OW! My brains hurt!

I don’t get it. I really don’t.

Looking at my sales ranks it would seem that selling copies of the books lowers my rank and not selling them raises it.

No I don’t mean my numbers get closer to 1 in the former, and further in the latter … I mean my chart-toppingness decreased with sales and increased without them.

I wish I were kidding, but one example involved going down several ranks after selling four copies in five and a half hours. Not bad, actually, but has been better. I wouldn’t ha...

Now & Forever ABCs (Joe)

Josef Svenson
26 October 1985
Agnostic

Born Joséphine Svenson, Joe never much went in for girlish things.

By the time he started school he preferred to be called a boy, and to be called Joséphe.

At the time he started puberty Joe had, in every way he could, shed his feminine form, except features that he inherited from his maternal grandfather, which included a somewhat effeminate face – a genetic legacy that irked him. When puberty actually started to turn Joe’s body against him, he became rapidl...

Now & Forever ABCs (Mlle Jeanette)

Mademoiselle Jeanette Louise Marie Deveraux née Olivier
22 June 1964
Roman Catholic

Mademoiselle Jeanette, as she insists her students call her, is a Parisian ballerina who studied at L’École de Danse de l’Opéra de Paris and performed with various ballet companies including the Opéra National de Paris until after the birth of her second child when she elected to begin teaching instead.

In the late nineties Gabriel, her husband, was offered a promotion that caused the family to locate to Tacoma. U...

Now & Forever ABCs (Janet)

Janet Naomi Ramos
15 June 1994
Unitarian Universalist

Janet is a quiet, brusque young woman who generally knows what she wants and does it or gets it. She is at the top of her class in grades, she is an accomplished pianist, practices gymnastics, and competitively figure skates.

Her tastes in clothes, music, books, and art tend to leave most people rather fazed — she doesn’t tend to strike anyone who’s heard her practising Mozart and Bach, or discussing Beethoven’s symphonies at any length, as th...

Now & Forever ABCs (Josie)

Josette Rachel Correa
11 October 1995
Roman Catholic

Josie is Mike’s older sister and often mistaken for his twin since the two’s birthdays place them in the same grade. The two do get along fairly well, and are reasonably close, though there is a fair amount of fighting, disagreement, and rivalry between them.

Josie became a fast and dear friend of Allison’s almost the moment they met out of a seemingly inexhaustible supply of shared interests, and is Zach’s not-exactly girlfriend. They started...

An unusal FAQ

I can’t make sense out of how to start a discussion board on Goodreads … and I’m not especially fond of the site, in any event, so would rather avoid spending a lot of time dealing with it. BuddyPress gives my migraines — it’s right out.

So I decided that, rather than wear out my computer’s clipboard copying and pasting any emailed queries that come in, or compiling posted comments, onto some static page I’d just make a page where the comments were a self managed FAQ and discussion forum. Seem...

Now & Forever ABCs (Jake)

Well, it would seem I have my first letter that needs skipping, I.

But that’s okay, because historically there is no such thing as a J; all words like Juno, Julius, Jupiter, etc were Iuno, Iulius, and Iupiter in Latin. Therefore I’mnot skipping I, I’m merely putting a funny little tail on it. QED.

I’m not sure I actually have as many Js as I’d though I did. But I will be stretching them between today and — depending if I take another break tomorrow and Tuesday — Tomorrow or Wednesday.

Enjoy ye n...

Now & Forever ABCs (Glade Falls, CO)

Glade Falls, Colorado, USA
Founded 1863

A small, 800 population town outside of Estes Park, Colorado to the north and east.

The Rocky Mountain National Park surrounds the town, and much of it is even within the park itself, and is the entire economy of the town; the populous mostly relies on tourism in the form of trail rides, camping and fishing supplies, curios and souvenirs shops, and — as with many small towns — a ‘quaint downtown’ comprised of antique stores, diners, restaurants, and simila...
