An accidental death like the one in Nose Hill Park is always tragic, but what can a homicide detective be expected to do about it?
Detective Margie “Parks Pat” Patenaude is called to the gruesome scene, and despite what she can see with her own eyes, does not believe that this is an open-and-shut case of the victim being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The more questions Margie asks, the stranger the case seems. What started off as a tragic accident turns out to be something much more.
Sometimes, a cop just has to follow her instinct.
There are vivid and scenic descriptions of the park where the crime has taken place along with a lot of nature, whether animals or plants. There are clues galore, some of which are unexpected due to the nature of the crime, and each is important
Another amazing book that you don’t want to miss.
Looking for a police procedural set in picturesque Canada? Let Award-winning and Bestselling Author P.D. Workman take you to her favourite Calgary parks, as Métis detective Margie Patenaude investigates a murder in this fast-paced new series.
These short mysteries are just right for those days when you could use a break from your busy life. Take a walk in a Calgary park with Parks Pat.

A killer bridge?
Be careful what you wish for!
City Hall wanted the death of Samuel Keller to be anything but an accident. Confederation Park had seen too many tragedies lately and did not need another added to the tally.
But Detective “Parks Pat” Patenaude had not been expecting to find evidence of murder.
Sometimes an accident is just an accident.
But sometimes it’s not.
The story has a good flow and details and descriptions that help me visualize the area, the park, the people and the crime. Once again, her grandfather imparts his wisdom and we get to see their family dynamics. There are twists and turns to the story until the whodunnit is revealed. There is closure and the story is wrapped up nicely.

A dam violent scene
Detective “Parks Pat” Patenaude is called to an idyllic scene in the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. The scene is marred only by the body of a man who apparently got in the way of beaver construction.
Nature can be cruel and beavers have been known to attack. This national symbol can be rabid and vicious.
Yet that does not appear to be the case this time, and Parks Pat is on the case, hoping to uncover the truth in this unexpected death.
I was thoroughly invested in this well-written police procedural involving relatable and believable characters, some of which seem like old friends at this point.
There are many clues to sift through in the park and out of it and of course procedures to follow. There is closure with the solving of whodunnit once again as I was fully immersed in the story and tried to anticipate what would happen next.

Confederation Park

Spanning the Creek is set in Confederation Park.
Confederation Park is a smaller park in the city’s northwest quadrant, south of Nose Hill Park (the setting for Knows the Hills). It was previously known as the North Hill Coulee. It was renamed and opened as a park as part of the 100th-anniversary celebration of Canada’s Confederation (the joining of the provinces to form Canada) in 1967. Flags for each of the provinces can be found at the entrance of the park.
The park offers summer and winter fun, and the author both biked and tobogganed there growing up and completed an orienteering course (a map exercise that was sort of a precursor to geocaching). There used to be a small fort for children to play in, and there is now a playground that incorporates a different fort structure. The adjacent Confederation golf course offers cross-country skiing during the winter.
Every year, Confederation Park also hosts the magical Lions Club Festival of Lights Christmas display. This drive-by exhibition consists of over 650,000 bulbs on 25,000 strings and almost 4 km of power cords.

Vanna had a good life. She had her challenges—like her mother’s high expectations of her—but all in all, she had a job she enjoyed, a fun hobby and friends. She didn’t need any complications.
But that all changed shortly after trying to break things off with Tino. The phone calls with no one on the other end. Anonymous gifts. Someone moving things around in her bedroom.
A restraining order changed nothing. If anything, it caused things to escalate. If Vanna wants her life back, she will have to take things into her own hands.
“What do you do when faced with a manic stalker? Someone you didn’t want to know or have anything to do with at all? Pursued by the Past is a wonderful, intense, edge-of-your-seat story about just that. Being pursued by your past…”
“Pursued by the Past is a book full of drama and suspense. It sends a strong message about the importance of trusting your instincts and just what can happen if you don’t.”

“Every book by PD Workman that I’ve read has been a gripping one, however different the genres are, going from lighter mysteries to really dark ones… this is one of my favourite, most dependable authors.”
“P.D. Workman is an incredibly versatile writer. No matter which of her books I read I am drawn into a great story and honestly, I don’t think I’ve followed another author that could go from cozy mystery to YA to a PI series dealing with mental health issues. Really enjoy her books!”
“[P.D. Workman’s] stories are so believable and you can’t help but feel like you know these people. You find yourself crying, laughing and feeling the characters emotions. Now if an author can make you cry and feel every emotion in a story, she is one hell of an author.”

From Troubled Kids to Troublemakers: Check out this New Detective Duo

With my 100th book release coming up quickly, I did some research on Canada’s most prolific authors. Have a look at what I found.
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules and more teasers at The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along.
The 2 Sisters Detective Agency is an interesting departure for James Patterson, introducing readers to Rhonda Bird, an unusual main character: a strong, fat, self-secure woman who doesn’t run from trouble but isn’t your lean, put-together super-spy, either. Rhonda is a woman driven by deep compassion for troubled kids, and her outlook is both surprising and refreshing.
However Mr. Jones had done it, I realized I was the only thing standing between him and his vengeance.
James Patterson and Candice Fox, 2 Sisters Detective Agency

Attorney Rhonda Bird returns home after a long estrangement when she learns her father has died. There she makes two important discoveries: her father stopped being an accountant and had opened up a private detective agency, and she has a teenage half sister named Baby. Baby brings in a client to the detective agency, a young man who claims he was abducted. During the course of the investigation, Rhonda and Baby become entangled in a dangerous case involving a group of overprivileged young adults who break laws for fun, their psychopath ringleader, and an ex-assassin victim who decides to hunt them down for revenge.

