You must read this AFTER~~~ TAKEN!! This is a Novella!!

Kasha is packing all her stuff up she is graduating and will be heading home soon to Gram. She is excited to see her Gram its been two years since she has been home but first she has some things to finish up at school then she can go. It's always been Gram and Kasha, Gram raised Kasha after her mom disappeared when she was 9 years old. She doesn't know why her mother left or what happened to make her leave. She has Gram and that is what matters to her.

Mage felt very strongly about the cycle of life and that the past, the present, and the future were all connected by a stream of energy. She knows something is coming for her but she doesn't know what it is yet. She needs to keep Kasha safe no matter what. Since Mage knew her time was short she prepared everything for Kasha to find. Knowing that she would need to know all about who she is and what her potential is.

I love this story we learn all about Mage (Kasha's grandmom) and their relationship. We learn about Mage's powers and some information on Aurora not much though. I really enjoyed this Novella and look forward to more from Felicia Starr.

I had the great pleasure to read this as a beta reader. This is a great story that sheds some light on the events that lead up to Taken. Many new plot lines are introduced and the plot really thickens. This is a novella and like many novellas, it gives a lot of background information and answers some questions that arose in Taken. It is written from both Kasha and Gram's point of view and gives us an idea of what life was like before Kasha was abducted in Taken. I really enjoyed this story, as I do with all Felicia's work. It was really interesting to see Kasha in a different environment. However, it did leave me with a whole bunch of new questions and scenarios which is making me very eager to get my hands on Betrayed. This is an amazing and unique series and it drew me in from the very start.

Even though this was only a novella, it was filled with so much back story and so much interesting information, much of which sparked even more stories as moments from book one were given more clarity, whilst even more suspense and intrigued was added to the mix.

Although I knew the inevitable outcome of this story, I still hoped that Gram would have been able to stave off her attacker. The events of this novella have fueled my need to read the next book, and I only hope that those evil enough to destroy such a beautiful soul will be brought to justice.

This was a great set up and back story for the rest of the series.

I got the opportunity to be a beta reader for this book and am so excited about it! I loved Taken and this book brings everything to a whole new level. Marked is about the series of events that occurred before Kasha was taken. It enlightens the reader and brings a new understanding of what might really be happening to Kasha, who may be involved, and how everything and everyone is connected. It is a short book and a very fast read as you will find yourself at the edge of your seat racing to find out more. It may even bring you to tears.

This is a good concept and has interesting possibilities. However, the writing style is clumsy and didactic. There is too much back story and repetition to make it completely enjoyable. It needs a great deal of editing to become the story it can be.

Review:

Loved the background story of Kasha’s grandmother, Magenta Alexander. New questions come to light. Has Kasha been betrayed by even more people? I really am enjoying this series. I will have to keep my eye out for any further releases.
The plot shows us what happened to Kasha’s grandmother. It also shows us the regrets that Magenta had not explaining more to Kasha. The love between Kasha and her Grandmother is evident. There is much packed into this novella. It does get a little intense. The ending pretty much takes us to the beginning of the story Taken. There is not much character development, but this novella is more of an explanation. I suggest that you read both Taken and Betrayed before you read this novella.

Review is Here

Some answers answered, but new questions arise!!!

So warning for ya, this was a novella meant to be read AFTER Taken by Felicia Starr <--- that book so if you haven't probably best not to read this review or this book

Second warning I received this in exchange for an honest review, and that is what I do so yeah *boop* runs away

Okay since this would be really hard to figure out a song for I am not going to, well I will say "Murder in the City" by the Avett Brothers, but that is my only choice ;)

I am going to skip first thoughts also because I feel like I will just end up repeating myself.

Thoughts on Plot: I really appreciated that Felicia went for the not so common MC for this, we definitely get a new insight of the world that we are introduced to in Taken. There are other things that confirmed a few things for me, but it also made 100 new questions that i want answered XD So anyways moving on from that, it was interesting to learn about Gram from her perspective. This novella really gives the reader a new insight and i highly, highly recommend it if you are in love/in like with the Breaking the Darkness Series. There were heart-racing moments, and great travesties as well <3

Characters or Character?

