Totem worship

Happiness in a thing,
Internal projection,
Flawed totem worship
Replaceable trinket
Unremarkable value
Noncommittal relations
Grave explorations
Destinations final
No carryon allowed
Happy relationships
Delightful experiences
Joyful opportunities

Habit of joy

Joyful habit, or…
Habit of joy, maybe
Find happiness in
Small places, try
New perspective
Appreciation for
Small things are
Daily gifts, only
See through a
Lens of gratitude
There is a balance between being critical and being blissfully ignorant. If we allow it we can both recognize our flaws, and forgive ourselves for them. Not ignore the need to improve, but no reason to be ugly with ourselves.
Similar thought on “Joy” which is a bit of an extreme word, but no reason not to be grateful for waking up in a warm bed, in a safe home, with a cup of coffee. That is something to be thankful for. But only if you allow yourself to see it that way. Maybe it isn’t good enough, but that is a matter of perspective, not material reality.

Curious about

Curious about things,
Stuff you know, yeah
Curious about stuff,
Real things, imagined
All things are imagined,
Sort of, René Descartes
Maybe a bit of everything,
Maybe there is nothing
Curious philosophers offer
More questions, less answers
Curious for entertainment
No reason to overcomplicate
Is there a rabbit hole of knowledge. Sometimes the abyss stares back, and that is ok. Doesn’t mean you need to lose sleep over it.

Altruistic advertising

Random action, kind opportunity
Quiet moment, forgotten faces
Advertising diminishes, detracts
Covert, overt, intentions revealed
Purposeful kindness, offering
Powerful impression, altruism
Leave it to a WordPress prompt to find a way to turn a good action selfish. As I said yesterday, it is a reflection on who we are. WordPress is playing the game.

Wasteland

Daily prompt, wasteland
Deserted creative source
Wellspring of repetition
Selfish, inward focus
Pandering, thoughtless
Nestled vanity, culture
Better paths to follow
Opportunities ahead
These selfish, inward looking prompts are annoying to say the least. Other things to focus on. More than anything, It bothers me that this is what people want, they would rather write about themselves than other topics. It is less a criticism of WordPress than a criticism of ourselves. But that is what we are, not something we were turned into. Groups like WordPress simply exploit and enhance those features.

Traditional burden

Heavy weight
Traditional burden
Ancestral guilt
Grandma’s cookies
Grandpa’s holiday
Family gathering
Diabetic history
Working vacation
Travel distances
Changing world
Traditions evolve
Children’s lesson
It is easy to opine on all the reasons a tradition from 30-40 years ago was easier to maintain. Families dispersing across greater geography and cost of living being a major issue. That isn’t constructive, honestly. Traditions are a way to share lessons and engage with one another, I’m sure we can find a way to do that today, even if it is differently.

Talk is cheap

Talk is cheap
Baseless currency
Without exchange
Worthless fiat
Words are wind
Empty gusts
Weak bellowing
Blathering gale
Put in the work
Show your value
Create opportunity
Prove your worth
Not going to lie, aside from first dates and job interviews, none of which are appealing. Who is asking you to describe yourself? It is a bit weird you know.

Far far away

Fly us away
Places unknown
Far far away
Away from home
Only two tickets
Sorry kids, byyeee
Babysitter needed
I’m sorry how much?
Do you barter?
Some plane tickets?
Staycation it is
What is on Netflix?
I’d love to travel, be spontaneous, but you know. Responsibilities.
