BROKEN FLYGHT Is Now Available! Get The Second Book In This Sci-fi Reverse Harem Romance Series Today!

Rolling along with the Flyght Series, BROKEN FLYGHT, Book 2, is available today! This was such a fun book to write. It really gave me the chance dive deep into this universe I created and take it out for a spin. Plus, I got to write some fantastic romance, which is always my favorite part. All in all, it’s an enjoyable romp. I think you’ll love it.

Don’t forget to pre-order HIGH FLYGHT, Book 3, of the Flyght Series. It will be out in November. Book 4 will be out in January 2020, and I plan to have Book 5 out in March 2020.

Fallen heiress, ship’s captain, entrepreneur — Vivian will do whatever it takes to restore her family’s empire, even if it means sacrificing her own happiness…

With her ship secure and her old boyfriend back in good graces, Vivian Kawabata only needs one thing to move forward: money. Money, though, is hard to come by when you’re an infamous disgraced heiress. Vivian’s only move is to enlist the help of her matchmaker, Marcelo, and find another wealthy man to add to her relationship network. He not only has to be a master in the bedroom, but he must be a pro with ships, too. Her ship needs a mechanic before they start taking on real clients for Flyght, the lucrative ship-sharing startup.

On their way to Rio to follow the trail of Vivian’s deceitful brother, Marcelo presents Vivian with two eligible bachelors, Sean and Jinzo. The vetting process is rocky from the start; Sean is stand-offish and distant, and Jinzo doesn’t make a good first impression. Despite this setback, Vivian is determined to make something work because if she’s doesn’t, she’s dead in the water.

After their first romantic escape, Vivian is knocked backwards by her feelings for Jinzo (first impressions aren’t everything). But he’s not as eligible as he first seemed to be, and the realization throws her whole world into chaos and a new possible scandal. Every decision Vivian makes puts not only her own future on the line, but that of her crew and her family. Will she play it safe, or risk everything – including her heart?

BROKEN FLYGHT is the second book in the Flyght Series of sci-fi reverse harem romance. If you like action-packed space operas and a universe full of twists, then you’ll love S. J. Pajonas’s interstellar adventure.

Note: This is a slow-burn romance series!

Teaser Tuesday – A Good Girl Gone Bad

And our last Teaser Tuesday for BROKEN FLYGHT!

As we saw in FIRST FLYGHT, Vivian is doing some shady stuff to make money and get her family farm back. She’s not above trying new things, as long as she’s smart about what she does. Her seeds startup is just this side of legal, so she’s willing to run the risk.

But Vivian has a bit of a temper! She’s desperate to find her brother and make him pay for what he did to their family. When she stumbles across a clue about where he might be, she throws herself into a chase throughout Oitavo, one of Rio’s floating cities. Unfortunately, she’s a little risky with her hoverbike flying, and her erratic flying gets her into quite a bit of trouble.

That’s what good stories are all about, right? I love seeing her determined to take chances and try harder. Never a dull moment when she’s around!

At the intake window, Jinzo pulls his datapad from his pocket, takes off his socks and shoes, and dumps them all on the counter while I hand over my wristlet. And then comes the mug shot. I catch sight of myself in a mirror, and I look like a drowned rat, hair plastered to my head, mascara running, shirt and skirt destroyed. Standing for the mug shot, I’m careful not to scowl. I keep a neutral face with a hint of a smirk in my eyes.

I should be ashamed of myself — really — but I can’t help but feel powerful. I chased that girl down, and I almost caught her. If the bike hadn’t shut itself down and called the cops, I could’ve caught her. I went to that casino to find something of my brother, and I did. And here I am being arrested for driving recklessly and violating city limits laws. Possibly for trying to steal the rental bike, too.

Yeah, I broke the law. Little Ms. Boring and Predictable me. My parents are going to shit a brick, but I think Skylar will be impressed.

Well, at least Skylar will think it’s awesome! Lol.

October 2019 Goals

I’m sure no one is surprised that September flew right on by. What a crazy busy month!

What Happened With September’s Goals?

Publish FIRST FLYGHT. DONE. And the launch went really well! I’m pleased with the outcome. I sold plenty of copies and got some great reviews as well.

Edit Flyght Books 3 and 4. This is 90% complete. Yes, I got Book 3 totally done. Book 4 is mostly done. I’ve done my first round of copy edits on it, and now all I have left to do is my readers’ notes edits, Grammarly pass, and my listen pass. That should take me all of 3 days tops.

