New Release: Fairy, Texas by Margo Bond Collins

Fairy, Texas has been released for Kindle! The paperback should be available next week.

FairyTexasCover

Fairy, Texas. A small town like any other.

Laney Harris didn’t want to live there. When her mother remarried and moved them to a town where a date meant hanging out at the Sonic, Laney figured that “boring” would have a whole new meaning. A new stepsister who despised her and a high school where she was the only topic of gossip were bad enough. But when she met the school counselor (and his terminal bad breath), she grew suspicious. Especially since he had wings that only she could see. And then there were Josh and Mason, two gorgeous glimmering-eyed classmates whose interest in her might not be for the reasons she hoped. Not to mention that dead guy she nearly tripped over in gym class.

She was right. Boring took on an entirely new dimension in Fairy, Texas.

Excerpt

Fairy High could have fit into one wing of my old school. The three-story, red brick building looked like it had been around for at least a century—it actually had carvings over two of the doorways that read “Men’s Entrance” and “Women’s Entrance.” I was glad to see that none of the kids paid any attention to those instructions.

“Counselor’s office,” I muttered to myself. At least I wasn’t starting in the middle of a term—though given the fact that there were fewer than 500 students in the entire high school, I didn’t think I was going to be able to go unnoticed, even in the general bustle of the first day back from summer vacation.

I walked through the door marked “Men’s Entrance,” just be contrary, and faced a long hallway lined with heavy wooden doors. The spaces in between the doors were filled with lockers and marble staircases with ornate hand-rails flanked each end of the long hallway. Students poured in behind me, calling out greetings to each other and jostling me off to the side while I tried to get my bearings. None of the doors obviously led to a main office; I was going to have to walk the entire length of the hallway. And people were already starting to stare and whisper.

God. I hated being the new kid.

I took a deep breath and stepped forward. I made it halfway down the hall without seeing anything informative—all the doors had numbers over them and many of them had name plaques, but neither of those things did me any good since I didn’t know the name or office number for the counselor. I was almost getting desperate enough to ask Kayla, but of course she was nowhere to be seen.

I turned back from scanning the halls for her and caught sight of the first adult I’d seen—and almost screamed. As it was, I gasped loudly enough for a guy walking past me to do a double take. The man standing in the open doorway was tall, over six feet, and way skinny—so emaciated that it looked like you ought to be able to see his ribs through his shirt, if his shirt didn’t hang so loosely on him. He had white hair that stuck out in tufts, thin lips, a sharp nose, and pale blue eyes that narrowed as he watched the kids walk past—and all the kids gave him a wide berth without even seeming to notice that they did so. He stood in an empty circle while students streamed around him in the crowded hallway.

But none of that was what made me almost scream.

For a moment, just as I’d turned toward him, I could have sworn that I’d seen the shadow of two huge, black, leathery wings stretched out behind him.

Claimed by a Demon King (Eternal Mates Romance Series Book 2)

Felicity Heaton

The moment the demon King Thorne of the Third Realm set eyes on the mortal huntress Sable, he knew she was his fated one. The fiery, dangerous female awakened hungers he had never experienced before, a dark craving and passion that has consumed him in their time apart. As the lunar cycle wanes, she enters his world again and nothing will stand in the way of him claiming his forever with her—not the relentless assault from the Fifth Realm or the dark elf male determined to seduce her out of his grasp.

Intent on achieving the coveted position of commander at Archangel, Sable leads her small team into the dark underworld and the Third Realm, to a war where her allies are the very creatures she normally hunts—vampires, werewolves, and demons. Her eagerness to lead the deadly mission has everything to do with winning her promotion, and nothing to do with the kingdom’s brash, lethally seductive demon king—a king who stirred fierce desire and wildfire heat in her with just a look and an innocent touch when they first met, and has been in her wicked dreams ever since.

As the gathering storm between rivals unleashes irresistible passion that flares white-hot and the heat of the battle brings life-shattering realisations, can Sable place her duty before her heart? Or will she surrender to her deepest desires and be claimed by a demon king?

Spotlight: Into the Darkness by K.F. Breene

Title: Into the Darkness

Author: K.F. Breene

Genre: New Adult Fantasy/Paranormal Romance

Publication: January 23, 2014

I’d always been different. I saw objects in the night where others saw emptiness. Large, human shaped shadows, fierce yet beautiful, melting into the darkness. I collected secrets like other women collected bells; afraid to fully trust lest my oddities be exposed.

