KING ARTHUR'S SISTER IN WASHINGTON'S COURT by Mark Twain as channeled by Kim Iverson Headlee

Official genre of book: Science Fiction - Fantasy crossover

WINNER 2016 IBPA Benjamin Franklin Gold Medal for Science Fiction & Fantasy.
Morgan le Fay, sixth-century Queen of Gore and the only major character not killed off by Mark Twain in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, vows revenge upon the Yankee Hank Morgan. She casts a spell to take her to 1879 Connecticut so she may waylay Sir Boss before he can travel back in time to destroy her world. But the spell misses by 300 miles and 200 years, landing her in the Washington, D.C., of 2079, replete with flying limousines, hovering office buildings, virtual-reality television, and sundry other technological marvels.
Whatever is a time-displaced queen of magic and minions to do? Why, rebuild her kingdom, of course—two kingdoms, in fact: as Campaign Boss for the reelection of American President Malory Beckham Hinton, and as owner of the London Knights world-champion baseball franchise.
Written as though by the old master himself, King Arthur’s Sister in Washington’s Court by Mark Twain as channeled by Kim Iverson Headlee offers laughs, love, and a candid look at American society, popular culture, politics, baseball... and the human heart.

“Pray, proceed, Darla, as I seem to have paid for it.”
“This is about a man—the dishy one you’re always coming in here with.”
“Brilliant. Yes, the dishy one. Dishy, and treacherous.” I took a long pull of bitters.
“Lor’ love ye, madame; but all men are treacherous! If you’re lucky, that’s all he is.”
I reflected, through another draught, upon this spot of rough wisdom. Of all the men I had ever known, biblically or not, in this century or any other, the only man I could not label as “treacherous” was Sir Galahad, and we all know what happened to him. For the couple of you who might not be privy to the story: in brief, Sir Galahad drank from the Holy Grail and fell down dead, reportedly because his soul was so pure that Our Lord God bustled him straightaway to heaven. The fact that Sir Galahad had always acted so damned self-righteous that his Grail-hunting companions had wearied of his holier-than-thou ways probably had nothing whatever to do with his demise. I said:
“I have treachery aplenty in my life, Darla.” Free agents, not-free agents, other players, managers, coaches…the list seemed endless. “I do not need more from Sandy Carter.”
“But you do need his love.”
I shook my head. “With love like that…”
She was not listening, but had looked toward the line of tall windows fronting the street, across which arched the words “nnI dleiftuO” and, in a revolving pattern of white, blue, and red tube-lights, “NEPO.” I would have taken umbrage at the offense—the server’s, not the fact that the words in the windows appeared backward to my vantage—but I had imbibed too much beer to care.
Darla said, “You need his love…and he needs yours. Look.”

Strung Out by Lyrica Creed

byLyrica Creed
Official genre of book: Contemporary Romance/ Rock Band Romance
Editor: The Pedantic Punctuator
Cover Designer: Book Bangs

Finding my best friend and getting the hell out of California is top priority. Especially as the relationship with my rockstar stepbrother becomes more complicated with each passing day...
I’m on the tour bus partying!
The text from my best friend, Ivy is one of her last. When weeks stretch with no further contact, I travel to L.A. to track down the band known as Rageon and find Ivy.
As the daughter of a groupie mom, and of a rock star father who fatally overdosed, I know the dangers of the world my friend disappeared into.
My ex-stepbrother, Gage, a musician who’s just come off tour invites me to crash at his place.
The last time I saw Gage in person, we were teens. He's a popular presence on social media, so I’m prepared for the tattoo-covered rocker who answers my knock. What I’m not expecting to find is that the sweet, sensitive teen I grew up with is now an irresponsible, partying playboy who lives for his next fix.
As the search for Ivy narrows, my relationship with my rockstar stepbrother becomes more complicated. The tingling tug of attraction toward him is unexpected--and unacceptable. First, we’re practically siblings. Most importantly, I’ll never allow myself to fall for a musician, especially one with a drug addiction.
Gage teams up with me to find Ivy, introducing me into the right circles and guarding my secrets.
My search for Ivy takes me places I never wanted to go...
And my heart is an unwilling passenger on that dark ride.

