You don’t have to question your blessings.
listen, if you are being granted the opportunity, if you are being asked to be in the room, you don’t have to second guess why. you don’t have to question your blessings. no, not anymore.
Joel Leon
You have nothing to prove! One of the best lessons that I have learnt over the last few yearsIf you are in the room, there is nothing to prove or show off about, all that is required is courage, honesty, willingness and a dose of humilityNow, how is that for showing up in a room, ready to do the business?PeaceRead about Akosua's Journey on A Tribe of Women Blog

Step into the Now
My Mind is Preoccupied with past thoughts
- ACIM
Looking at the present through the filter of the past alone puts us at a disadvantage, particularly when the past was full of hurt, fear and disappointment.
When we hold the past against the present, we are not leaving room for anything new. Old tapes keep popping up in our head replaying what has happened not as a lesson but as a barrier.
Of course, it is feedback and it can assist in moving forward, this is dependent on how we process and see the lessons of the past.
The challenge is are we living in the past and making decisions from that place
The challenge is are we staying stuck in the past
How can you move from the past?
You can forgive
You can use the past as feedback only
You can let go of grievances
You can be courageous
You can live in the present moment
Be present
Be mindful of how you are bringing the past into the present
Peace

Every Step Forward is Progress
Just because you are committed to moving forward doesn’t mean you have to move at any certain speed. Think about how slowly mountains are made. Think about how islands build up from the sea floor until they finally break the surface. Progress is progress. Keep moving.
Maggie Smith
How many of us want to do certain activities by a certain date?
I know for me, I was a girl who wanted certain things by a certain age, I was so focused on that I based my success on that formula.
So if by a certain date and age it did not happen, I lived in complete belief that I was doing something wrong or something had to be fixed.
And that was my modus operandi, after I picked myself up from the "failure" I would set up a programme to succeed and fix it.
What I have learnt is that life in not linear, there is never a straight line to any where in this life. I have also learnt that my timing is not the clock by which this world runs, there is Divine timing and that is always on time and in time.
I have learnt that every single step forward is progress and Divine timing is real.
This works well when I let go of control- control is like a drug. Its addictive. Wanting to control the outcome, is an indication that we are doing life right, leave nothing to chance they say.
The Universe is not punishing us by taking its time, there are lessons that only time can teach us, there are tools that we can only receive by learning what patience is. Every single moment is important and so are the lessons.
Peace

The Goal is to not let Fear Stop You
Stop letting fear be the excuse. Let it be your fuel. The goal isn’t to be fearless. It’s to not let it stop you. Feel the fear, but do it anyway
. Mattie James
I committed this month to an exercise and training programme. It started off very well, the excitement and adrenaline and then I got the cold, so much so that I was coughing and could not train
Now, the funny thing is that I hardly ever get a cold, its quite rare
So I was doing some internal analysis and I realised that it was a mixture of fear and discomfort.
My body just shut down!
How powerful are our minds? We can internalise something and it shows up in our lives and in an external form.
So, seeing that knowledge is power, I got up this morning, and made my way to training, knowing that this fear is a fuel, it is not to stop me.
How many times have I started and stopped a task because of fear, because I internalised it and it literally stopped me from moving?
Learning that I can use fear as a fuel rather than store it up in my body is an important lesson for me as I navigate this new year
Peace!

The Power of the Pause
Affirm: I will direct my attention, focus, and time towards what expands me, evolve me, and grows me on all levels. I am owning my greatness from this moment on
. Idil Ahmed
Last November I had the opportunity to visit Ghana on their Year of Return programme.
The Year of Return, Ghana 2019 is an initiative of the government of Ghana that is intended to encourage African diasporans to come to Africa (specifically Ghana) to settle and invest in the continent.
This was my first time to Ghana, having lived and visited other countries on the East and South of the Continent, I was excited to see the West for the first time
Trust me, it did not disappoint. The people were friendly, the country is beautiful, being there filed me with a hope and a pride that I cannot even explain.
Visiting the Door of No Return was my highlight,
As I exited the dungeon at the Cape Coast, where thousands of us passed the Door Of No Return to arrive in the Americas, I had to pause.
I had to pause to remember that the DNA in me has courage, resilence, determination, honour & grace.
I had to pause to be grateful to be here now & to have the opportunity to return.
I had to pause to remind myself to never take anything for granted.
I had to pause to remember the responsibility that I have to myself, to those who arrived here & made it possible for me to live this life that I now live. To remember the reponsibility that I have to leave this world better than I found it.
I had to pause to remind myself to know who I am. To absolutely stop dignifying nonsense.& to show up everywhere knowing that although I come as one I stand with tens of thousands.
Peace

