Musical accompaniment

Life’s accompaniment is musical
Not going to overstate anything, there is a reason we all enjoy music. Good or bad, it offers a momentary distraction. An opportunity to time travel to through memories. I’ll always have wonderful associations to terrible songs. My children gave me that, strange obsessions and silly dances to bad pop songs. Music does that, similar to food. It compliments life.

Maybe next year

View all responsesHard work, journey’s pause
Delay, interruption, a break
Never rest, entitled vacation
Luxury, a luxury, can’t afford
Hustle and grind, a cycle
Feeds, provides, sustains
Maybe next year, maybe not
Inflation adjusted, still behind
Grind culture and the quiet quitting, for the purposes of this dialogue are two sides of the same coin. I don’t believe that any generation has failed to produce hard workers, there is something to be said about the burnout that comes from being worked incredibly hard and receiving little to no extra benefit. Find a place where your hard work, is appreciated and hustle.

My first instinct, was to say something silly, snarky and playful. But I couldn’t come up with anything that wouldn’t be misunderstood in a direction I wouldn’t appreciate. I leaned toward the question of what is authority, and where does it come from. A favorite series of mine, books not the show is Game of Thrones, in the middle of all the blood and war is the open question of authority. The Spider’s riddle is a great example of that and you can find it here.

Romantic

An alternative definition of a romantic is a European from the later 18th century who rejects social conventions in favor of individualism. They argued strongly for the use of passion and intuition. You know, could go either way.

Honored appreciation

A simple thank you
Homage to action
Not being the type to ask for help, sets me up for a challenge generally. My first thought when receiving an act of kindness, or anything worthy of gratitude is often, “Don’t mess it up.” Actions speak louder than words, and a simple dismissive thank you is cheap.

Chicken feed

View all responsesMy family keeps chickens, when the sun comes up in a little bit I’ll have to let them out. From my perspective they meet the three criteria of a pet I enjoy.
Help with breakfastQuietStay outsideIt is also why I like my neighbors to be deer, even if they eat our plants. The best garden’s feed our neighbors, I’d prefer they let the plants grow a bit more, but you know.
Now that the chickens have grown a bit, a small thing. I don’t believe that the world moves on big steps, but small ones. Is leftover produce or near waste, goes to the coop. When we have leftover bits from chopping up veggies to the coop.
I think packaging is a major issue, more being packed into containers than can be eaten reasonably. The sellers or growers don’t care if we eat it, only that they sell it. So, they increase prices and force container sizes to justify it. Instead of a large container of spinach going bad, I toss a bit out for the chickens each day. They get variety and I don’t have half a container go bad in my fridge because we can’t consume a pound of spinach each day.
I’d push more outside but there is a lot of highly processed/over salted foods that are not good for them, not good for us either. But convincing my children of that isn’t easy. Always improving though.
Food for thought.
Refreshing an older poem I released originally on here.

When hungry hands assemble mass produced smartphones.
What is her carbon footprint?
When calloused hands load boxes of elegantly designed hardware.
What is his carbon footprint?
When shipping container bloated with stock, lumbers across the sea.
What is their carbon footprint?
When kindly old woman, skips doomscrolling for garden blogs.
What is her carbon footprint?
When bright yellows blooms explode, shared across towers and server farms.
What is their carbon footprint?
When yellow notes sing soft memories of an old woman’s grandmama. Click to buy.
What is her carbon footprint?
When greenhouse pumps water and grow lights nurture seeds.
What is their carbon footprint?
When blooms jostle and strain for light in stocked freight on an overnight haul.
What is their carbon footprint?
When the forklift unloads pallets at an air conditioned, distribution center.
What is their carbon footprint?
When a grandmother texts a Saturday gardening invitation.
What is her carbon footprint?
When a driver reviews the daily manifest of a tightly packed van.
What is his carbon footprint?
When an old dog barks at a smiling delivery man, she waves with gratitude.
What is her carbon footprint?
When a little climbs into her seat and buckles up for a quick jaunt across town.
What is her carbon footprint?
When old and young hands gently part carefully nurtured soil.
What is their carbon footprint?
When tender green roots reach deep into fresh bed of soil.
Is this carbon neutral?
