the metropolis’ various hues, taking you close to the sights, sounds, smells and sweat levels unique to Bombay.”

’10 Things I want to do to you’ in VOICE.

Ekphrasis!!
My poem in the voice of Nikesh Murali – professional voice actor, award-winning writer, and the brain behind

Indian Noir – India’s most critically acclaimed crime n’ horror storytelling podcast.

Listen in

Read the whole poem in ‘The Bloomsbury Book of Great Indian Love Poems’ (Ed. Abhay K.)

Nikesh writes –

“I don’t regularly post readings anymore. But when I do, I try to align it with an ongoing story on Indian Noir. This gem by accomplished poet and @uiiwp alumni @rochellepotkar aligns so well with RIVER OF NIGHT’S DREAMING. It could very well be the poem that Mukti wrote for Sarthak. After all, the tale is about knowing exactly what your soul wants out of your precious life, only to be denied its comforts and pleasures by an oppressive society and toxic family dynamics.”

Bombay Hangovers reviewed in Hindustan Times (Dec 2021).

Independent journalist Lamat R Hasan intricately reviews Bombay Hangovers for Hindustan Times (Dec/2021).

“Poet Rochelle Potkar’s first collection of short fiction includes 15 stories set in Mumbai and one set in Goa. They uncover the inner lives of characters while revealing the author’s knack for fashioning intricate plots and dissecting complex relationships”

Read the review here.

When at the end, the reviewer hearteningly says “There is no buzz around Potkar’s debut collection. This is surprising because Bombay Hangovers is a wonderful read.” … I wonder how resonant this is for all writers, poets, artists. We recurrently feel we don’t get enough buzz. Very few will say they have had enough! 😀

Do read on. You can still post your reviews at Amazon, Goodreads. Hope your dog-eared copies like intact from weather and omicron.

My iSpell talk on the creative writing processes.

So my talk (an overview of the creative writing processes) taught me how to condense thoughts in an easy 1-hour timeframe.

I covered the whole shebang. All forms, all genres that I sharpen my pen and pencil in. Threw in a bit of mind-care talk as well – The magnificence of the mind from where beautiful things come.

The session made news on television – JAN TV, Jaipur News. And I got a cute, gilt-edged certificate. (I am running out of house wall space, luckily FB wall is eternal).

Thanking-
Prof. Divya Joshi for recommending me for the talk.
Dr. Shalini Yadav, Professor, Department of English, Compucom Institute of Technology and Management, Jaipur
Ghanshyam, Professor of English, Directorate of Higher Education, Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

Bombay Hangovers – Goodreads review #1

Just saw the Goodreads page. Thank you, readers and reviewers!
Sharing, if only celebrating. Luckily no 1-star or 2-stars but would have even shared that engagement.
After all haven’t I been a hesitant audience to books/movies, unless caramel custard or popcorn?