Prep Book 2, BROKEN FLYGHT, for publishing. This is ready to go. I uploaded the final file around the 15th of September. It publishes this Friday!

Make teaser images for BROKEN FLYGHT. DONE. And you’ve seen most of them this month!

Keep up with SFR Station. As usual now.

Keep up outpatient physical therapy. As one does. I’m almost done with it!

Start walking more regularly. I am walking more when I can and I got in some walks this month. Now that we have the dog, I need to spend more time at home, but my husband and I are tag-teaming taking care of her so that we can each exercise. She’s not old enough to leave the property or walk on a leash yet. Soon!

Reading and knitting. I read this month. I did not pick up the needles once. Sigh.

Business Goals For October

Publish BROKEN FLYGHT. Everything is ready to go for this! I just need to set it up in my own Payhip store and update the website on release day.

Prep Book 3, HIGH FLYGHT, for publishing. I need to finish up the ebook and upload it to everywhere before mid-month. It’s almost done. Just need to incorporate a few proofreading changes.

Send HIGH FLYGHT to my ARC team. As soon as those proofreading changes are into the manuscript (either today or tomorrow) I will send this out to my ARC team.

Make teaser images for HIGH FLYGHT. My goal is to have 3 teaser images per book from here on out. You’ll see teasers for this starting next Tuesday!

Start writing Flyght Book 5. I have resurrected Dragon and my digital recorder. I hope to walk around my property with Lulu and dictate most of this next book. We’ll see how it goes. I plan to write Books 5 and 6 before the end of the year, then edit them in January. Then write Miso Cozy Book 6 in February.

Keep up with SFR Station. As usual now.

Personal Goals For October

Attend my last few outpatient physical therapy sessions. I only have two sessions left!

Walk. It’s my goal to walk 3-4 times every week.

Reading and knitting. As usual. I’d really like to knit more this month.

Have a great October everyone!

Sunday Update – September 29, 2019

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

It won’t surprise anyone that my update this week will be mostly Lulu, Ninja Assassin. That’s her new name, by the way. She even has an Instagram you can follow! She’s cute but deadly.

Honestly, all the days of this past week have blended together as we forge ahead with little sleep or any of our sanity left. Lulu is a great dog in pretty much every way, but she’s still very much a puppy and will be for some time. She is cutting her puppy teeth and biting us a lot. Understandable, though, and she’s not being aggressive. We’ve been doing our best to redirect, to praise good attention like kissing or snuggling, and saying NO to biting. She’s already starting to get the hang of it.

She’s also sleeping better now. She sleeps in our room in the pack & play each night. Usually getting good sleep from 10pm to 2am, then 2am to 4am, then up for the day around 6am. That’s not too bad. We hope to transition her out of our room as she gets used to her crate.

This week I had my last week of twice-weekly physical therapy! Now, I have two weeks of once-weekly physical therapy and then I’m done. I’ve been getting in more walks, which is great, and as soon as Lulu is walking on the leash, I’ll have a walking buddy too!

I’m almost done with my Flyght Book 4 edits! I have run out of time and energy most days because of the interrupted sleep so I’m a little behind. I just have to do my Grammarly and listening pass and wait for any other feedback from my readers.

A new month starts on Tuesday, but since that’s my Teaser day for BROKEN FLYGHT, I will do my monthly update tomorrow.

What else happened this week?

Here, you can see Lulu settling into our house and our routines.

The park is looking green still but I expect that to change soon.

We bathed Lulu at mid-week so she didn’t smell of the shelter anymore.

She is still very much a puppy! So when she’s done zooming around the house and attacking everything in sight, she’s chill and sleepy. Sometimes I have to put her in her crate to force her to slow down. She’s a constant pacer. She will just trot around the house over and over until she’s exhausted.

I took the kids to the pottery studio to find the last of their creations from summer art camp.

And I went to pottery too and made some nice looking bowls I’m happy with. We’ll see how they look after I trim them!

Have a great week everyone!

Book Chat #49 – Tracy Krimmer, Carysa Locke, Brigid Kemmerer, and Tim Peake

I haven’t had a Book Chat since July! And it’s not because I haven’t read anything. I did get quite a few books read at the end of pool season. I’ve been absent from Book Chats because I’ve just been so busy. So much writing and editing! Let’s talk about what I’ve been reading for fun on the side.