I was falling in love with him. Either I had been since my teen crush days and had right this second realized it, or I had fallen hard—yesterday morning with seven words.
I would have taken care of you.
Did he have feelings for me? Or did he watch me with fire in his eyes and continuously make up excuses to touch me out of desire only?
Rock stars. Bad.
I worked on my self-brainwashing technique.
Rock stars. Trouble.
But Gage was Gage. The boy who had taken care of me. The man who wanted to...
A few more measures drifted over the pool and then dwindled to a pause. “You ever going to order the linguine?” he asked.
We had hashed over what we wanted for dinner and had decided on Pace, an Italian restaurant that delivered in the area.
“What are you going to do when I leave?” I grumbled about the chore and didn’t immediately leave my comfortable position to wade over to my phone.
Was my leaving getting to him too? His eyes seemed sad and distant for a moment before he recovered and retorted. “Same thing I did before you showed. Throw wild parties. Fill the pool with naked models who will order me food and bring me drinks.”
I laughed. But the sound seemed fake to my ears. The thought of nude women doing Gage’s every bidding was so not funny to me. But since he was being big brother taunting me, I served up sassy-little-sister-on-a-stick right back. “You sure you had all that going on? Pool looks empty to me. When I came I was hoping you’d have parties with hot rock stars hanging all day.”
One second later, he had vacated the chair and was in the water. Five seconds later, he’d reached my teak island and was hauling me off as I screeched.
“You need to cool off, little mermaid!”
“No, I don’t. I really don’t.”
His grip relaxed, allowing me to slide down his front until I was standing in the knee-deep water. When I shivered, it wasn’t because I’d cooled off! Quite the opposite.
“What would you do with these hot rock stars?” His challenge was a husky rumble near one of my ears.
My gaze glided from the hand underwater on my waist, up his arm, taking in the decorative ink—barbed wire music scores ran up the inside of his arm and beginning at the bend, spiraled up his biceps and triceps. “Hot rock star… Half naked in the pool…” I used his own images against him. “Hmm. I don’t know…”
In retaliation, he hooked an arm beneath my knees, prepared to unbalance me.
“Don’t… I don’t want to be all wet again…” I was laughing so hard at his antics, I didn’t immediately grasp what I’d said until his expression became even more animated.
“No? Are you sure?”
I’d hiked head-on into that one. His eyes were still alight with mischief. But they also glittered dark and dangerous. In the position he had maneuvered me into, he could drop me, and I’d fall backward, dunking under before I caught myself. Or he could hold me closer… and kiss me…
Either way, I’d end up wet.
“Very sure.” It took every ounce of willpower to force the two words out.
I could call Derrick as soon as my plane landed in Belize. Or I’d have a fling. What I wouldn’t do was cross what was becoming a very thin line—perhaps even a dotted one—between stepbrother and lover.
The plunge into the water startled me. I’d been so sure Gage wouldn’t drop me when I’d drifted for a few seconds into my thoughts. My elbows hit the smooth bottom, and I pushed above the water, sputtering and wiping the hair from my face.
“You ass!” I skimmed the surface with my hands, raining a series of splashes until he was deluged and dripping.
He didn’t even fight back, simply shot one of his smirks and hastened back to his chair and his ever-ringing phone.

Rise of Alpha by Lorenz Font

Official genre of book: Young Adult/Urban Fantasy/Coming-of-age

All Brian Morrison wants is to be an ordinary teenager with normal teenage problems, but his uncontrollable twitching and phonic tics make that impossible. The butt of jokes in school, he is nothing but a laughing-stock until a visit to a local tarot shop turns his life upside-down.
The psychic’s strange prediction thrusts him into a mysterious world of ghastly creatures and bizarre events, and he must come to terms with the abrupt changes if he is going to survive. One mother’s plea for help presents him with an impossible challenge, but it also brings him closer to the most popular girl in school. Brian must overcome threats from all sides to honor his promise, and he is determined to succeed. His heart won’t let him turn his back on someone in need, especially when he’s fallen in love with her.
Protecting Shannon McKesson soon becomes the greatest purpose of his life. Brian discovers many things on this new journey, but the biggest one might be the truth about who he is. If only he and Shannon can stay alive long enough to unlock the mystery.

