Time on track

Daily writing promptWhich activities make you lose track of time?View all responses

Tracks of time lost
Losing track or…

Time’s tracks don’t
Run off track

Losing track of
Self at a time

Losing self to time
Or from time

To quote the philosopher poet Marshall Mathers, “You better lose yourself in the moment.”

I’d like to say that I’ve gotten to the point where I’m losing myself, where my focus is narrow and time slips away on things that are of value to me. My family, activities I enjoy, but it is generally work drudgery. If I’m allowed to focus, not torn by the meetings, and distractions. They are legion.

I don’t know, woke up in fighting spirit. Not sure if that is good or not yet.

Oh, bother

Daily writing promptWhat bothers you and why?View all responses

Oh bother, such bothers
Bothering, botheringly

Bothers empowered by
Bothering to bother

All the bother and fuss
All the as if we must

Don’t bother, to bother
And bothers, won’t bother

Or at least don’t bother
Bothering other people

Very certain

Daily writing promptList 10 things you know to be absolutely certain.View all responses

Certainly be
cautious of
certain offers
In certainty

Absolutes
Absolutely
Unavailable

Unknown
Unknowns
Absolute
Certainty

I learned something preparing this post. I have been living with the idea that there are three spheres of knowledge, known knowns, known unknowns, and unknown unknowns. You can imagine that they are nested within one another, concentric rings that are each larger until the final which is unknown in scale. Appropriately so.

My understanding is that this connected back to Aristotle, a mistaken reference, It is not that old, but references a Johari Window. Which is considerate of others, link to the image is here.

I do enjoy the nested circles with a consideration of scale and humility that should be drawn from thinking in this way. This model is also called the Rumsfeld Model, which makes this style of thinking incredibly contemporary, where I thought it had a classical origin. Rumsfeld being Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld.

Regardless, anyone who trades in certainties, should be viewed with a skeptical eye. There are some items we are pretty confident in, but it is important to do your own thinking on any topic.

Adventures await

Daily writing promptAre you seeking security or adventure?View all responses

Adventure awaits
After this email…

A whole world to travel
And a mortgage to pay
Monthly…

A flight and a hotel abroad
Only costs how much?

Oh the places we could go
But who will watch the pets

Maybe a drive to the coast
But these kids can be quite…

Adventure awaits
Responsibilities weigh

An invitation

Daily writing promptIf you could host a dinner and anyone you invite was sure to come, who would you invite?View all responses

One last meal
An invitation
into the pale

One last meal
The left behind
Left us behind

One last meal
Checking in
Have you seen

One last meal
Before you go
Leave us again

One last meal
Your time is up
But not ours

One last meal
Maybe a beer
Or just hello

I think this prompt is all about celebrity worship, I’m sure there will be plenty of politicians and business leaders on the list of responses. As if some great value would be gained by a meal, when everything people at that level do is for their own gain. Which is fine, but not who I want to share a meal with.

Life gets better with age

Daily writing promptWhat do you think gets better with age?View all responses

Experience accumulates
Accomplishments compound

Perspective expansion
Knowledge matures

Wisdom germinates
Patience flourishes

If you let it
If you try

Humility propagates
Age’s endowments

I’m confident that we all know people who have not improved with age, who never seem to mature. For a variety of reasons. There is a sadness there, but not one anyone can do anything about.

“An unexamined life is not worth living,” is attributed to Socrates. The willingness to look at yourself as a flawed human being who and learn from one’s mistakes. And then correct is about humility. Not being damagingly self deprecating, but saying. “I tried, I learned, I’ll try again. Maybe I’ll fail again. And I’ll try again.” in a constructive and light hearted, but meaningful way. I think it is hard, not saying I’ve got it right. It does beat the alternative though.

Early to bed

Daily writing promptWhat time do you go to bed and wake up currently?View all responses

Early to bed
Early to rise

Makes a man
Mostly tired

Never enough
Sleep in a day

Much too much
Work anyway

Plenty of hustle
Lacking in rest

A guy can do
Only his best

No matter how tired I am, I never seem to get enough sleep. I was talking to my brother about how our father always seemed to wake up early. He never slept in, always was awake before everyone. There is a bit of it that was about getting ready for the day, and a bit that was about capturing the bit of quiet before the family woke up. Now, no matter what I’m awake before the crowd. Trying to make the best of it, is all anyone can do.

Comfortable path

Daily writing promptWhat strategies do you use to increase comfort in your daily life?View all responses

Comfort seeking,
Daily path toward

Comfortable repose,
Inevitable conclusion

Comfort decays,
Purposeful living

Comfort consumes,
Live productively

It would be a bit brash to say that small comforts should be passed upon in favor of discomfort. But I think comfort for its own sake serves little purpose. I do enjoy my morning coffee and quiet, not fully into the morning ice baths. It is just hard for me to believe that we are here to be comfortable, to suck up resources then die. There has to be more than that.

Prompt Reflection

Daily writing promptWhat could you let go of, for the sake of harmony?View all responses

Prompt to reflect upon,
Mirror to myself or us

Future harmony planned,
Current strife expected

Prompted life revision,
Oh, thank you WordPress

Eyeroll.

A little snarky as today, working on my first cup of coffee. The language of the prompt is a bit annoying, a lot of implications, probably fair ones, but still a lot implied. Not sure what is expected and I’m hoping this isn’t a future tone of prompts.

Regardless, minor win. I’ve been getting crushed, probably 40-90 spam hits a day, for weeks, that I need to block or remove from an account, multiple emails all with the name Bokep. I ended up locking down the posts that they targeted from comments. It has been a week, and I hope that I’m not summoning them back.

Anyway, be safe, have a good Sunday.
