AfterLUNCH | Southern Road Trip

AfterLUNCH's 50th episode coincided with my road trip south to see a bunch of friends I haven't seen in a long time (and one I'd never met face-to-face before). Some of them grew up in the South, some transplanted there, and some transplanted away from there, so I talk to them about Southern living and what movies, TV shows, and books best represent it.

Pax and I discuss Arthur Penn's Billy the Kid tale, The Left Handed Gun, starring Paul Newman as Billy with appearances by The Dukes of Hazzard's James Best and Denver Pyle.
I also continue my Western History movie project with The Mountain Men (1980) and Two for Texas (1998). And Pax continues reading Thierry Gloris and Jacques Lamontagne's Wild West graphic novels with a volume about Wild Bill. AfterLUNCH | Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)

For the second episode of AfterLUNCH, we reran a discussion of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl from an old podcast that my son David and I used to have. In addition to me and David, the panel featured Lizzie Twatchman, Mike Westfall, and Ron Marz. Now, we finally reconvene (with 100% more Rob Graham) to take a critical, but fond look at the second Pirates movie, Dead Man's Chest.