VOYANT’s purple neon sign welcomed us when we walked into the dark, rather dingy room. The scent of burning incense was heavy, and I faltered, not digging the eerie atmosphere. The black walls were lined with wall hangings of different tarot card characters, which seemed to be smirking at anyone dumb enough to buy their bogus predictions. Mark glanced over his shoulder at me with an unspoken challenge, leaving me no choice but to follow him to the counter.
The girl behind the counter looked up, her expression one of boredom. I recognized her immediately and stopped in my tracks, my mouth gaping open.
Shannon McKesson?
Whoa! Shannon was the epitome of popularity. She was pretty in that girl-next-door type of way. Her blond hair bounced on her shoulders like girls’ did in television commercials. Her eyes were bluer than my mother’s, and she had that mature persona most teenagers would die for. I had been watching her all these years, unable to take my eyes off her whenever she drove her yellow Beetle into the school parking lot or walked through the campus with the sure kind of grace only confident people possessed.
Darryl shifted next to me and pushed my chin up, closing my mouth. I coughed, realizing I’d already made my first blunder of the night. And it didn’t even have anything to do with my tics.
“Hi, Shannon. We’re here for a tarot reading. I called earlier to make an appointment,” Mark said, sounding like a real tarot junkie.
“Oh, yeah. Larry, Curly, and Moe.” She hopped off the barstool and checked off our names in the appointment book.
Mark and Darryl quickly pointed at me. “He’s Curly!”
Of all the things these bastards could do, they had to put me in the spotlight. They knew I hated the attention. I felt my face burning from embarrassment but decided to play along, shuffling my feet for maximum effect. What came next was a reward for my efforts. Shannon laughed, the sound a sweet mix of tolling bells.

River of Love by Melissa Foster

River rafting and adventure company owner Sam Braden works hard and plays harder. He's fast, focused, and determined--and never at a loss for a willing woman to share his time with. The trouble is, the only woman he wants refuses him at every turn.
Physician assistant Faith Hayes escaped her painful past and built a safe, happy life in Peaceful Harbor. She's also put what she's learned to good use helping others by founding Women Against Cheaters, an online support group. When her boss's sinfully sexy brother sets his sights on sweet Faith, she knows the self-professed player is everything she shouldn't want, and she's determined to resist him.
Sam pulls out all the stops, proving to Faith that his past doesn't have to define his future. As she lets down her guard and begins to trust Sam, intense conversations turn to intimate pleasures. But when real life steps in and their pasts collide, it's Faith who's left with something to prove.

Chapter One
DUKE RYDER BALANCED his cell phone against his shoulder, listening to his buddy and investment partner Pierce Braden talk about their newest potential investment property as he followed the rickety wooden dock onto the white sandy beach.
A MAN COULD take a wedding for only so long before he drank too much booze or left with a warm, willing woman to wash away all that purity. Sam Braden stood with a drink in one hand and a greedy itch in the other, debating doing both.
“I’ll take the redhead if you want the brunette.” Ty, his youngest brother, lifted his chin in the direction of the bar. In addition to being a world-renowned mountain climber and photographer, Ty was also Sam’s carousing partner. “Unless you’re double-dipping tonight, in which case I’ll go for one of the Staley sisters.”
Sam scoffed. Been there, done them.
He spotted two blondes slinking across the dance floor toward them. He’d hooked up with the one who was currently eye-fucking him last month, and the redhead Ty had been ogling moments ago had joined them in their hot, sweaty romp. His gaze shifted to the sexy brunette standing by the bar looking like she wanted to jump over it and hide behind it but she couldn’t quite figure out how. Faith Hayes. He’d been trying not to look at Faith all night, but he was losing that battle. Faith worked in Sam’s brother Cole’s medical practice. She was sweet, and good, and smart, and… Sam should not be thinking about laying her on the bar and doing dirty things to her gorgeous body.
No. He definitely should not.
Every time he looked at her, every time he thought of her—which was every damn day—that feeling of wanting more than a few quick hookups resurfaced. He not only wanted to lay her down on the bar, but he wanted to take her home. That was bizarre, too, since as a rule Sam never took any woman to his cabin. But half his visits with Cole at his office were merely made-up opportunities to get a glimpse of Faith. He didn’t fully understand his fascination with her, considering he usually preferred the kind of woman who wanted to jump him and damn well knew how, but there was no denying the stirring inside him every time she was near. He forced himself to look away and focused on the dance floor, where Cole, their eldest brother, danced with his new wife, Leesa, and just beyond, their younger brother Nate and his fiancée, Jewel, were gazing into each other’s eyes. Weren’t they always? Sam used to get hives just thinking about being tied down—unless, of course, it was to a bed. But he couldn’t deny how happy his brothers seemed since they’d fallen in love, and lately he’d begun feeling as if he were missing out on something.
The tall blonde sidled up to Sam, blocking his view of Faith and blinking flirtatiously, while her friend joined Ty. “You boys look lonely.”
“Ladies,” Sam said smoothly, bringing his attention back to the pretty girls who definitely knew how to use their bodies for the good of mankind.