MISTLETOE MISHAP by Tracy Krimmer

MISTLETOE MISHAP is the newest holiday novel from Tracy Krimmer! I read it in pre-release and loved it. When Alexis is left at the altar, she makes a horrible scene and loses her job. What better way to recuperate than to spend some time at Mistletoe Manner in Colorado. I loved how she met Grayson, the romantic interest in this book, and I eagerly followed along as she made both great and poor decisions that led to a truly satisfying ending. Another page-turner from Krimmer!

A CURSE SO DARK AND LONELY by Brigid Kemmerer

I read A CURSE SO DARK AND LONELY while on vacation at the end of August, and I could not put it down. Once I bought into Emberfall and Harper, the rest was like candy I was addicted to. I loved Harper’s tenacity, and Rhen’s dedication. Grey had me in the palm of his hand. I could really feel how much Kemmerer loved writing this book. There was a lot of heart and soul put into it. Considering how hard it is for me to suspend my disbelief with fantasy, I’d say this was a winner.

SCAVENGER PRINCESS by Carysa Locke

This book kinda fell into my lap. I love Carysa Locke, and we’re pretty good friends now, reading each other’s books before publication. I didn’t even know she was writing this one! And I was so happy to be back in her universe with this swag story. SCAVENGER PRINCESS follows a Talented woman as she tries to make a living and enough credits to buy out her slavery contract and escape from her sucktastic life. I really enjoyed her interactions with the three men on the broken-down spaceship, and the ending had me on the edge of my seat! This is a standalone story in her universe, if you want to check out some awesome Telepathic Space Pirates!

ASK AN ASTRONAUT: MY GUIDE TO LIFE IN SPACE by Tim Peake

I cannot ever learn enough about space or space travel! Bring it on! In ASK AN ASTRONAUT: MY GUIDE TO LIFE IN SPACE, Tim Peake answered questions from Twitter and other social media about what’s involved with flying in the space program NOW. I loved learning about all the Russian superstitious rituals, the mistakes that almost caused life-threatening problems, and all the minutiae of living and working aboard the ISS. If you love space, you should definitely check this out.

What have you been reading lately?

Teaser Tuesday – Alien Life And Sea Creatures Galore

It’s Teaser Tuesday for BROKEN FLYGHT!

For the first time ever in my sci-fi, I’ve written aliens. But not aliens like you think. I’ve given a planet in the Brazilianos System its own alien-ish ecosystem with plants and animals that have evolved on their own, not from Earth. Being Earthlings, though, the settlers have given Earth-analogous names to most of the animals they’ve discovered here.

So there are squid in the seas and greensnakes in the trees and jellies on the seashore. But none of these things are like what they were on Earth. Almost everything on Rio is dangerous. So dangerous that they float the cities above the jungles and the oceans, otherwise, humans will end up as tasty, tasty snacks.

There will be more about Rio animals in further books and a peek at how they came to be! But for now, Vivian has to avoid any more entanglements with them. This one was almost a disaster!

I turn in my seat so I can look at him. His helmet is in his lap, and the rain runs down his head and meanders in tiny rivers along his face.

“I keep promises, and I don’t want to let you get away.” His fingers brush my face. “You have a bit of a temper —”

I laugh at this, and it lightens my mood, even as I see the flashing lights approaching from shore.

“— But I think we’re made for each other.”

“Well,” I begin, leaning into his fingers.

Then I feel it, and I freeze. A creeping sensation, sliding, slipping up my leg. A tug throws me off balance, and I squeak and grab for Jinzo. I tear my eyes from Jinzo’s, and the tentacle wrapped around my leg is unmistakable.

“Get it off! Get it off!” Panic squeezes my chest as I slide away from the bike. Everything is wet and slippery, but I wrap my hands around the bike’s footrest and squeeze with all my might. The only problem? I’ve been riding the bike for almost an hour now, and my hands are weak with fatigue.

My whole body is weak with fatigue, and this thing is stronger than me.

“Vivian!” Jinzo is on his stomach now, trying to keep me above the water. His grasp on the tight shirt I stupidly decided to wear is firm, but the seams are ripping.

“I can’t hold on.”

Another tentacle weaves up my other leg. This squid knows when it has a prize in its grips.

How will Vivian get out of this one? You’ll have to read to find out!

Sunday Update – September 22, 2019

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

I’m going to hit you with the big news first! WE GOT A DOG! Well, she’s a puppy. But yeah, we got a dog! We’ve been talking about getting a dog for months now, and my husband decided recently that now was the time. He said, “Talk to your friend, Amy, about getting a dog. Either a rescue or puppy from a reputable breeder.” So I did. Amy works with a local animal shelter so I asked her to keep her ears open for something that would fit our family. She also gave us the names of some pug breeders too.