Until I saw him. He’d been gliding down the street, unshakable confidence in every step. It wasn’t just that he was breathtakingly handsome with perfect features. Something about him drew me. Sucked my focus to him and then tugged at my body. As his eyes met mine, I was entrapped.

No one had noticed him. He’d been right there, just beyond the light, but only I had perceived.

I had to know if he was real. Or maybe I really was crazy. And even when my secret box was blasted wide open, dangers hurled at me like throwing knives, I couldn’t stop until I unraveled his true identity.

I just had to know.

“She was fated to live.”

“Then why must you save her?”

“Often Fate is struck down by dumb luck.”

“We

established that, yes. What I want to know is, if I am human, what does that

make you? And why do I notice you when others usually don’t?”

      Kolma       I

could barely think past the pounding ache of my body, begging to touch him. I

needed to get a grip! He was revealing some very interesting factoids I needed

to jot down in my mental notebook.

      “Umm,”

charged with questions, determination, anger, and demands, I thrust forward,

“Listen, what did you mean about withstanding the…pher-thing? Or breaking the

other thing? How can you trap someone’s head with pleasure? Because I’m pretty

sure—not positive, but pretty sure—that Jared is straight. And also, I really

think we should circle back to what the hell you are, and why nobody knows that

you exist? Because this whole people scattering thing is not normal, and I

think an explanation is probably in order.”

      A small

smile curved his lips. “I exude pleasure, you run. I exude fear, you come

calling. You want me, I can smell it. I can feel it, almost like a palpable

thing. Give in to it. Yield to me.”

      Why had I

come here, again?

A wine country native, K.F. Breene moved to San Francisco for college just shy of a decade ago to pursue a lifelong interest in film. As she settled into the vibrant city, it quickly became apparent that, while she thought making and editing films was great fun, she lacked cinematic genius. For that reason, her career path quickly changed direction. Her next goal was a strange childhood interest, conjured at the dining room table while filling out a form. For some reason, her young self wanted to be an accountant. Thinking on it now, she often wonders how she had any friends. Regardless, it was the direction she finally took.

While she could wrangle numbers with the best of ‘em, and even though she wore the crown as the most outspoken, belligerent accountant in the world, her mind got as stuffy as her daily routine. It was here that she dusted off her creative hat and began writing. Now she makes movies in her head, not worried about lighting, shutter speed or editing equipment. Turns out, a computer is much easier to manage than a crowd of actors. She should know, she was an actor at one time.

Review

Dawna Raver’s second Colours Weilders novel is hot! In the first novel, Quinn is hidden away in California, unaware that she is not a normal girl, but a fairy princess—and Arik finds himself unable to stay away from her. In this second installment of the series, Quinn believes that Arik has betrayed her and their attempts to find their way back to one another—and around the plans of the evil Morgana le Fay—make for a fascinating read.

I particularly enjoyed Raver’s use of traditional fairy tales and Arthurian legend, woven into a modern tale of love, betrayal, and connection. The book opens with Quinn reeling from what she believes is Arik’s betrayal and spins the reader from one emotional moment to the next. The writing is strong and the storytelling is even stronger. Severed Colours does a great job of creating a fantastic world full of believable characters. This is a strong second entry in the series.

About me, hmm? What to say? I was born in California, lived in England for a time, then settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Today much of my time is spent in the Land of Make Believe, visiting my characters, encouraging them to tell me their stories. Now they won’t shut the frak up! If you write, you know what I mean. If you don’t, you probably think I’m insane. Guess what? You’re right!

At ten, I moved to England for a year and half, living with my brother and sister-in-law who were stationed at Upper Heyford Air Force Base. I went to an English school in Chipping Norton. Being the only American in an all British school was quite the experience. It was here I was introduced to the world of fantasy—Lord of the Rings to be exact—as well as Celtic mythology. This experience forever influenced my love of reading—from fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and contemporary romance. And in case you’re wondering, I adore Harry Potter. Seriously, who doesn’t? If you don’t, uh, keep it to yourself.

I’d like to tell you writing has been my lifelong pursuit, that I’ve written all my life. But honestly, almost four years ago, I stumbled upon it by accident. Now, I can’t imagine my life without it. I’ve always had an active imagination but it never translated to the page. During an extended stay at home due to medical issues, and bored out of my skull, I sat down at my computer, and started writing memories from days gone by. Those memories turned into a story, and I started to wonder if I had it in me to write an entire novel. Encouraged by a writer friend I opened my mind and let characters have free rein. Before I knew it, months had passed and I was well into my first novel. Long story short, three and a half years later—and three rewrites—my first novel, Colour Wielders was complete and accepted by Curiosity Quills Press. The first book in the Heirs of the Magykal Realm will be published late in 2012 or early 2013.