Inglewood Bird Sanctuary

Sanctuary in the Stream takes place in the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary.
The home of a wide variety of birdlife and other wildlife, the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary was created in 1929. More than 270 species of birds have been recorded here, as well as 21 species of mammals (including beavers), two amphibians, two reptiles, seven species of fish, and 27 species of butterflies. It is home to a long beaver dam maintained by industrious (and non-confrontational) beavers.
It is a great little place for homeschoolers, Scouts, school classes, and other small gatherings looking for a setting that is easily accessed and not too demanding. No dogs or bikes are allowed.
During the floods of 2013, many of the trails and bridges within the sanctuary were damaged, including riverside trails that eroded and fell into the river. Extensive remediation was required but is now complete.
The bird sanctuary is part of a project the City of Calgary is currently working on to create “Bend in the Bow,” a regional park that will incorporate Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, the Inglewood Wildlands, Pearce Estate Park, River Passage Park (including Harvie Passage) and the open spaces between these areas.

Reg is back in the swamp.
She didn’t ever plan to return to the Everglades, but here she is again, less than a year later, as if drawn in by a spell. It will be different this time. A short visit to see newlyweds Etienne and Ilka and to wish them well. She even has her cat Starlight with her. A swamp isn’t a great place for a cat, but he was upset with her for not taking him with her last time and wanted to see it. She figured he’d regret that when he saw how wet everything was.
But it soon becomes clear that the wedded bliss has been marred by something. Ilka is obviously deeply distressed over something.
Soon Reg is on the trail of Ilka’s missing heirloom.
How hard could it be to find a locket?
In a swamp?
P.D. Workman’s latest installment in the Reg Rawlins series is a must-read for fans of cozy mysteries, paranormal investigations, and psychic heroine Reg Rawlins.
Get your copy of Cat Tales in the Swamp on Prolific Works today and join Reg and Starlight on their latest adventure!
Like paranormal mysteries? Psychics, witches, fairies, and more! Award-winning and USA Today Bestselling Author P.D. Workman waves her wand to transport readers to the myth- and magic-filled small town of Black Sands for another paranormal cozy mystery to be solved by Reg Rawlins and her friends.
A self-professed con artist practicing as a contact to the dead, a drop-dead gorgeous warlock, and a psychic cat—what could go wrong?
Fall under Reg’s spell today.
—Another great work of art by Ms. Workman. I am amazed at the diversity of her writing and how much I really enjoy them all. She can write cozy mystery, YA books that should be read by all, medical thrillers, Zach Goldman series and now a paranormal series. I am so glad to have found this author. I am honored that I get to read them early also.
—This book has all my favourite things: heart, great writing, nearly-flawless editing, something unusual in the air, and a cat. I needed a light read, and this fit the bill perfectly. Recommended.
—This book actually surprised me. I knew that a psychic cat would be entertaining. I just didn’t expect it to be this good. You really do get wrapped up in the people and story. It sounds like a fairly gentle story, but there is a lot of suspense involved. Add a bunch of humor to the mix and you are in for a treat. I love the characters. Wish I had some friends like them. And the cat is so very well done. Acts like a typical cat, but a lot smarter than his human. This is a story that you don’t want to put down.
—Extremely well written as are all of P.D. Workman’s books, the characters well developed. I’m a character reader, I get into the characters. Who and what they are. Why they do the things they do. The things that make a reader get invested into the characters and thereby the book. I look forward to P.D. Workman’s next book.
—P D Workman has done it again; created a cast of characters and a storyline that are captivating and enthralling. Once I started this cozy I didn’t want to put it down (which can be a bad thing when you have a family to take care of…lol). I can’t wait for the other books in this series. I think Reg is going to turn out to be one of my favorite new characters. Pick up your copy as soon as possible.

Check Out Canada’s Most Prolific Authors

As I have been preparing for the publication of my 100th book, I became curious as to what other other Canadian authors had reached this milestone. Scouring the internet did not produce any names. Therefore, I reached out to various organizations, consulted the Library and Archives Canada library catalogue, and spoke with fellow authors to compile a preliminary list of Canada’s most prolific writers.
It’s important to note that this list is not exhaustive. I am sure there are other authors I have not yet discovered. But here is my preliminary list of Canada’s most prolific authors. For measurement purposes, I attempted to compare by the number of novels (or nonfiction books) published. However, I couldn’t ignore Viola Grace’s impressive body of work, since I can’t deny that nearly 500 works is prolific, no matter what their length.
The links point to the sources of the numbers.

If you are or know of other authors who should be added to this list or updates to the numbers of those included, please let me know!
The numbers in this article will be quickly out of date. These authors (the ones who are still living) publish a number of books every year. I’ll keep it updated the best I can.

Under CPL policies, I cannot sell books at this function. You can bring a book for me to sign. If you want to preorder books, drop me a line and I will take care of that ahead of time and have them there waiting for you. I will have order forms at the event that I will fulfill after it is over.