Challenge Yourself to Go Within
These new goals of mine require different habits from me.
Rob Hill Sr
As Lauren Hills sang "how you gonna win when you a'int right within?"
Some of the goals, the objectives and the vision that we have for ourselves require us to develop new and different qualities
It may be discipline, commitment, surrendering, abundance thinking. We tend to think of our actions to achieve a goal as the external activities that must happen to lead us there. I want to suggest that there must be a balance of the external and internal. Let's say you want to be financially independent of debts. Part of that is developing the discipline to pay the amount due on at the assigned time, avoiding procrastination and the surrender to the whims of purchasing items to escape.
All of those qualities are internal. You alone are responsible for this happening.
Going within requires courage - an essential quality required to achieve any life goal.
To face one self with with honesty is sometimes tough.
Going within requires stillness - many of us are not ready to sit still for even ten minutes.
So, I challenge you to think about some of the internal qualities that you will require as you navigate your way into 2020.

I DeClare
Nothing I accept about myself can be used against me to diminish me. — Audre Lorde
It is rare that I make resolutions
Don’t want them to haunt me in the dead of night
Each day guilted by all the things I said I would or would not do
I only do what I want, when I want
With a full heart or not at all & the rest will have to settle somewhere between my lips & my intention
I don’t DeClare often
But there comes a day
When I am more than dependable woman
More than what I’ve accomplished or seek to & as that day approaches
Know this:
I declare to remember how to love
In the face of hurt in my heart
I will love you, that’s me
Foolishly, at times, but courageous
I vow to forgive
To ignite the soft of me & surrender to that knowledge that everything ain’t gonna grow like I grow
Aint gonna’ know what I know, how I know & that is ok
There is still love in letting go
I commit to love myself
To honour this girl with dreams she can’t stomach yet but works hard to
In the morning, I will pray to a God I hope to be more like & she will laugh Knowing I have forgotten already that she loves me unconditionally
Just a girl wanting more & more & more
But having everything I already need
I commit to laugh hardest when life is most challenging
I promise to share the lessons on the Journey with excitement
I promise to be excited
to honour the elders & listen to their stories, even those on full repeat.
To watch intently as the Bodacious Nina girls blossom
I promise to be there for them how they want me to be & none of this comes easy
None of it will be overnight
I might be scared & stubborn at first & when I am
I vow to lean into it
To let life make a masterpiece of me
To be a thank you note to the Universe
To say what needs to be said in the moment & trust that I am prepared
I vow to listen to the way God moves & be moved
I promise to let this fire rage
To drink more water & carry this body like a gift
I promise to breathe on purpose - every breath is blessed responsibility & to love without fear
I DeClare. I vow. I promise

2019 Top Lessons
you don’t have to downplay your success to balance out their mediocrity. Joel Leon
What I learned in 2019 will continue to be the backbone of all that I do.
#whatdidIlearn
Courage is not simple or easy.It takes practice, its not only for heros & the super self confident but for the everyday person who has done her share of the inner work knowing that its all lessons & the dots all connect at some point.I've learnt that I don’t have everyone else’s answers, but having walked the path where at one time I didn’t like who I was becoming gives me the capacity & container to hold space for those who I recognise are now unconsciously on that path.I've learnt that I can let go & that is different to giving up.I've learnt that because I have gotten more comfortable with not obsessively needing “to control everything" that I can stand a little taller, be a lot less swayed by doubt, square my shoulders, & speak the words that feel like my truth, even when it makes others & even me uncomfortableFeel free to share your top lessonsPeace

Let No-Thing Define You
"
Don't be defined by what you didn't know or didn't do. You're deciding your life right now.”
Meg Jay
Around this time, many people look at their last goals, dreams and objectives. Some people focus on what they did not do, did not achieve and beat themselves up, feel guilty and take action from that space.
Others, look at what they did achieve as a demonstration that they can indeed achieve.
Some learn the lessons.
I have learnt that there has to be a balance. The balance of taking the lessons and celebrating the wins, knowing that making decisions from the balance is for your best. So many times we define ourselves by what we have, what is seen. Some of the best lessons sometimes comes from the qualities that you have developed on the journey to that particular goal or dream
The self belief
The faith
The discipline
The people who show you that they are in your corner
The self love
The realisation that self care is important
So many lessons in realising that when I am heading towards a goal, I was really just chasing a feeling.
I wanted to feel loved, appreciated, wanted, validated forgetting that all of that is in me and when others highlight it, its only icing on the cake.
Do not let any-thing define you!
Peace