Then, out of the blue, she let us know yesterday that there was a sweet small breed dog at the local shelter, a puppy, who would need to be fostered until she was spayed. We took one look at her and fell in love.

So, she’s here! And her name is Lulu, and we love her already. We’ll see how we all feel once the new puppy love wears off. Lol. Aw, puppies. If we can just potty train her, then I’ll feel like we’ve made progress.

As for the rest of the week, it was kind of a blur. It’s been super busy around here since school started!

I think on Monday I didn’t do much except go for a walk and work. And watch a giant tree get taken down in our backyard! That was pretty epic. I love watching arborists work.

Tuesday was PT day and working day. Nothing exciting.

Wednesday was my super busy day. I had tea at my cousin’s house with my mom, two aunts, and my cousin. We enjoyed gabbing and some tasty treats. Then I was at home for an hour or two before I took the kids to tennis. We got dinner on the way home, and then in the evening, I went to Back to School Night for my youngest.

Thursday, I had PT in the morning first thing at 9am, then I went to my first pottery class of the semester! It was great to get back on the wheel again! I came home and my mom was here! Yay! We hung out and talked for most of the afternoon. In the evening, we all went out to dinner as a family to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary.

Friday was also a busy day. In the evening, my husband and I took an early train into the city and had an amazing dinner at Le Bernardin (Eric Ripert’s restaurant) to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The only problem was that we got screwed on the way home by the trains. Our first train was canceled. Then we got on the next one and missed a connection because of signal problems. Our dinner ended at 8:00pm and we were still trying to get home at 11:00pm. Totally ridiculous. We eventually made it home with a combination of trains and Ubers. Unfortunately, the whole evening was really hard on my legs and feet. My feet and ankles were so swollen and still swollen the next day!

Saturday, my mom left and not but an hour later we got the call about the dog fostering. So the whole day was occupied by talking about the dog and what we would do and OMG WE’RE GOING TO GET A DOG! Still, I managed to get work done.

Today, it has been all dog, all the time. Which is great. It’s quite a change. But I’m sure it’ll be normal in no time. I need to change my author bio everywhere! Lol.

In writing/working news, I finished a second draft pass on Flyght Book 4 and got it off to my first readers. I also sent off all the details to my blurb writer for that book. I start copyedits on it tomorrow. I hope to finish with those by the end of the month.

What else happened this week?

First of all, puppy photos! This is Lulu. We love her already even though she only pees in the house. Lol. She’s young. She’ll figure it out.

This is the first photo I ever received of her, in her kennel at the shelter. How could I resist?

When I went on my walk on Monday, I got halfway around the park when it started to rain. Of course.

This is the ash tree we had taken down. It was about 30ft high and completely dead. What a bummer. But better to take it down now than allow it to fall on the house.

It was pretty darned big!

Here are my first pottery creations for this year!

My oldest daughter’s new bike! Isn’t it pretty? I love it.

And finally, one of the many courses we had at Le Bernardin on Friday night. Everything we ate was extraordinary, and we enjoyed it all! Just not the ride home. :)

Have a great week everyone!

Teaser Tuesday – The Jewel Of The Duo Systems

It’s Teaser Tuesday for BROKEN FLYGHT! I have 3 teasers to share for this book so let’s strap in and get started!

It was always my intention to have some really interesting planets in the Duo Systems. I didn’t want to fall into the old Star Wars standard of Forest Planet, Ice Planet, Water Planet, etc. I would imagine that if Earth is any indication, there are a lot of diverse planets in the universe. I should try to emulate the only planet I know for my two connected star systems.

So when I came up with Rio, the only planet with its own alien ecosystem, I wanted to make it spectacular. What better way than to give it some rings? This is probably impractical, I know. Rings are basically a lot of rocks, asteroids, and space junk that could cause problems with space flight or just survival on a planet. But let’s pretend the Rio residents and military have figured out how to live with it, okay? Otherwise, they were too pretty to pass up.

More on Rio’s plant and animal life next week!

Slipping my legs out from under the high-end silky sheets, I grab a robe from one of the side chairs, pull it on, and head out to the balcony.

The nights on Rio are absolutely stunning. There’s a reason why everyone says it’s the Jewel of the Duo Systems. Rio’s rings are its main attraction, and they sweep up into the sky overhead, mixing amongst the twinkling stars. Every time I see it, it takes my breath away. Far out on the horizon, a bank of clouds hunkers in wait. I consider us fortunate to be here on a day when we can even see the rings and stars because Rio is also well-known for its storms. Tomorrow, it will rain, and most likely, for a few days in a row. It is a world of rainforests after all.

