Anti-Hipster Ordinance

I'm thinking about starting an Anti-Hipster Ordinance that basically states, if the young man is not strong enough to lift an ax-handle over his head, he can't dress like a lumberjack.

Self-Sabotaging Friends

It's heartbreaking watching somebody you care about self-sabotage but witnessing it today gave me an inkling of the pain I've caused in others as I was the self-appointed Prince of Self-Destruction for decades. Picking up the pieces is difficult when you are the one who keeps shattering the glass. But I have picked up the pieces, and I'm always finding more shards to assemble. I'm a different man, different person. However, I can't save anybody, even if they're making the same mistakes I made for the same reasons. Take care, my friend. Know that I want the very best for you, and I want to be with you but not if you are going to be the person I once was. Love, Ezekiel Tyrus.

Cary Grant said, "...

Carey Grant said, "Making love is the best exercise there is," and he might've been onto something. My clothes are fitting me better than they did yesterday and that never happens when you had Italian the night before

Alcohol

If a woman treated me as badly as alcohol does, I'd never return her phone calls, or emails and I'd walk across the street to avoid her.

To be a better person ...

Truthfully, I write to be a better person. Fortunately, with my character faults and transgressions, I've got plenty of material.

Immeasurable Rejection

“Keep writing and always believe in yourself regardless of the immeasurable rejection and disappointment you experience in life, and the rejection and disappointment really is immeasurable but the joy can be pretty incalculable, too.”

My 40th Review on Amazon.

My 40th Review of Eli,Ely just came out on Amazon. 4 Stars -cool. I will take it. The character of Eli is NOT meant to be a role model. And I've always said the book isn't for everybody, no book is, but enough people will LOVE or LIkE IT that it should be bought and read by everybody.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This review is from: Eli, Ely (Paperback)
I was as obsessed with reading it as the protagonist was obsessive. That tells me the writing is captivating, a page-turner and good, even if I didn't like some of what the protagonist was doing, which is just my personal bent. I would recommend this based on the friend or audience. A riveting read. Looking forward to more from Ezekiel.

A Mundane Night in North Beach

Been my usual wound-up self lately though I've gotten some writing done w/ a coherent outline.

Went to the gym tonight on Bay St and worked out like a convict, then went for long walk along Fisherman's Wharf which was nice and relaxing.

At home, I put on a pair of jeans and went downstairs to Viene' Viene' and drank Vodka/Soda's with a Chinese-American bookie named Montana.

We discussed politics and sports till 1 AM.

He's a little old guy and charming enough but also strangely intimidating. You can't help but feel that if you piss him off or avoid paying back a debt, you will get 'dealt' with and it wouldn't be pretty.

Fascinating character. I will write about him some day for a future book, that's a promise..

Went to Sam's Burgers & Pizza on Broadway. It's been their since 1966 and their burgers are damn good. Got a cheese burger to go. Bought a diet coke at the vending machine in front of the police station on Vellejo. Just ate the burger and drank the Diet Coke, too. A perfect late night dinner.

Ready for bed now after some reading and music listening.

I hope when I am elderly, I can vividly recall the pleasures of a mundane night like tonight.

Living in San Francisco and North Beach certainly helps.

Another 5 Star Review on Amazon

Delighted and humbled and excited to receive this most recent 5 Star review on Amazon. 'To Kill A Mockingbird' -wow. (Gulp.) At least Truman Capote can't claim he wrote my book. Tho I wish I wrote 'In Cold Blood.'

5.0 out of 5 stars Fulfilled purpose!, February 26, 2014

This review is from: Eli, Ely (Paperback)

A great book will draw the reader in as a participant on some level. Anyone who has read To Kill A Mockingbird wasn't observing the lives of the Finch family, they were part of it. I found myself a part of Eli, Ely as a friend who comes across Eli in a bar 20 years after first meeting him and as I "listen" to (read) his story, and in my mind I get ready to tell him mine. The great irony being that while his introspection has led him to some regrets/disappointment on experimenting with life at all levels, and mine being a more conventional life of steady job, early marriage, kids, and a haunting regret of missing with greater exploration with life, I feel the character and I can now only look forward with yes, some disappointment in what was or wasn't done, but now it is time to say FU to the past and move forward. One never knows what a book will mean as one reads it, but as you read Eli, Ely you will find some yourself a participant in the story and well as discovering a truth(s) about yourself. Well done, Mr. Tyrus!
