Last Day of NaPoWriMo
Hello Poeetteers,
I haven't been officially participating in NaPoWriMo but I'm loving today's prompt:
I’d like you to try an odd little exercise that I have had good results with. Today, I challenge you to write a poem backwards. Start with the last line and work your way up the page to the beginning. Another way to go about this might be to take a poem you’ve already written, and flip the order of the lines and from there, edit it so the poem now works with its new order. This will probably feel a bit strange (and really, it is a bit strange), but it just may help you see the formal “opening” and “closing” strategies of your poems in a new way!
Here is a poem I wrote the other day:
It makes me crazy
to know
I think of you
yet it also keeps me calm
I won't deny my thoughts of you
but I also won't deny my beliefs
the faith I follow.
Here it is flipped:
The faith I follow
I won't deny my beliefs
but I also won't deny my thoughts of you
it keeps me calm
to think of you
but know
it also makes me crazy.
Love, Fida

Poem - Under the Lights
Hello Poetteers,
Under the lights
under the starry night
I set foot on the ground
to walk place to place
but never look up
to see a beauty
a beauty that is under appreciated.

Poem - Things
Hello Poetteers,
Things are not as they appear
You see a person that is seemingly happy
but they may be sad inside
so still smile at a smiling person
You see a person seemingly sad
and they may be trying to fool you
but that doesn't mean you shouldn't smile
whether it is for you or the other person
whomever is sad.

Poem - Secrets
Hello Poetteers,
You keep secrets from me
that won't stop me
from living a happy moment
I do have my secrets
but I won't give hints of it.

Poem - Resist
Hello Poetteers,
I resist the urge to follow every desire
I do resist the forces trying to take away my freedom
I have the chance to live
not just survive or barely survive
I can resist the moments you are trying to take away
I'm not going to turn my head away
This is not going to be a city street
with just a memory
it will have its living moments.

Poem - Notice
Hello Poetteers,
I think it's time we stop
and watch the children
I think it's time we stop
acting like children
Notice the sounds
of their happiness
we should have that heart in us
Notice the sound
of their immaturity
try and stay in a level that is appreciated
one where you will be respected
For what it is worth
just look around and see
what is going down.

Monday Blessings - Knowledge
Hello Poetteers,
To know leaders and speakers
to be a leader myself
while continuously learning
knowledge is important
to be the best you can be
to teach and lead.

Poem - Falafel
Hello Poetteers,
You talk about falafel
like your own people made it
I understand you love them
I hope you continue to love them
but know it didn't originate from your own
it originated from another group of people
whose streets are filled with vendors
and fresh smells and spice
whose walls hold so much history
whose land tries to wave its own flag.

Poem - First Woman
Hello Poetteers,
The first woman on this earth
the mother to all of us
A woman from the rib of a man
to be comforted by him
and protected from him
always close to his heart
to protect him too.

NaPoWriMo Day 5
Hello Poetteers,
From a prompt that Dua shared:
Find an Emily Dickinson poem – preferably one you’ve never previously read – and take out all the dashes and line breaks. Make it just one big block of prose. Now, rebreak the lines. Add words where you want. Take out some words. Make your own poem out of it!
I came up with this poem:
There is no ship
like a book
to take us away
from the lands we know
there is no path
like the ones of poetry
to make us love
This is a path anyone can take
without oppression or permission
this is an importance
that carries and bears a human soul.