I take a deep breath and lean on the balcony railing, keeping my eyes trained on the seas. A school of glowfish is lazily making its way parallel to shore under the water, and farther out, beyond the warning buoys, a group of dark whales surface and dive. I’m sure the sentient squid are somewhere doing their thing, but I see none this time. All in all, a pretty typical evening on Rio.

Just a boring night on Rio! ;)

Sunday Update – September 15, 2019

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

It’s Sunday again! The weeks just fly by now that the kids are back in school.

On Monday, I had the day to myself. I went for a walk in the morning and then edited Flyght 3 the rest of the day.

Tuesday was super busy. I had physical therapy in the morning. Then my oldest daughter had an honor roll assembly in the afternoon we had to attend. It was lovely to see all the kids who had done well last year! We picked up CSA and then I worked all afternoon.

On Wednesday, I took the day off from walking and my husband and I got errands done. We went to the bank to have some documents notarized, then to Costco to stock up on everything we hadn’t bought in months. In the evening, I took the kids to tennis.

On Thursday, I had PT in the morning then I went to see my doctor about my broken leg. Good news! Everything is healing up and I’m now tapering off PT! After I went to see him, I went to Trader Joe’s, as it’s right next to his office. My daughter then had tutoring in the afternoon.

Friday was a pretty good day. I went for a walk in the park in the morning and then had coffee with my friend Amy. I got editing done the rest of the day.

Saturday was a little different. My husband went into the city all day to a conference, so I had the kids on my own. I got one of them to do crafting stuff while I worked. Then we ran errands together. My husband was home by 4pm and we all had dinner together.

Today, my youngest had TWO birthday parties to attend! She is so popular! ;) Lol. Honestly, that hardly ever happens. Anyway, while she was partying all day, I worked and my husband got other stuff done. We also had someone come by to talk to us about redoing all of our back landscaping. We need to fix the place where I fell and broke my leg. Hopefully it won’t be too disruptive.

Editing of Flyght 3 is almost done! I should be able to hand it off to proofreaders tomorrow! Then I take a few days to read through Flyght 4, get the outline off to my blurb writer, and start editing that. Phew! Lots to do! I also have to make teasers for BROKEN FLYGHT tomorrow. I am swamped with work.

What else happened this week?

They’ve been taking down some big trees in the park lately. Probably in preparation for hurricane season? Not sure.

This one swan boat was all on its own out in the lake.

Lots of black-eyed susans.

This deer loves our yard. She’s always lying in that space right next to our deck. I startle her every time I go outside.

I made Japanese Curry [recipe link] this week with some lovely purple daikon from our CSA.

Went out for coffee and a sweet treat with my friend, Amy, on Friday.

I’m back to working at the tennis club on Wednesdays.

The broken leg is really healing! I’m seeing good results from my hard work at PT.

And I started baking bread again. Funny thing is that I started baking bread the first time last year TODAY. It was in my Facebook memories. Lol. But I stopped when I broke my leg. Today, I started back up, and I can’t wait to eat this loaf with dinner!

Have a great week everyone!

BROKEN FLYGHT Is Available For Pre-Order!

Hello everyone! It’s been a busy week around here doing lots of editing, so blog content has been light. No worries. There’s more to come in the following weeks!

If you’ve read FIRST FLYGHT, you probably already know that BROKEN FLYGHT, Book 2 of the Flyght Series, is up for pre-order. In fact, Book 3, HIGH FLYGHT, is also up for pre-order but let’s focus on BROKEN FLYGHT today!

Where FIRST FLYGHT is the introduction to the series, BROKEN FLYGHT introduces one of the main suitors of the series, someone who will be important for Vivian. We also get a chance to see more of the Californikos System by spending time on Rio, the ringed planet with its own unique ecosystem. This is such a fun book with lots of twists and turns, a sea monster, and a chase!

This was a tough book to write! It has a lot more romance than the first book and it introduces a few more characters that will be important for the length of the series as well. Each book in this series builds on the book before it, so it has to be read in order. This also means that I, as the author, have to remember everything I wrote in the book before. HARD TO DO! I have to re-read my books all the time. Lol. But these first two books of the Flyght Series are the most important ones because they set the stage for the whole saga. I’m so excited for them both to be out there!

I also really love the cover for this book. All the covers are really great, but for some reason, I love the expression of my heroine on the cover. Thanks, Najla!