Besides writing my other passions are my husband, my dogs, and Football. My team is the Miami Dolphins—sadly, I don’t have high hopes for the 2012-2013 season. Don’t be surprised when at least one of my blog posts, on Raver’s Rants and Raves, includes an outpouring of grief over the Fin’s performance, but I will try to keep my public dissatisfaction to a minimum. At least I have the Manning brothers. Though Peyton in Denver Bronco colors is just, well, disturbing.

I hope you enjoy your visits here, and in particular, enjoy my Comic Reviews. I look forward to connecting with new people and making friends. Can’t wait for your comments.

Cheers!

Guest Post: Kristal McKerrington, co-author of Waking Up His Wife

Hello, all Margo’s wonderful readers,

So when Margo allowed me to be on this blog to discuss writing with my co-author Joe E Legends, I wasn’t sure what I was going to write. After all, our story is a rare wrestling romance.

Waking Up His Wife is an experience I’ll not forget. I came upon the idea when I ventured to Wales with a very close friend. I wasn’t sure if the company who had me there were going to hire me or if it would be another wasted trip. But for me, being on the road isn’t a wasted trip; it’s just great fun. I love every second of it.

I’m one of the few people who loves to fly in planes, to be in a car and to hang out with friends on long road trips. So when I took 2 trains from Glasgow, I couldn’t be more happy. That’s when I started this collaboration.

Talking to a slightly older man than I expected, he planted the seed in my mind for many more books. It wasn’t until I started to work with Joe, that my books came to life and really started to shine.

Without Joe this wouldn’t be possible. Please check out Waking Up His Wife!

Waking Up His Wife

Strong, muscled, chiselled, good looks and a gentleman to boot. This is what Anna’s friends thought she married; however, this wasn’t what she had caught. They thought she caught herself a fighter. Instead, she caught herself trouble on two legs.

Excerpt:

Her mind got stuck on something far scarier. She registered her client standing there in front of her. Her mind became distracted by the sight of him there to take in the pain lashing at the back of her eyes. More pain whipped itself up some frosting, in the tender spot in her forehead. Her eyes feel like there were about to pop out of her sockets.

When the pain eased a bit more she focused on the man standing in front of her. She hoped it wasn’t her client, but one of the other agents who might have put her to bed, after getting herself wrecked at the party. Instead when her fuzzy eyes focused she saw her worst nightmare. Her client standing right in front of her, butt- naked and dripping wet.

Water ran over his tightly toned muscles, his blond short hair laying flat against his head. His tattoos glistened in the sun light. His playful blue eyes stared at her from underneath his thin, blonde eyelashes. He held a delighted look within them to see her still sitting in his bed, in his room.

Unable to control herself, Anna’s gaze scanned lower and lower until her eyes caught hold of something else. Something far scarier than her naked client. Something she’d only heard rumors about. The one thing every woman who watched him wrestle, wanted to know about.

If only what had caught her attention wasn’t his long, trusted, pleasuring tool. She saw naked wrestlers every single day. She’d nearly seen every wrestler in the business naked, through her work in the back. Some of them even staging ‘oops’ moments as they tried to temp her to get involved with one of them.

A ring wrapped itself, snug around her left ring finger. Her wedding ring finger, the only part of her body which held a vein which ran straight up into her heart. She sat there with her eyes wide open and her mouth hanging low. Panic exploded through her, denial follow it fast as her last curtain of safety, of comfort fell away from her.

“Oh God, no, what happened last night?” Anna’s voice wanted to deny anything, everything happening in this room. The grips of the hangover battled with the strong feeling of shock, which managed to take over her. She panicked and felt uncertain whether or not she wanted to know the managed to take over her. She panicked and felt uncertain whether or not she wanted to know the truth of what happened last night.

She searched through her mind frantically for something, anything, which might help make this all make sense. Memories weren’t making much sense but one memory stood out clearer than the rest.

Aidan Turner has had a rough life, a life that has only become harsher as he’s gotten older. The scars across his face serve as a constant reminder of the haunting nightmares from his past life. Seeing himself as nothing but a monster, Aidan believes no one will ever be able to look past his flaws.

His reasoning is about to change when his very own beauty comes barreling in, sparking emotions he’d thought he’d never feel. Love sizzles between them, but his friendship with another girl complicates everything, especially after the nature of their friendship becomes confused. Will friendship overshadow his true feelings and ruin both couples’ chances at happiness?