Grams: She was protective and caring she was willing to do anything for her granddaughter. She was alive, fun and she was a great MC. She was very smart and a enjoy to read in her POV

Ending: well if you read Taken you know <3

Make sure to read Taken before you read Marked, otherwise there will be spoilers for Taken.
Marked is the story about both gram and Kasha, and the events that leads up to Taken.
Kasha is about to finish up college, and is packing up the last four years of her life.
Her grandmother, Mage is getting ready to have Kasha home again and preparing for the Herb and Lavender Festival.
But things are about to change; a storm is brewing in the horizon will change many things for both Mage and Kasha. Will they both find their way out of it?
Marked is a wonderful continuation of Breaking the Darkness Series. As I said, Marked shows us some of the events that leads up to Taken, and while it explains a lot of the things that happens in Taken, Marked also raises new questions, and makes me long to read Betrayed even more.
I absolutely love how spiritual Mage is, and the insight we get into her world, and how she views the world. Absolutely amazing! What she can do with her tonics and teas – you wouldn’t believe it! Mage’s special teas is exactly what brings Mage into trouble, facing people she thought she could trust, and new ones who aren’t showing her all their cards. I was biting my nails, hoping for the best, turning page after page and holding my breath until the very end.
If you loved Taken, Marked is definitely for you!

Make sure to read Taken first because there are spoilers in this prequel.

In Marked we learn more about Kasha’s Gram, Mage. The timeline is set in the days before and during the terrible accident. Some questions are answered and more is created. Signs are given and danger lurks in the shadows. Find out what really happened to Kasha’s Gram.

Marked is a nice addition to the Darkness series. I was taken in by this vibrant grandma who would do anything to protect her beloved granddaughter. Felicia Starr done a great job tying in this story of the past in with what is going on in Taken, book 1 and I have this sneaking suspicion that I will see more play into book 2, Betrayed. She helps bring the elusive grandmother to life for us and helps us see why Mage hid truth from her granddaughter her whole life. Betrayed is a tale of life and death. I advise reading Marked, because it adds to the overall story.

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

Magenta “Mage” could feel that something was coming. It was bad and she knew her time was running out. Her granddaughter Kasha had no clue to her family tree or secrets. Mage did her best to bring up Kasha right. Kasha’s mother, Aurora was sort of a trouble child. She struggled with her gift. When she was older Aurora took off and then returned with baby Kasha. She soon left Kasha with Mage and they haven’t heard from her since. Now that something was coming for her, Mage wished she had more time. Kasha needed to know where she came from and who she is!

Loved this short! I love Mage very much. Very protective and loving. Again I have fallen in love with the mystical world Felicia Starr has created. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t put it down! It was a nice little something before the next book which I am not so patiently waiting! I give this 5 stars

This little novella was a great insight into what happened to Mage (Kasha’s Grams) before Taken. It made me suspicious of a few characters I had started to question while I was reading Taken and it also filled in some blanks about Grams’ intentions with taking to Kasha before she died. It did answer a few questions about a few other side characters but also left some still unanswered and left some whole new ones. It definitely has spoilers to Taken so even though the events of Marked take place first, I highly recommend reading Taken first. I really hope book 2 comes out soon because these books have managed to leave me intrigued and asking all kinds of questions.

*This book was provided to me by the publisher for an honest review. I am a new fan of this author (after reading the first book in the series)
Marked is the novella in the Breaking Darkness series between the first and second books. This book was well written and added greatly to the storyline and answered a lot of questions and helped fill in some gaps that the first book had you wondering about.
It was a quick and lovely read that helped gear you up for the second novel in the series.

Intriguing

"Marked" has a great hook. It filled in the blanks from the first installment "Taken," while setting up new questions and mysteries. What are Phaela's true motives? Does Patience really know what is going on? What the heck happened to Axel? Who is Nate, really? I have my suspicions...
Will we see more of Kasha's friends and acquaintances in later installments? I think some of them are more connected than we realize...
We need to know more about Aurora. Is she really good, evil, or just trapped?
Yay!! I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Thrilling

If you liked Taken then you shouldn't miss this book. I was glad to read about Kasha living a normal life and learn more about how and why she ended up in the dark basement. I just wish Mage could tell her first and prepare her for what was to come.

Predictable

Would be better as the first book in the series or combined with Taken! It's not stand alone and reading after Taken made it predictable and unnecessary.

Boring and adolescent

It was very tedious and uneventful and I was yawning from boredom. Half if the book was about granny and totally lame, the other half was about h but mostly through descriptive characterization.