She left the room the same time Sky did, and all I could do was hope Sky wouldn’t tell her the truth on the elevator ride down. I knew she would pry.
My thoughts were preoccupied with pastel pink, blue, and yellow baby thoughts instead of the mint green, light pink, and pale gray colors of the wedding.
I couldn’t focus on anything. The Christmas holiday blurred by. Abby had a good Christmas with Sky; that was all that really mattered to me.
I had always been pretty good at keeping secrets, but this one was killing me. It had been about a week since I’d found out the news, and I needed to talk to someone, anyone, but I couldn’t. I wasn’t supposed to let anyone know until after the wedding. Jeff demanded that.
Jeff wouldn’t talk to me about the baby either. He flat out told me on the ride home from the hospital not to talk about it with him. He said he would ‘deal with it’ when he was forced to. I knew he wasn’t happy, but I didn’t even know how I should feel about that comment.
I should have been excited with a wedding and a baby on the horizon, but I felt like I wasn’t allowed to be.
Mom had returned from her holiday trip. I wanted so badly to tell her, but I knew better. The judgmental comments would roll in like tsunami waves. It would be ten times worse than when I told her about being pregnant with Abby. At least Sky and I were married when I got pregnant with her.

All Taylor wanted to do was go home after her long shift. First the tire blew out, then her cell phone battery was dead. Her night had become a complete disaster.
Her choices were limited – she could walk to a convenience store a half mile away in heels, or go a few blocks to an after-hours motorcycle bar.
Opting to save her feet, she chose to visit the bar and ignored the previous warnings by a couple of her friends.
What could happen? A few motorcycle clubbers whistling and complimenting her? She’d readily welcome that after the night she’d had.

“Ladies get your fire department on standby and extra pair of panties ready because this book is going to be melting those reading devices and leaving you very wet.”
“Talk about getting down and dirty…Taylor is one nasty little sex kitten who knows what she wants, and once she admits it, will go to any length to get it.”
“This is one smoking hot read! It's definitely a panty melter!”

“So, now that you don’t have anyone coming for you, you want and need our help. Right?” Diesel asked.
Taylor nodded her head. “Yeah.”
His eyes narrowed and became darker. The look on his face was sinister. “Well.” He cleared his throat. “It’s going to cost you.”
Taylor rubbed her hand across her forehead. She dug around in her purse to find her wallet. Once she had it in her hand, she searched to see how much cash she had. She rolled her eyes. Twenty-four fucking dollars. She looked through her credit cards. “Will you take a credit card?”
He reached out and wrapped his long fingers around her hand that was holding the wallet. “We don’t want your money,” Diesel said while he shook his head. He chuckled.
“What …what do you want from me?” Taylor felt her knees buckling slightly. “How am I supposed to pay you?” She had a feeling what he wanted. She wasn’t completely opposed. Diesel was super-hot.
Diesel let the back of his fingertips glide down the side of her face until his hand was under her chin. He held her jaw in his grasp and turned her head slightly to make sure she was looking at him. “I think you already know what the payment is. As a matter of fact, I’d be willing to bet you’re already wet just thinking about it.”
Her heart beat faster. Taylor knew he was right. She could feel her wetness pooling between her thighs. Her panties were more than a little damp and her sex clenched.
Bull moved behind her and placed his warm hands gently on her shoulders. He kneaded his thumbs along the sides of her neck. Taylor leaned her head back as she basked in the fantastic massage. She exhaled her breath and relaxed under his touch.

Nikki Lynn Barrett: I'm an avid lover of books. I've been writing as far back as I can remember, completing my first "book" by fifth grade in one of those one subject spiral notebooks. I have a passion for music, photography, jewelry and all things creative. I live in Arizona with my husband and son, but dream of being somewhere much colder and stormier. For now, I'll have to live that life through my characters and stick it out with the summer heat.
