Malabar, FL Ezekiel Tyrus
In around 2005, or 2006, I lived in the town of Malabar, FL and rather enjoyed it. While there, I dated a sweet, young hot brunette named Angie, a bartender at the only bar in town. One day, she invited me to a Sunday block party. It was fun. There was bar-b-que, beer, music, a football being thrown around, lots of good people and while there, a little old lady put her hand on Angie’s leg and said, “If I were a young woman like you, my ass would already be green with grass stains by now.”

Grandma Moses
“I look back on my life like a good hard day’s work. I am done and I am satisfied with it.”

Grandma Moses at age 101.
(How many of us are going to be able to say that? Not many, I’m afraid. Not many.)

Been my usual wound-up self lately though I’ve gotten some writing done w/ a coherent outline.
Went to the gym tonight on Bay St and worked out like a convict, then went for long walk along Fisherman’s Wharf which was nice and relaxing.
At home, I put on a pair of jeans and went downstairs to Viene’ Viene’ and drank Vodka/Soda’s with a Chinese-American bookie named Montana.
We discussed politics and sports till 1 AM.
He’s a little old guy and charming enough but also strangely intimidating. You can’t help but feel that if you piss him off or avoid paying back a debt, you will get ‘dealt’ with and it wouldn’t be pretty.
Fascinating character. I will write about him some day for a future book, that’s a promise..
Went to Sam’s Burgers & Pizza on Broadway. It’s been their since 1966 and their burgers are damn good. Got a cheese burger to go. Bought a diet coke at the vending machine in front of the police station on Vellejo. Just ate the burger and drank the Diet Coke, too. A perfect late night dinner.
Ready for bed now after some reading and music listening.
I hope when I am elderly, I can vividly recall the pleasures of a mundane night like tonight.
Living in San Francisco and North Beach certainly helps.

Running Errands ...
“Running errands this AM, making eye contact with a young Mom sans wedding ring but with a little boy in tow. They had the same face. She smiled, we chatted, I complimented her and flirted a little bit. She smiled again and laughed a little. I look down and that kid, about 8 or 9, was giving me the angriest, most sullen face ever. Pretty much the same exact face I use to give to creepy older guys that use to flirt with my Mom when I was a kid.”

Reading an old journal entry ...
Reading an old journal entry from 2008:
"Much of life is about rejection. I could always handle rejection. It never bothered nor phased me. I always kept on moving after being rejected. However, the open hostility I experienced whenever I excelled at something, that I couldn't handle, that I was unprepared for, was unaware it would even exist. The unprovoked hostility shocked and disturbed me. I blamed myself for their resentment and almost let it destroy my life. The actions and intentions of bastards, rivals, fake friends and loved-ones who thought their jobs were to invalidate me, take away the pleasure and recognition I was to get for a job well-done devastated me and led to a life of self-sabotage. Interesting, it was never a fear of rejection that bothered me as much as fear of the hostility I'd receive for succeeding that has always kept me pissing on one opportunity to the next."
That's interesting because today I try to surround myself with positive people who are only happy for others when they do well and whenever somebody says something to me that's invalidating, I call them out on it and depending on their behavior from that moment forward, I will cut them from my life and never speak to them again forgetting their names within minutes as my meditative mind as trained itself to do.
Everybody needs to keep a journal. The insight you develop from them will change your life for the better.
