Teaser for Mordyar's Book!
As many of you know I've been working on Mordyar's back story for the past year or so. It has made a lot of progress and is starting to really come together. In this post I have two reveals that I hope you will love.
First I want to share with you the title of this book! Up to this point we have just been calling it Mordyar's book, or the Kingdom of Denall Prequel. But now we have a title, that was published in my recent collaborative project, a book called Wren and the Ravens. Here it is!
Sneak Peek Number 2: In my current work through of this book many fun and exciting things have come to the characters. I think you'll enjoy watching Mordyar, who starts out as a young unmarked man named Mord, go through his growth as a character into the person we have known from the Kingdom of Denall trilogy.
Here's one of my favorite quotes from him in what I was writing yesterday. It hasn't gone through edits yet, so it might not make the final draft, but here's a very short snippet.
Quote from my WIP:
"What happened to your fear to do wrong?" Sadok asked.
Mord turned around and opened the door to exit the room. "I guess it was overcome by my fear to not do what was right."
I know it was a short quote, but I hope it gives you some shivers, or gets you a little more excited about the upcoming book! I'll keep everyone posted on progress of the book, and hopefully soon, I'll be doing a cover reveal. Lots of fun things in the pipeline!

Book Review: The Way of Kings
The Way of Kings by Brandon SandersonMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
Reading The Way of Kings feels a lot like entering another world. It had a similar feel to Wheel of Time in that it was so well developed, and entertaining that I fell in love with it, but I could also sum up the major plot elements in a sentence or two.
It is truly masterful to be able to write and incorporate such detail while keeping the reader engaged and Sanderson is a master of making this balance. There were several twists in this book that I'm sure will pan out in future books but it still had a solid ending that left me feeling satisfied, which is a must for me in five star ratings.
I'm looking forward to reading other books in this series and I recommend it to all ages of fantasy readers. It is a clean fantasy book which is hard to find, but very refreshing. I loved this book all around. Another great success for Sanderson!

Update: Wren and The Ravens
I don't post a lot about the projects I'm working on while I'm working on them, but recently something happened that was really great and got me even more excited about this book and I wanted to share it with you. Most writers have beta readers who read early drafts of books and give feedback on them. Often writers get in a group to read each other's books for this purpose. One of my first beta readers for my books is my wife. She has always given the most honest and best feedback!
She read an early draft of Wren and the Ravens and felt like it was a fun story, but was missing something. We brainstormed a bit and she had an idea that I loved. Without giving any spoilers, I just want to say that her idea blossomed into something so great that adds a level of intensity, excitement and danger that wasn't there before. It really helped make the book have more depth and I love it even more!
I think everyone should grab a copy of this book! I feel quite certain that you will love it too!

Very happy to announce the coming of a new book, available now for pre-order. Wren and the Ravens! It is said in Ryr that even when you seek peace, trouble often finds you.
For teenage Liden and his four friends, that is exactly what happens. No sooner do they run away from the mining town of Ryr to find freedom and adventure than they are thrust into events that mix them up with a notorious assassin known only as Wren.
Though the teenagers and assassin share neither goals nor values, they find themselves forced into cooperation in order to survive as they are caught up in the war raging along the Satine River that separates the northern and southern kingdoms.
How will Liden and his friends escape the war zone without making an enemy of Wren?

Book Review: Shadows of Self
Shadows of Self by Brandon SandersonMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
Brilliant! I loved this book.
One thing that Sanderson does that I aspire to be able to do better is the pacing of his books. He sets up a complicated world with a deeply confusing magical system, layered political strife, and believable characters, while keeping the story moving and the reader engaged. That is rare and amazing!
I loved the twists that came with this story. They were set up so you could see them coming, but it was still amazing when they did surface. I like that the characters are vulnerable and have flaws and weaknesses.
Another amazing success! Loved it!

Book Review: The Alloy of Law
The Alloy of Law by Brandon SandersonMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
By the end of Hero of Ages I felt like this series had gotten a bit dark. I loved the world and magic system that Sanderson created, but I had concerns about the direction the stories were moving. This book, and the next two completely turned things around again.
Wayne is fantastic! His lighthearted nature and comments really makes this series for me. Absolutely wonderful!
I like where the stories go for this book. There aren't too many twists in the first book, but as with other books by Sanderson, I was paying close attention to detail knowing that there would be twists in future books based on some of the threads he left in book 1. Sanderson is a master, and this series is masterfully done!
