Wishing ...

Wishing I was at the beach.

Or writing.

Or writing at the beach ... aahh! I'm not sure how well that sand, salt water, and computers mix, though. ; >(

Amazon is Busy Making Changes ...

... and I really like this one!

They've grouped all of the books in a series and added a link to the series on each of the individual book pages. That really makes it convenient, especially for those books that aren't labeled clearly where it's hard to tell what order the books should be read in.

In my case, the only thing I don't love is having Bradley and Nicole listed as first in the series. Amazon won't use half numbers so even though I consider Bradley and Nicole Book 2.5, it's listed as 0 and shows up as the first book to be read. I think the descriptions are clear enough to keep anyone from actually reading that one first though.

What do you think? A nice feature or not really necessary?

Exploding Watermelon?!?

After Googling a bit I've found this isn't too unusual, but I've never seen it happen before in my life...

I bought our first watermelon of the season yesterday and was really looking forward to slicing it but things didn't go quite as planned. I set it on the dining room table overnight and today we noticed thick white foam coming out of it!

Something was so not right!
I took it outside and more foam kept oozing out of a tiny fissure in it. We finally decided to hack it open to find out what was causing all the foam. The melon was so full of pressure it almost exploded when the knife hit it.

The flesh was a nice rosy color but the rind looked off. There was a thin layer of the foam on it. After my Google search I found our watermelon was infected by wild yeast! Well, that sounds like what happened anyway.

Now I'm debating if I should try to take a pile of watermelon mush back to the store for a refund ... I'm thinking I'm probably just out of $5.  ; >(

Now I'm a little nervous to buy another melon. How can you tell if it's good or not?

I just downloaded a new toy on my iPhone. It's a free QR scanner called Zapper.

Want to try it?

Have fun scanning!

My Compost Pile

I don't really have a good spot for a garden or compost pile at the moment, but since we've been juicing I couldn't bare to throw all that pulp away. So a compost pile was born right beside the house.

It's not fancy. We dump compostable stuff there and work it into the soil. The area went from yucky fill dirt to pretty good looking dirt rich with earthworms. All was going great until things started growing. Once I recognized tomato, potatoes, and squash I didn't want to till the plants back in so we're letting them grow!

I don't know if they'll actually produce anything but they're looking pretty healthy. Now I'm adding compost material to a new patch. At least until it starts to grow![image error]

(This picture looks washed out but the plants are really a nice, vibrant green.)
